Wow, I can’t believe it’s been that long. Listen to that crowd! This team used to really mean something to people. Hopefully with Danny-boy gone they can build back towards that level of respectability.

Kind of a trip seeing random players like Terry Orr, Monte Coleman, and Mark May that you just kinda took for granted back in the day. Gibbs/Beathard/Casserly always knew how to build a roster with quality depth and role players. Of course, it was pre-cap, but whatever, lol.

Yep. Beathard put together the most famous offensive line in history, with 2 UDFAs (Jacoby and Bostic), a 3rd round pick (Grimm), a 1st round pick (May) and an 11th round pick that he inherited (Starke). The trade for Lachey was legendary and Casserly added Schlereth in the 10th round.

Those guys knew how to build a team. Ron, less so.

Sports talking heads notes:

- lots of man coverage which is fine if youre getting pressure but if you arent then you can give up big plays ... only way Fields and Bears could beat you is if you allowed explosive plays. Should have done soft zones and force Fields to stay inaccurate and impatient underneath

- JDR needs to move guys around bc rushing 4 the same way every time is not working

- Jon Allen plantar facitis might be effecting his play, plus tons of snaps w little TC conditioning

- need to roll safety over Forbes if he is going to be aggressive ... we drafted him to be aggressive

- Barton tape not good

- JDRs plan that our 11 can beat their 11 so we dont have to scheme isnt working

- mentioned going cinco or down 5 linemen which is what i want to see

JDR's only weekly plan is to do as little work as possible.

What kind of highschool-ass shit is that? Is he/are they so out of touch that they really think they have this all-world play-at-a-deficit roster?

Man I miss those days. Gibbs also managed to get players that would succumb, fortuitously, to rare illnesses during camp and thus needed to be stashed…placed on IR.

Was the lachey trade for jay - get the hell off the field - shroeder?

I youtubed a while back the trucking lachey put on some DB, who made an int or fumble recovery, and was running down the sideline until he met an immovable object.

My everlasting memory of Jay Schroeder….the 17-0 loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship game. It was so cold it seemed like they were playing on concrete…

from the NY Times article on the game lol….

Schroeder, his blond hair ruffled as if from a deep sleep, came through the tunnel with the help of two Redskin coaches, one holding each of his arms. His eyes seemed either to be seeing nothing, or looking at nothing. He moved uncertainly. ''My God,'' said an observer, ''he's on queer street.''

Yes: NFL Trade Winds: Herschel Walker and the Top 25 Blockbuster Trades of All Time

In 1987, third-year OT Jim Lachey made his first Pro Bowl for the Chargers. Lachey wanted a richer contract after proving himself as an NFL tackle, so the Chargers decided he was more trouble than he was worth.

San Diego unloaded Lachey to the Oakland Raiders, receiving OT John Clay and a pair of draft picks in exchange. Oakland, in turn, traded Lachey after just one game, acquiring QB Jay Schroeder and a pair of draft picks from Washington.

Clay failed his physical upon reporting to the Chargers and played just two games in a San Diego uniform. Schroeder endured five largely unsuccessful seasons as the Raiders’ starter.
The Redskins, meanwhile, laughed all the way to the bank, as Lachey made two more Pro Bowls and anchored the line for their 1991 Super Bowl champs.

Despite not being a big Skins or football fan, it was impossible to grow up in DC in the '80s without being a fan of some of those guys: Monk, Green, the Hogs. Riggins was a great player, but also a dick. Monk and Green were all class, and the Hogs were just stupid-great.

My last two years of high school I was classmates with Jack Kent Cooke's grandson. He was severely dyslexic so academics weren't really his jam. But he was way into photography, and of course had the resources to indulge the hobby to the max. One of those resources was the Skins. Dexter Manley posed nude for him (pics were incredible!)... and he also spent time on the sidelines, snapping shots of the cheerleaders and game action. Was all pretty cool.

Right, now I'm going to spend the next 25 minutes trying to get the image of Naked Dexter Manley out of my mind. Was he posing like Rose in Titanic? Never mind.

The only time someone was kind of a jerk was when I was the only person by the tunnel when Chase Young was with training staff in his 2nd year after his rookie of the year campaign. He was just walking off the field and I'm the only one there, I ask for an autograph and he said nah. This was during covid restrictions though so players were technically forbidden from signing (although I saw pictures of him signing for fans in NE after the game the week before). To be fair he did sign for kids during training camp as well as other times too.

Met Monk last year briefly. He was coming out of the "Legends Plaza" and swarmed by people, he quickly signed my glossy. Met him, Green (told the story of him at the Bowie Baysox game earlier this year where he wouldn't sign anything but would be glad to take a picture, when I talked to him he commented that I didn't have my phone out fast enough ), Mann, Clark I think, Roy Jefferson, RG3, Alex Smith the year he came to town before he ever played (Redskins 5k), Chris Samuels, Ryan Kerrigan, etc. (I'll never forget Kerrigan trying to sign for as many people as possible, then he was taking a break and I waved at him and he waved back and came over and signed some more  ) Theissman wasn't a jerk to me, I met him before and I asked him how the players dieted in those days, he basically said they drank beer all the time and played football . Never met Riggo personally but have seen him up close with Sheehan when they used to do the pre-game show on 980. Seen Manley before. Never met Doc Walker but seen him up close before and he is a good guy.

This is so dumb. The No Fun League strikes again.

A little peace sign is unsportsmanlike conduct? Really? The entire premise of all these "taunting" calls and fines is "our league is full of emotionally fragile man-babies who can't stand the teensiest bit of trash talk or else they'll get violent or maybe cry, but don't you dare call them dangerous or unstable".

It’s not like they allow taunting at any level…..the sport is too violent at a base level I guess….to allow much of anything.
