Stralman is the steadiest guy on the D. I'd be thrilled if Kevin Klein was as steady as Stralsy is.

I remember a particular few were so adamant that Klein replaced Stralman after one game where he finally had more ice time than Stralman.

Joke of the boards.

I thought the defense played a really good game aside from the second period. Hank kept the pens to only 2 in the 2nd which was huge. Crosby didn't look to noticeable. Malkins ****ing scary. Fleury is not a good goalie.

Good win for the Rangers. They played well other than the second.

That said, it is only 1 game.

So many posters here are psychotic. Either we suck or are winning the Cup.

Here are a few things I picked up reading this thread:

Hank was the sole reason we won.

McDonagh was horrendous.

Refs have an agenda against the Rangers.

On top of that, the Stralman love affair has been reignited. Many wanted his strung up during the Flyer series.

Here are my thoughts:

Hank did his job. I didn't see anything spectacular, but very solid.
McDonagh was fine, other than the Stepniak goal, where he got himself caught up ice. Otherwise, I thought he was solid shutting down Sid and Geno.
Our fourth line continues to be our most valuable line.
The Zu-Brass-Poo line stepped it up, especially that overtime shift.

If we are going to win this series, we have to improve the PP. If we continue to pitch a PP shutout, we will not win the series.

If we win it all and Nash doesn't score one goal, will it be awkward when he lifts the cup? Hmmm...

Henrik played great last night.

There is an absolute need to split apart Nash and MSL. Kreider coming back does that.

I didn't say you did. If we had Fleury in our net, we lose that game. Just minding the Credit Where Credit Is Due Dept. Hank had a great road playoff game, stopped a ton of quality chances and won the game in OT. That's all.

He made 1 save in OT. You can stop now, honestly. No one that matters said anything negative about Hank.

Awkward?

I tell you what, a lot of people he has been fans of this team a long time. We have lived through 8 years of not making the POs while being the highest spending team in the league. We have lived through the 1940 chants.

You think we wouldn't enjoy this team winning a Cup because one of our most important players wasn't able to put up great stats?

Awkward LOL.

IF and obviously a major IF this were to occur, Rick Nash will play a huge role in getting us there. Irregardless of goals.

If you don't think he was instrumental in our Game 7 win and even our win yesterday, then I don't know what to tell you.

I'm not going to back the guy and say he's been great, but he has certainly helped off the score sheet.

I'm not his biggest advocate, but he's playing well. He has 2 defenders on him every shift. If Stepan could finish at ALL he would have even more assists.

Well before seeing that Malkin interfered with Hank on the 2nd goal I was pissed, but after seeing I think we got screwed. Still think the first goal was meh, but he kept us in in the second to some extend in the 3rd.

Nash will be fine. He's doing everything right but scoring. I would be more worried if he wasn't getting chances. If he can just get one like St. Louis did in Vancouver - even if it's a lucky one - his confidence and game will elevate.

Love our D, but what concerns me more is the lack of a heavy shot from the point; at the very least an unwillingness to shoot it instead of looking for the perfect pass all the time. This is crippling our power play and eliminating any chance for a tip-in or rebound goal (watch Chicago's first goal last night - Seabrook's blast from the point tipped in).

There are very few PK Subban's in the league. Most point shots do not go in because of their power, but because of a screen or deflection. If anything we need to be more accurate with the shots and get more traffic in front.

I know our games are usually quiet since tickets are just so pricey, but anyone else think the fans for the Pens are a joke?

Some of the beat writers said there were a fair amount of empty seats last night, even.

#1 Lundqvist
#2 Brassard
#3 Richards
HM: Pouliot, Staal/Stralman

McDonagh had yet another poor game. You can argue without his gaffes this isn't even in OT.

I was underwhelmed with Nash. Not nearly as good as his effort in Game 7. Still waiting for him to score a goal.

I also think it's comical Richards only has five votes. He has been one of our most consistent performers all post season, and he scored a big second goal for us, in addition to getting numerous chances. Too many people on here have an agenda against him.

Same thing for Lundqvist too. Too many people have an agenda against him. Thought Lundqvist was outstanding today and the biggest reason we won. He stood tall, made plenty of big time saves (that save with 9 seconds left in the 3rd was about as clutch as you want your goaltender to be). Great game by him. Hope he can keep that up.

Although, there are several fans on here that think he should have stopped both goals, which would have been a 35+ save shutout against the Penguins, and all I can do is shake my head at that. The expectations have gotten stupid. He has given up 2 GOALS OR LESS in 6 of his 8 starts. I'm plenty satisfied with him thus far.

*Insert comment about the subjectivity of voting, and explain that a vote given in almost all cases will be coloured by the voters total impression of a players performance and character over time.*

First vote Stralman, btw.

Pouliot, Stralman, Staal, Richards, Hank.

If they break even coming back to NY it's still a win. Not a great game all around last night but they had a great first. Need a more consistent effort, there has been too much dominating one period and looking lost for the rest of the game, resting on their dominant period laurels.

Edit: Also, LOL power play. Still upset about it.

We did squat in the 3rd. We forced Fleury to make... one tough save? Did he even need to make a tough save?

It wasn't a lopsided as the second, but they clearly outplayed in the third IMO (I'm not saying dominated, but the Penguins seemed to have a territorial edge, out shot us, and out chanced us)

BUT, i will say that the 3rd period was a firework of a hockey game. Both teams brought their best... Rangers would rush in for a shot, set up, fire away (wide half of the time)m Fleury makes a save, then the Pens would pick up the puck, Rangers would go on defense, pens would set up and take some shots, same stuff..

It was just a back and forth game once the 3rd came around... Pens really only scored one goal, that second goal was a fluke, and they had nothing after that.

I couldn't see the second period because of a business meeting, but a plethora of posters on other sites who aren't fans of either NY or Pitt said it was blatant goalie interference and should have been a penalty and no goal. Is what it is though... we got the W and managed the rare feat of winning by two in OT. That's kinda cool :D

It was implied when I said the lack of a hard shooter from the point is "crippling our power play and eliminating any chance for a tip-in or rebound goal" that we also need more of a net presence. But one begets the other. Right now, the Rangers PP consists mostly of back-and-forth passes from point men to the wingers on the perimeter.

So yes, while heavy slapshots like Chara, Weber, Phaneuf, or Garrison's are perhaps in short supply league-wide, knowing when to unload from the point, and a low, accurate shot is just as important, especially on the PP.

Blue Jackets fans are cute. Apparently Crosby was flying last night because there was no Brandon "Datsyuk" Dubinsky. I don't remember all this "flying". He was not on the ice for any of the goals and had 3 shots. Jackets fans really overrating their team.

On the Pens first goal:

I don't get how anyone could call out McD for that goal. When he goes down low we have not one but two forwards (Zucc and Poo) up near the blueline. Then Pouliot makes one of the three worst reads I can remember a player making off the top of my head. The other two would be McIlrath this year and Kreider in game 7 last year before the Asham goal. Just a horrible reckless decision by Pouliot. Is McD playing to his standard. No. But not every play has to fit a narrative. Poo made a disgusting read and then we were still in fine shape but everyone just eased up on the play. Nonetheless if the backhander goes wide or blocked nobody says a word about McD on the play.

On Nash:

The key to winning this series will be puck management. Being strong on the puck and moving it quickly and safely up the ice. In this regard the entire Rangers team was in a funk. Probably the worst game of the 8 playoff games. And Nash stood out in terms of horrible puck management.

All I remember is Crosby getting stood up on the blue line Staal
