We’re gonna use a trade thread to bicker about last season?

Where do you think Joe was at the deadline last year? Do you think he was vacationing in the Bahamas and had no input or idea what CMac was doing? C'mon man, just because CMac was promoted doesn't mean Joe completely left the building. He was at least involved in a "what do you think" capacity and provided his input if nothing else.
I honestly believe Joe was trying to let CMac run the team with little interference. Let him make his choices since he is the GM, and be there as a resource if CMac needed help.

Now I'm getting the feeling that Sakic is back to being more involved, since last year was a not a great showing by CMac.

There is literally not a single shred of evidence out there to support this, other than some weird delusion of grandeur...

So why go for it this year then? It's not like Byram or Manson found the magical healing fountain this summer? Landy is still out this year?

The fact is they flushed career years from Rants and MacK, and however you try to justify it during a contention window isn't a good excuse. It's every bit as bad as the year before where we bailed on the season when we decided that Nemeth and Soda were the deadline adds.

I'm willing to let CMac redeem himself, but let's not pretend the west wasn't wide open this year
Yes they did, Byram, Nuke, Manson, Makar, Lekhy, even RyJo, all of them will begin the season rejuvenated and healthy, huge difference

You legitimately believe that the team makes choices based on one individual?

These are team decisions. The GMs speak with their president, the pro scouts, amateur scouts, analytics department. They get suggestions for players, speak to GMs about prices, then speak with their team of consultants and experts on which deal is best.

CMac isn’t sitting in his office making decisions by himself.

Then how come we are seeing a more similar approach this offseason to what Sakic did his last few years. As compared to CMac's sit back and ignore every problem approach of last offseason?

We get it! Stating your gut feeling and opinion over and over doesn't change anything.

Enjoy the good and entertaining things happening, and all the guessing we get to do with one less player to negotiate with and more draft assets to lure teams with decent scouting departments into favorable trades for the now.

Were Byram, Nuke, Manson, and Makar not healthy to start last season? Byram and Manson especially have a lot to prove that they can stay healthy

Nope, but the GM typically is the final decision.
