Yeah I do and I like K'Andre a lot---but K'Andre is not coming off a great year and is still working on learning his position. Sanderson is the best skating defenseman in the draft and a shutdown monster with a bit of an edge. I could easily see him turning into the next Slavin only more physical and really we don't need what Drysdale brings that much--another smallish offensive oriented RD--even if we move DeAngelo--we still have Fox and Lundkvist had a fantastic year in the SHL last year. Sanderson would bring way more of what the team really needs.

So, here's the thing then. If you like Sanderson that much, would you consider dealing:

Lafreniere

for

Byfield/Stutzle
Sanderson

I mean, if Sanderson ends up a Ryan Suter and Byfield a Barkov or Stutzle a Marner--that's a sweet haul for a LW--even an elite (Pastrnak level one).

Still dont think i make the trade. We have enough assets where we can draft Laf and shore up other areas of weaknesses using those assets.

Lol why are there so many fans/trolls from other teams trying to trade the 1OA?

It's just a crazy situation this year, don't you think? The Rangers were never supposed to have this pick--and since they're loaded with young, skilled, wingers--it's fun to speculate if they could parlay that pick into multiple, elite pieces, that's all. That's what fans do. I mean, let's be honest though, the chances of the Rangers doing it is like 1% lol

But, the problem is, they want trade the best of that bunch in Lafreniere.

Well, yeah. But it would be like trading one elite stud for two great studs. Again, just fun to speculate. Rangers would never consider unless a team like Ottawa were to do something outlandish... say Tkachuk, 3rd overall and 22nd overall or something.

I woke up and we still have the #1 overall pick.

I’ve had a smile/smirk plastered on my face for 13 straight hours now.

Some more quotes on Laf, courtesy of Mynhldraft

Ryan Kennedy - The Hockey News - May 11th: "Lafreniere ripped up the ‘Q’ and fought through injury to win MVP honors at the world juniors, not to mention a gold medal with Canada. His skill, drive and edge make him an elite talent."

Tony Wolak - The Hockey Writers - May 11th: "Lafrenière’s skating is already explosive, he protects the puck and shoots very well, and has elite vision to boot. Simply put, Lafrenière is a cornerstone player that will make an immediate impact."

NHL Central Scouting analysis - NHL.com - Apr. 3rd: "Lafreniere offers high-end puck skills and vision to create plays, has an impressive compete level every time he's on the ice, and elevates his game in pressure situations while demonstrating leadership skills."

Cam Robinson - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 1st: "A premier, point-producing machine of a forward. Extremely dangerous in one-on-one situations. Scores in a variety of ways. Brings the noise. Will be one of the rare wingers who will dictate everything."

Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com - Mar. 20th: "He led all players in the Canadian Hockey League (QMJHL, Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League) with 2.15 points per game, but as skilled and talented as Lafreniere is, the thing that makes him even more impressive is his relentlessness and willingness to play a hard game and finish checks."

Mike G. Morreale - NHL.com - Mar. 6th: "As skilled and talented as Lafreniere is, the thing that makes him even more impressive is his relentlessness and willingness to play a hard game and finish checks given an opportunity."

Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Feb. 5th: "Physicality has emerged as yet another top-notch element in his already full tool box."

Tony Ferrari - Dobber Prospects - Jan. 29th: "He understands the game at a level that very few players do and his ability to convert on what he sees is what makes him special. The best description of his playing style is “Elite Skilled-Grinder.”"

Again, we're talking about an elite-level player, but what gives him the extra gear is his compete level, which is what makes him the player who is the center of your core. He will be the next captain.

Laf and Kakko will be getting top 6 minutes

I'd rather have 3 strong lines, leave strome and fast with Panarin, plus it would give Laf some sheltered minutes, I don't see them throwing him into the top 6 right away. I could see a Fast(if he is still here) and Kakko swap which would give Laf some defensive help.
Think about our two pp units!! Mind blown.

Zib Panarin Kakko Kreider D'Angelo
Laf Strome Chytil Buch Fox

it would be career suicide to trade the 1oa pick for Gorton unless there is some medical condition that appears, it's not happening, especially with a guy like Laf who competes like Fast, has a high skill level, and can play a physical game. You never let that walk away....plus he's Canadian ;)

I think Laf can honestly step right into Mika or Panarins line and hit 55+ points. He is that good. There is also the chance Strome or Fast might not be on the team too.We just dont know what rabbits Gorton can pull out of his magic hat to help shore up the teams glaring weaknesses.

Mikas line it is then!

Him and Kreider play the same position, its less of an issue because Kreider can switch sides which is what I feel will happen at some point, though imo I still wanna see them try Kreider at center, we need a big bodied 2c, he is already good at face-offs, has great speed and is a smart player. It would open that spot up for Laf if it worked and make Strome expendable. Kreider Panarin Kakko would be a nice 2nd line if it worked.

Maybe I have to watch it again. He was kind of all over the place. But it has to do with getting a C, right?

the question was does this force him to go out and get a center, basically asking if its time to go for it...JG certainly didn't say no and said that it was a valid question but IMO his answer was mostly rambling because he wants to say 'i'm not telling you my plans' but realizes that the reporter has to ask the question and didn't want to be rude. my main takeaway is that JG isn't blind and knows that C depth needs to be improved.

Lafreniere makes several players on this team expendable now and managing the cap very tricky. Assume that both he and Kakko are scoring well by 20. Gorton has to give both those long term, pay you sooner than later deals to save a few million on the cap. Gorton usually doesn't pay young players that haven't broken out yet higher salaries but he will have to do that now to manage the cap. Also, there can be no chances taken on players long term. TDA will surely be moved now. Rangers can't afford to hope he improves defensively at his price tag. No signing of Strome at the price he will want. Buchnevich has to be moved. You can't hope he finally figures it out. These are the types of moves that must be made when you now have what you hope will be close to three, max contract forwards and maybe 4 with Zibanejad. The top two lines will be salary heavy and the bottom 6 must be high IQ, limited offensive players who rarely ever make defensive mistakes. The defense must be more stay at home, physical, smart defensive defenseman and maybe only 2 guys that are high level, puck movers. The team must make the transition to a defensive team that relies on the great individual talents to make plays to win playoff type games. TDA must be moved and Fox must be given a 7 year, 31.5 extension now. Lindgren a 6 year, 24 million extension. Gorton must now be aggressive with moves based on what he think these players will do long term. If he waits on Fox, he very well might be asking 7 to 8 million a season in 2 years. I also would try to move a player to get an extra first rounder in the year of the expansion draft to deal to the expansion team to get them to take a player of your chosing. A player like Fast who is elite defensively now has to be signed as he is what the bottom 6 on this team is going to need.

Just woke up with a crazy idea. We trade for the #2 pick and get Lafraniere and Byfield. We need a 2c and have a second first rounder and a ton of prospects for a potential trade. Go for it Gorts!
