i posted this elsewhere, adding here because only some us lived thru the Lindros saga
Look at the scope of that haul!
(5 firsts (1 a proven D) , a 2d (a talented beast*) and also all-star D, and G, in their prime

a Buffalo deal starts something like w
8OA, Cozzens and another 1st.
And a player like Pekar.
And Johnson or Samuelsson.
And a little more, like 2d.
A Lindros type deal.
Yes, its harsh.
It probably doesn't happen.

But NYR has no incentive to move 1OA unless overwhelmed.
A "hockey deal" isn't what this would be.

This only happens if a franchise, desperate for change, is willing to go all in, for Lafreniere, because they see him as a 'game changer' of their fortunes.

That don't come cheap.
It probably doesn't happen.
But it wont happen for a package a fan decides seems 'fair'
In this situation, 'pay to play' means overpay, and it hurts

some guys reading this will mock me,
but i lived through the Lindros auction
what i outline above is significantly less
AND NYR not under pressure to act
"1992-Jun-30 Traded from Quebec Nordiques to Philadelphia Flyers for

Not to be a downer but does it worry anyone that both Kakko and Lafreniere have skating as their weakness in a league that's predicated on speed?

Lafreniere's skating issue is that he has a tendency to not stop on a dime. He takes wider turns. He's fine with his straight ahead skating. We're talking about a potential franchise player, the likes of which, this franchise has never drafted in my lifetime.

kakko's straight line speed is a weakness (although that is most fixable) but his agility and ability to turn on a dime is tremendous, especially for a kid that will have a power forward body.

I wouldn't categorize the Blues or the Caps (the last 2 teams to win) as fast teams.

Pens were, Hawks were really the perfect blend, Kings were not fast at all.

You can win with speed, but we've seen really fast, super talented teams that get owned along the walls fall short in the playoffs. Tampa last season is a prime example of that. Toronto is crazy fast and talented upfront, they just got outed by a much slower CBJ team.

He would not except if there was exceptional chemistry which I wanted them to try, b'c they fit the model:
driver of play -- facilitator -- finisher

with LaF now, that point is moot.
Kreider is still the driver,
while Zib can contribute additionally he fits as facilitator
and LaF is a talented scorer/finisher.

Barring injury, the Nieves experiment is over NOW, but it is over b'c
LaF should play on THAT line, and
value of LaF as finisher with Zib as facilitator
is way greater than
Zib as facilitator with Nieves as facilitator and LaF as sniper elsewhere.

However, betw. then and now, there is zero reason for them not to have tried it.
“The Nieves Experiment” LMAO

Good ?.
don't see that Kakko is uncoordinated like Lias, so no.
Also if he has less responsibility on W, that will help a bit.

LaF can't say, but while I don't see superior, let alone elite speed, I don't see him not able to keep up w/Zib or Kreider at slower gear.

They had some f*** wad contracts too (Campbell, Huet, etc.)

Through sheer luck and some smart trades, Gorton has aced the construction of the upper part of the roster. The hard part is more than over.
In keeping with that model, hopefully they don't get too trade happy now and have some enticing assets to dangle to get rid of some contracts in a few years

No thanks

I'm in the "f*** it" mindset that pretty much thinks with all the rotten luck, poor management, and other shit we've endured, that the fans do kind of deserve this.

Some people talk about a conspiracy. This damn franchise has one championship in the last 80 years.

You know what? Yeah, gimme the Chicago treatment. Let's be that franchise in the 2020s. Which is what management was aiming for prior to tonight anyway.
Agreed. Not feeling guilty in the slightest. This will be the last time we draft this high in probably another 50 years. I hate tanking and unfortunately there really is no perfect system. Imagine if the Penguins, Oilers or even Devils won it again this year?

Big on speed as anyone on here but With Kakko's strength and size not really and with Laf's competitiveness and vision not really. Surround them with guys who can skate like Mika, Kreider and others.

Were talking about teenagers here. Nobody comes into the league fully developed. This team is set up to compete in a few years. Best case scenario is happening right now.

Prime Keith, Seabrook and Hjalmarsson well exceeded our group’s collective ceiling, though, and they had Toews and Hoss as excellent two-way forwards as well.

Keith was a 2nd rounder and Hjamarsson was a 4th rounder. How can you cap the ceiling for rookie Adam Fox, and guys like Miller and Lundkvist who haven't even played a game in the NHL? Neither of those guys was what they became at this point in their career.
