What's hilarious to see unfold on here is certain people asking for CMac's head because of the TDL last year and now certain people who like these moves acting like NOW it's Sakic and him turning things around.

I was happy when Colorado drafted Newhook, and he seems like a really good person. Hopefully he has a good career in Montreal.
But personally, this trade doesn't shock me and I predicted it could happen yesterday. Newhook wasn't able to stick in the Avalanche's top-6, or at the center position. That left the team with a soft, 30ish point bottom-6 winger with questionable two-way play and skating ability.
For all the talk leading up to last week about a status quo off-season, with some believing Colorado would once again turn to Newhook as the 2C moving forward... it is clear management has VERY different plans.

So true, this will get spun as terrible by some.
In reality we got two quality picks for a guy that had really no spot.
Hopefully Newhook can gain some traction with more mins and being closer to home.
For the Avs I hope they are using these picks to add a now player that can help us win.

What’s the best player the Avs could realistically get if they combined 27, 31, and 37? Maybe even add next year’s 1st.
Who at those positions are going to help us win the cup in the next 3 years? Who do you think the Avs would draft that would even be on the roster in 3 years? Just makes sense to let some other team that can draft make the picks for us

If it's a centre, it is probably for Laughton which seems to be around that level of value (not all the picks though).
You're kidding yourself if you think CMac is behind all this. Sakic was trying to step back last year and let CMac do his thing. And it was extremely timid, very little of anything.
It's very clear Sakic is not sitting back this year. And isn't going to let CMac destroy what he built.

I just saw an article that referenced GFBs season ending knee injury and it described him as "hard hitting." He's got decent size, not a bad thing to have on the Eagles and for callups. New Englund?

I'm thinking two of those 3 picks get moved, be it for a player or to pick up more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, etc to shore up the system.

The writing was on the wall this year in the playoffs. The fact that Lars Eller and Matt Nieto were promoted to the 2nd line when the team was starved for offence confirmed what the coaching staff thought of him.
