If we swap Miller for a Center what would be realistic to get back?

And Quinn can make this PP even more dangerous now
Kreider, Zib, Kakko, Buch, DeAngelo
Panarian, Strome, Laf, Chytil, Fox

Panarin and Zib banging one timers from the left......Kakko and Laf sneaking in on the right...Kreider and Chytil big bodies in front....Tony and Fox running shyt. Equal R/L and ~equal PP time.

This. There are good pieces but little cohesion. Some guys from the previous generation. A few guys that might start shape a dynasty. I get the feeling we’ll be a playoff team for the next five years (contracts will be our biggest challenge). Maybe we’ll go to the conference finals once. Hard to see beyond that.

I think that's how most teams get built in a lot of ways...you rarely have a team that's just like "ok here's everyone and they're gonna grow up together and all be developed and ready at the same tiem"

it's a mix of new players, older players, vets, etc. The trick is to get the right pieces into the right places at the right times. The Rangers have an intriguing mix but they have a year or two to really fill the major holes sufficiently in order to take full advantage of Zibby and Panarin's (and Kreider's) best years while also allowing for their hopeful young stars like Kakko, Fox, hopefully Laf, to develop enough to contribute on a consistent basis. Then you hope you're a contender. Then you hope as the older guys decline, the younger stars are picking up the slack, and you're filling the holes with more new draft picks etc.

So, big thing in my mind is just how the Rangers fill some of the bigger holes they have and that includes a functional fourth line

But the Hawks were a dynasty with no #2 center.

If Panarin is the 2LW and shows up to play, we're fine. I call this the Patrick Kane game plan.

Panarin made Strome look like a legitimate Top-6 option this year. Give me a 2C with a bit more grit and that line looks a lot deadlier. Especially once Kakko really gets comfortable.

I'd like to see Panarin with a guy like Mikael Granlund...the talent and pedigree, just not the consistency.

We moved up BIG in the draft last year, and this year we moved up EVEN BIGGER. The series of events that has to occur for this to happen is mind boggling. This is like concrete cup contending blueprint in the post lockout era. It’s finally happening. Still in shock!!!

Yeah I think following this model is really the most realistic way to go about it.

Just overwhelm the other team with depth up and down the lineup. Fox might be our Keith, and we got the goalie.

@GeorgeKaplan remember what I said about Chicago'ing it? lmao.
I've still got some concerns with age gaps and what those sorts of contracts could mean, but with a player of this caliber I feel a bit better

Boo Nieves is an AHL hockey player why would he be in the top 6?

He would not except if there was exceptional chemistry which I wanted them to try, b'c they fit the model:
driver of play -- facilitator -- finisher

with LaF now, that point is moot.
Kreider is still the driver,
while Zib can contribute additionally he fits as facilitator
and LaF is a talented scorer/finisher.

Barring injury, the Nieves experiment is over NOW, but it is over b'c
LaF should play on THAT line, and
value of LaF as finisher with Zib as facilitator
is way greater than
Zib as facilitator with Nieves as facilitator and LaF as sniper elsewhere.

However, betw. then and now, there is zero reason for them not to have tried it.

Hischier/Hughes vs Kakko/Lafreniere

THE ULTIMATE RIVALRY

Dont take this from me right now its all I have to cling to sanity and not the Tito's handle. its like at the rinks when the other team gets a guy you knows good, makes the game more exciting

Athletic scouting report on Lafreniere on 20-80 scale:

Puck Skills: 70
Hockey Sense: 65
Competitiveness: 60
Shot: 60
Skating: 55

is that good?

Doesn’t look generational with those numbers. Is that right now or what they project him to be?

Yeah but they didn't really turn the corner until Kane arrived.

If our coach can't get it done, they'll hire someone who can. That isn't a problem we need to worry about.

Make no mistake about it now, Quinn is on the hot seat beginning this season. This is the last draft for building this team. Gorton's begins building around the quality pieces in place, and that likely starts with targeting the right LD to play next to Trouba, relegating Staal to the hinterlands, and using some the pieces in the pipeline if need be. Quinn has to get this team into the playoffs, or he becomes the developmental coach that turns it over to the coach that can get this team to the next level.
