kzb should be playing 20-25 mins a night...every night.

its kinda idiotic at this point...but tbh, im a broken record right now with my AV hate...reading anything from me on this point is like reading anything from ODC on Nash, Buch, McIlrath, etc

AV's use of his roster is mind numbing at times so I can understand the hate. What is so hard about playing your best players appropriate minutes and sitting players that don't deserve to play? The 6 game winning streak took a lot of the heat off him unfortunately. This is still the same guy who insisted on playing Girardi on 1st D pair, still the same guy who fell in love with Glass, still the same guy that had Stall, Holden, or Girardi defending late in what 3 playoff games last year. He just isn't going to change and will continue to misuse his roster and this year this is no room for error in the tightly packed metro.

I think what is wrong is not distributing the minutes to the best and most productive players more evenly through the game. Don't wait until the middle of the third to lean harder on your best. Use them if they are healthy and clicking. Stupid not to. They are not old creaky guys who need to be saved for the playoffs.

The league has even started to change this way. There’s lots of forwards getting massive minutes this year.

Barkov just had a 29 min game. Kopitar averaging in the low 20s. McDavid there. More than barkov basically all the top panthers get huge ice time. Sabres do it with Kane/Eichel. Jets do it with their top two lines. Canadiens do it with Pacioretty. Crosby always gets a ton of minutes. Bruins Bergeron line is always there. Zetterberg is up there and he’s an older guy. Seguin/Benn 20 mins.

Absolutely no reason that the zibanejad line should be getting 14-15 mins basically ever. Should be a 20-22 min/game line and just cut the ice time of the third and fourth lines.

But AV is a terrible coach and this is what he does so no surprise here. Not sure why “playing your best players” is such a complex strategy but it apparently is. I’ve said it before he coaches like it’s a youth league team and he needs to let everyone play roughly the same.

Ah yes, excellent way to evaluate performance as a whole this season, which is what you did. By watching 4 goal against highlights.

Don’t you see the flaws in that?

It’s not that flawed for a particular game. Obviously you can’t get a perfect evaluation but just because he made some great saves doesn’t make it excusable to allow some awful goals like the first one. They’re independent events.

Definitely don't need to burn them out, just use our first line as our first line.

Pretty simple stuff.

And thats the problem here. Zibanejad, Kreider and Buchnevich are 2nd, 6th and 7th in terms of forwards TOI. Thats not good enough, thats on the coach. There is no reason Zibanejad shouldn't be first, and the other guys shouldn't be top 4, along with Miller.

Not much of a hot take but...

I know physicality isn't high on the list of today's Corsi generation, but Staal's defense on the 4th goal was shameful. If you're going to be a slow lanky defender in today's NHL you have to clear the crease. You can't give an ex teammate a loving embrace while he has 2 extra chances to put the puck away on the goal mouth.

A lot of our blueliners can be called out today. McDonagh with a bad giveaway, Holden had bad man-marking, Kampfer was finally put under pressure. This blueline is still absolutely a work in progress.

Which is why my point was directed towards him using that method to make a point about Hank’s play all season, which is what he did.

It definitely is. For as much as people were happy with Staal, he looks more and more the guy who sucked the past few seasons. And Kampfer is not an NHL defenseman. Holden is ok with McDonagh, and Skjei and Shattenkirk have been OK, but still have their struggles. I also agree that we are really soft, we seem to lose a ton of 50/50 pucks, lose alot of net-front battles, and in the offensive zone the lack of cycling the puck and wearing down opposing defenses hurts.

I can see it now:

This team will grind out JUST enough wins this year to a) save this shitty coach his job, b) convince the FO that they have a chance and thus deal assets for rentals and c) play themselves out of a meaningful pick in the next draft (assuming that is that they still have their 1st rounder when it matters).

A year of outright mediocrity. Maybe they'll sneak in to the post-season, and then get dumped in the 1st round. Yay. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

Yup... I can definitely see this happening. This team has had excellent early season win streaks before under AV. It doesn't hid the fact
That again and again when his system doesn't work... no plan B, but lose.

But hey, as long as the Rangers and msg get some playoff $$$ all is well with this org.

Another 0 pts. game by Miller - AV is good to kill hot players this season, and hopefully some changes after this loss.

The team clearly played like ****, but Lundqvist is just not cutting it anymore and our good backups are in Edmonton and Arizona. We're not going to score 4 every game, hell we scored 3 today. Once again, awful play, 43 shots on goal by Chicago. But there was a time when you saw 43 shots on goal and weren't surprised if you saw a shutout. Now I'm shocked by any game Hank gives up less than 3. That's not going to cut it, we're not the 84 Oilers or even the 17 Pens.

It’s insane that Hank’s GAA is 3.04.

Should have been 4-4 game in the middle of the third. we would have likely lost anyways but really bad whistle there if one sees the 1st goal in the same way. Maybe not but still. A shit show of a game after the 1st. Bad play, bad coaching, poor officiating, inconsistent goaltending and very manic play on both sides. Of course AA gets his first career hat trick sticking it to us big time. That Forsling guy looks like a keeper. He cost them only Adam Clendening. What irony. I hope they regroup, get hot as lava and shove it down Jonnycakes throat on Friday
