I’d imagine playing Dallas means our SoS will wind up higher than Pats who face lowly Jets.

If we hang on to #2, I would also consider trading back. If someone at 5/6/7 wants to trade up for a 2nd rd pick, we could still get one of the top QBs in the 5/6/7 spot and have another early 2nd to add a OT.

QB is and should be the priority, but we need a lot more help around the roster and that includes probably 4 on the OL

Per tankathon, the SOS is already weighted against all 17 opponents a team faces. So, if I understand that correctly, Dallas’ current record is already baked into the current number that has us 2OA.

So, it’s just gonna be up to how NE/WSH’s season opponents do next week. The best you can do is take their common opponents, cross them out, and focus on the remaining teams. But, the aggregate math is gonna be tough to project - so it’s just gonna be a squeaker next week.

I wouldn’t put it pass Bill to want to beat the Jets in his last game. He doesn’t care about next years team if he’s out.

If the Bears take Marvin’s Harrison and a lot of their fans want him

And somehow Caleb Williams is ours at 2.

I’m going to be honest, there is something that worries me about Caleb Williams. He doesn’t seem to be all that mature.
Drake Maye in the other hand comes from a family of big time athletes, also already has plenty of money and carries himself like a grown ass man. I'd draft him 10/10 over Williams.

Nice run down of a group of potential coaching candidates but to be honest more interested in the GM atm.

Adam Peters

Team — San Francisco 49ers
Position — Assistant GM
Connections — 49ers DC Steve Wilks, Texans OC Bobby Slowik, Commanders GM Martin Mayhew

It’s possible that on Sunday at FedEx Field, Harris bumped into arguably the most coveted general manager candidate this cycle.

Formal interviews with potential hires cannot begin until Jan. 8. There’s no stipulation on random social interactions, especially when the two parties occupy the same space, as was the case with Peters, a front-office target who was in attendance for San Francisco’s 27-10 win over Washington.

“I think that if you’re a team looking this year, to put it bluntly, you would be dumb to look anywhere else,” an NFL agent said as part of The Athletic’s annual agent survey. “I think he is the best in the business.”

Agents also voted Peters among the league’s talent evaluators and front-office leaders they trust the most, rare mentions for non-general managers. He tied for first in the “Future GM to Watch” category with Khai Harley (Saints) and Nolan Teasley (Seahawks).

This piece on Trent Williams is a reminder of (1) the importance of having a strong LT and strong OL (2) what a unique asset Williams was and how stupid this organization managed it and (3) this organization’s singular ability to miss talent when it was right in front of them - whether among draft picks, players, or coaches - while imputing talent and ability where it didn’t exist.

Kittle’s comments are especially illuminating

This is genius:

Great read. Thanks for sharing.

It's sad that this one instance did tremendous damage to the franchise due to nothing other than the complete arrogance and incompetence of one small idiot.

And as terrible as the Trent Williams in Washington story is, there are a 100 more stories that are similarly stupid.

Heres another article on how TW is the real MVP of the 9rs.

This is interesting doublespeak.

The NFL allegedly blames the Lions for the officiating fiasco at the end of the game, but Brad Allen's crew is reportedly going to be "downgraded" going into the playoffs.

Why "downgrade" them if they did nothing wrong?

That stuff about how Brock Purdy looks like an MVP candidate when Williams is at LT, and then looks very ordinary when Williams is out (which is backed up by Purdy being 12-0 with a healthy Williams, and 0-4 without one) should be kept front of mind in deciding (1) how to evaluate Howell this season and (2) whether to pick a QB in the draft. Not saying Howell is the guy or don't pick a QB under any circumstances - but if any of the QBs have flaws (and especially if they don't have a lot of experience playing under pressure and with collapsing pockets), then maybe press pause on it.

I wouldn't hang our hats on that scenario. GRanted all of this is subject to change, but as of today the teams in the 5-7 range are NYG, LAC and TEN. Of those, the only one that's Jonesing for a QB (see what I did there?) is the NYG, and I will throat-kick a wino if the new regime gives a division rival Maye or Williams. The next team in the QB market is the NYJ at 8, but they don't have a second this year. 9OA is Atlanta, who could want a QB, but would they trade the necessary assets to grab another QB after Ridder? 10OA is CHI, and they can have whichever QB they want at 1 -- if they even want to replace Fields.
Then you get all the teams b/t 11-15 OA, which is the same ****ing range we've been picking in for most of the last decade. You CANNOT piss away the opportunity that this shit-show of a season has given us by dropping out of range to get what is a high-probability franchise-altering talent.
Speaking with all the authority some random tool on the internets is due, I would MUCH rather take a generational QB prospect at 2OA rather than hope everything falls right and either my 3rd or 4th rated QB lasts past #10 and that I get the best RT left early in the 2nd (yup, after Alt and Fashanu, something like the next 4-6 rated OTs project as RTs in the pros, or even kicking inside to G). (Also, with our 2 high 2nd rounders, we can get that guy if we want him anyway.)
I might be willing to flip w/ whichever of NE or ARZ ends up at 4OA, which would guarantee we get at least get our franchise LT, but we'd have to damned sure that we're fully ready to roll with Sam in 2024 because you cannot expect that a Nix or Penix will be there in the early 2nd, and if they are, that could come in and grab the starting job as a rookie. (And I love Daniels probably more than anyone here, but I don't think he's the guaranteed success story that a top 5 pick has to be. Caleb and Maye, MHJ and both LTs have that profile.)

There's also a small chance that we win and draft 6th. They better not mess this up.
If the Cowboys come in here with a chance to wrap up the division on the home field of a hated rival and shit the bed -- well, then... I guess I'll never root for them again.

Two things: I agree, you can't pass on Maye if you have the chance. But the OL will need attention in a big way before they let Maye step on the field.

Also, Dallas has done this before, with us, even. Never underestimate their ability to be a bunch of idiots. Both us and the Cowboys.

Totally agree on the OL -- I am the guy who a few weeks back demanded that we spend all 8 of picks on LTs. It shreds my heart and my head to say that if we get a shot at either Caleb or Maye we have to take it, at the expense of Fashanu or Alt.
Now, if our new regime has the onions to pull a HOU and get back into the top 5 to get the LT PLUS the QB, well, that would make this draft an all-time thrill-ride.
As for the ability of both DAL and us to **** Sunday up -- yeah. Yeah. That's not a small concern.
