Surprised at the return. Not just the value, but the items we got. After trading away one of our only bottom sixers under contract, I'm surprised we didn't get one back. More moves have to be coming, because our bottom six is now basically LOC, Meyers, and a bunch of nothing.

We don't know, and couldn't know anything of the sort, but you can create any fan fiction you want to make it more enjoyable for you. I'm just glad you're happy.
It's fairly obvious. There are completely different approaches going on. One that matches the aggressive Sakic trading nature. And one that was sit back and do barely anything.

Sakic was always aggressive in the trade market it showed over his time as the "official" GM.

Then last year CMac came and we all of a sudden weren't aggressive in the trade market. And weren't aggressive at all.

Now all of a sudden we are aggressive in the trade market again. Screams Sakic. I can be very certain Sakic wasn't thrilled with how CMac handled a Cup winner that was given to him last year. I can assure you Sakic is much more involved this year. It's already showing.

What does it mean? You want the Avs to use the picks?
Who at those positions are going to help us win the cup in the next 3 years? Who do you think the Avs would draft that would even be on the roster in 3 years? Just makes sense to let some other team that can draft make the picks for us 🤣

No! I want to use them in a trade too, it was more just the negative connotation your original post had almost immediately after the trade. Value wise, this was a fantastic trade IMO.

I'm not going to say one way or another, but maybe MacK and Makar were like WTF? mate in their end of year internal interviews?

Wash GM came out publicly saying he is not available.
Yeah, probably just wishful thinking on my part, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. He’s 29 and in the last year of his deal.

The Caps aren’t gonna be contenders for a long while, and I doubt Wilson wants to stick around for mediocrity under the pass-it-to-Ovie hockey style until the about to be 38-year-old Ovi sets the record and they start their complete tear down/rebuild.

The GM can say whatever he wants, but it would make sense for them to move on while they can still get good value for him.

Sakic being aggressive is absolutely revisionist history by you here. Why do you think he got the nick and Sleepy Joe?

He got more aggressive in later years but he never an aggressive GM. The year they won a cup was the first year he ever traded a first at a deadline. That's not the resume of an aggressive GM.

It worked for him either way so I'm not complaining but let's not change history here so we can keep saying cmac sucks.

You're kidding yourself if you think CMac is behind all this. Sakic was trying to step back last year and let CMac do his thing. And it was extremely timid, very little of anything.

It's very clear Sakic is not sitting back this year. And isn't going to let CMac destroy what he built.

Bro, you have absolutely no idea who's orchestrating these trades. Just because CMac had a "down year" in your eye or sat on his hands, doesn't mean he's not making up for it now. Not to mention, you're giving Sakic all the credit for past trades too and acting like CMac had nothing to do with those either...we know for a fact he was the one pulling the strings in the 3-team Dutchy trade. Just seems a bit short sighted and unfair to CMac just because you lot decided to write him off already.

Lol, what are you talking about. We've been harping on Sakic for years for being passive and waiting for the perfect trade. Sakic aggressive?! You need a recalibration bud!

I don't want to beat this horse, but I believe last year's lack of activity was more complex than that. First, we don't know what the actual market looked like for us, and you can't just look at other trades that were made and say "we could have had him!" because we just don't know. We had lots of injuries and I really believe the team thought Landy might have been back for the playoffs. I also think that loyalty played a part. The team seems very loyal to their players, and I think they believed in what they had, which was a lot of recent champions, and thought they could somehow bring it home again with those guys. If that played a part, I get that.

Anyway, it sure as hell seemed like a ton of changes were coming after last year's agonizing season and now we know we're loaded for bear. Not Ethan, though.

Hoping there's something cooking with those picks and it's not just a case where they had to get as much value as they could because Newhook wanted more on the new contract than the Avs were willing to give him (both could be true). Though if it was the latter it's not bad value. The fact that they are both 2023 picks makes me think something is already in the works though, I'd be surprised if they make selections with those picks.

I like the Avs making a lot of moves now, during the off-season, instead of waiting for the trade deadline.

It’s obvious that team has to retool the lineup completely in order to compete. There is no time to waste. Last year was a wasted year mainly because the lack of depth and with all the injuries.

It looks like the Avs have a plan, RyJo, now Newhook, of course these assets will be used to grab other players, I really like it a lot !

They either have some plates in the air or will be trying to soon. We're not the Red Wings.
