Yeah, but there's little risk because your odds of winning the game being down late in the 3rd are low. Who cares if you lose by 2 or 3 instead of 1 or 2? The only thing that matters is increasing the chances of a goal

With less than a minute left, I agree.

And sure, being down 3 versus being down 2 doesn't really matter. I just knew we'd be down 6-3 almost immediately and we were, so I said something.

Being down 2 versus being down 1 is a massive difference. If the opponent scores again, it's over and all you've done is take two minutes off the clock. To me, you should have controlled possession with 30-40 seconds left before your goalie comes out down by 1.

The opponent is pretty much guaranteed a goal if they touch the puck, so you should pull the goalie in a situation where them touching the puck means the game is over anyway.

The team clearly played like ****, but Lundqvist is just not cutting it anymore and our good backups are in Edmonton and Arizona. We're not going to score 4 every game, hell we scored 3 today. Once again, awful play, 43 shots on goal by Chicago. But there was a time when you saw 43 shots on goal and weren't surprised if you saw a shutout. Now I'm shocked by any game Hank gives up less than 3. That's not going to cut it, we're not the 84 Oilers or even the 17 Pens.
It must be nice to just spew narrative.

The truth is that people are seeing what they want to see when talking about Hank being done. He's not. He has looked better this season than he did at any time last season outside of the Montreal series. As a goalie myself I pay extra attention to every goalie I see and analyze their play. I've said this a bunch but I'll say it again: his movement and technique is much tighter and much closer to vintage Hank. He's tracking the puck well, moving well and he's not losing his net like he did so often last year. Last year even in his good games he looked like he was fighting it and like he was small in his net and just off in general. This season I don't see any of that. I see Hank looking closer to his normal self than he did at any point last year. I'm not worried about him at all. Last year I was and if I was seeing more of the same this year I'd be very concerned, but I don't see that. I feel good about his game.

Well this got out of hand.. Not our defenses best game. Smith will be in next and hopefully we find a way to sit D.D. he's mediocre

Sit DD for who though? I have mostly been happy with JG's moves, but that said, it seems like our entire plan in the preseason was "Lias Andersson will be our 3C"

It was talked about in the GDT...
But how much of it is actually their fault? Kampfer shouldn't be playing 15 minutes on an NHL team for 7 straight games unless there's a serious injury problem and neither he nor Staal should be matched up against a line with Patrick Kane on it with any kind of regularity, regardless of who has last change.
They were terrible, but they weren't really put in a position where you'd expect them to succeed

So now we're back to the coach being an idiot.

Agreed there.

Snowblind didnt even watch the game. He admitted as much himself in the GDT which makes his post even more irrelevent.

I don't think it is a case of replacing personnel, even DD, but do replace Kampfer. As somebody else posted, why is he a regular game in game out? make a break back to reality and put Smith in. Surely he can skate by now, surely he is repentant enough by now to want his old job back enough to earn it. Needs that chance to earn it though. Can't do it from the pressbox.

Shattenkirk made mistakes tonight but we had 9 high-danger chances for in the game and he was on the ice for 8 of them.

He was +32 in relative expected goals in this game.

He didn't make any more mistakes than the other five defenders did. Like I said before, the Hawks had more odd-man rushes tonight that you see in an all-star game. We've been off for awhile and this team had a plan. Our coach can't adjust.

Letteri makes the most sense short term. Call him up, slide Miller to centre and put Grabner or Fast on his other wing (or both if you want to demote Vesey)

It's sad when we don't have someone who can play in D.D spot when he's crap. I mean we could put Miller back to center but he's been much better at wing. I feel like he's just getting a free pass to be mediocre

Mike, I think reason AV kept Kampfer in lineup for as long as he did was and Bob McKenzie eluded to it as well during the first intermission, was the "perfect storm" occurred. At same exact time Smith got healthy scratched, Rangers won the Vegas game.

Than they won again and again and again....you get the picture. AV simply didn't want to fix what wasn't broke or interrupt the chemistry that was developing. He knows Smith has to get back in the lineup and when he does be relevant again. I think that will start on Friday.

Chicago wanted this one more than the rangers. That was obvious. They played very poorly and sloppy. They better play with a purpose Friday. We all new AV wasn't going to make any changes during the win streak so now he has to sit Kampfer and play Smith, sit DD and move Miller to center and bring up Letteri.

Because we gave up a lot of goals and the forwards were somehow good despite being put in a terrible position, AV's comical TOI distribution at forward will go by the wayside, at least in the media.

KZB is like the best f***ing line in hockey right now and he keeps using it as a third line.

And it's not like I hate Vesey like I did say, Girardi or Glass, but he's a bottom six player. I don't know what AV sees there.

If I’m JT Miller, I’m getting fed up playing with DD and Vesey. Fast should be on his line. So should Grabner. Miller in the middle. Vesey to the 4th line.

When you have a line that's feeling it like that you need to play them. Don't burn them out but by all means give them the minutes. It shows you develop chemistry and produce you'll get more ice time. Not just you get paid a lot so you'll get ice time

Definitely don't need to burn them out, just use our first line as our first line.

Pretty simple stuff.

i do wonder how someone like Grabner or Fasth would look on the line with Hayes and Nash...I just feel like that line needs something else that Zucc just isnt a fit for.

I'd consider doing something like...
KZB
Grabner - Hayes - Nash
Fasth - Miller - Zucc
Boo, and like 2 guys not named DD or Vesey.
