I knowwww, the team has been terrible the last 2 years. Ugh, curse this stupid management.
Coasting off the coaching bump? They've been an elite team for over a year under the new coaches and were within a goal of winning the cup, that's one long coaching bump.

They've added players that have made positive contributions, no marquee names but this team doesn't need another marquee name. If they don't do much at the deadline then you can go on with your bellyaching but this constant bellyaching is premature.

The off-season looks like a giant whiff right now, they blew $10 million in cap on Arvidsson, Skinner, and Henrique and none are doing well and handcuffed themselves in the process and lost Broberg and Holloway as a result. The year prior Holland basically did nothing and gave up a 1st to get Henrique as a so-called "all-in" move.

This is not what one expects from Cup winning management.

Maybe McDavid and Draisaitl can drag this front office to a Cup, but the management is not really doing their fair share.

It is truly hilarious to explain to "hockey people" that Ceci is awful at hockey lol

Youre not wrong about wanting to upgrade guys in the lineup. I would be disappointed if we didn't we didn't try and improve our lineup. Having said that we're currently a top 5 team in the NHL so their is no real rush.

Having said that, I dont think the laack of depth scoring will be an issue. I think we need to make some decisions on guys but we can't just look at offence.

Fans need to accept that Knoblauch has changed the way this team plays. He's happy to keep rolling out players with 0 offence so long that they play on the right side of the puck.

Henrique, Janmark and Brown are all being put in defensive roles this year. Henrique has the best GA/60 on the team this year. Brown still has 20 points on the season (while a guy like Frederic has 14). Janmark has been a black hole offensively but helps with the PK.

RNH can do more offensively but he's supposed to be that defensive conscious on that top line. Skinner has produced in his limited role but Knoblauch refuses to play him in the top 6. I doubt he's here at the deadline.

Arvidsson has also had good defensive metrics but someone that looked fantastic in the playoffs last year.

Tbh were just kinda coasting right now and waiting for the playoffs to start. I'll the pieces are there and we don't have any glaring holes in the lineup.
other than J Skinner, the other guys are all playing well defensively for the most part. J Skinner even played well defensively against the Wings. But, the others, well playing well defensively aren' t doing much of anything on the offensive side. THEY NEED MORE from these guys, if they want to win a Cup, simple as that. The production that they have gotten will NOT be enough to win in the playoffs imo.

Teams are making moves now, but I think the Oilers are going to be deadline movers. I am positive they're going to take a massive swing, but whether do it on defense or for a forward will depend on Klingberg's progression. They gotta give him some time to see what they have there.

We are 3rd in the league lol

Sure, that's what having the two best players in the league, one of them being the best player in the last 30 years can do for you.

It doesn't absolve the front office of sucking balls last summer and not doing much of anything for a couple of years now.

…. Do you not remember how our team played when McDrai actually had zero support?

I 100% agree with this. The offseason moves up front, UFA wise, have not worked out to this point.

Rico, at least, is playing a role, 3C, PK, that being said, there is no way he would be happy with his offensive production so far this year.

As for J Skinner, sure, he hasn't gotten a lot of opportunity, but either Knob, 97, 29 - some combination of 2 or all 3 of these guys do not trust J Skinner and do not want him in the top 6 on this team, so why did they sign this guy and not even talk to these 3? Horrible management.

Arvidsson? yikes, 4 million per? for this? the guy falls down all the time, he doesn't score or produce, he gets tossed around, and he's not a pest or anything. 2 years!?!?!?! So far, this has been the worst move that this team made this summer.

Lol still pretty good. If you think the difference between now and then is that then I don’t know what to tell you…

It doesn't even matter, the point is a managment group that is looking for a Cup is typically better than what we're seeing here.

Being better than Chiarelli at his lowest ebb ... whoopity f***ing doo, you want a trophy for that?

The last summer was terrible, they blew a lot of money on under-performing players and lost two of the better young players the team had in the process.

They better have some thing good cooking this year and get something done that translates on the ice, no more excuses. The front office needs to be better than this, this is not what Cup winning management looks like. One good move maybe every 2-3 years doesn't cut it.

Who do you think that we could get that would fill that role? It would be nice to find someone that can feed Henrique in the slot.
None that I can think of I wanted either Morgan Frost or a 50% retained Taylor Hall for the role and both are off the market.

The others who are on the market that fit the role I think are too good to be on the 3rd line, especially when our 2nd line also needs help.

The off-season was Chiarelli-esque. Not good enough, Jackson/Bowman better have something from now until the deadline that actually moves the needle. It better be something better than Adam freaking Henrique.

Trade wise, most the moves look pretty good. Pod deal was a win. Emberson deal was a win. McLeod deal, it was more a cap dump move, too early to tell.

Broberg and Holloway were both huge losses, but that's more on the organization for their role in their development over the last few years. These 2 were more of an organizational loss, plenty of blame to go around for their departures.

UFA wise - it has not been good, how many signings that were made would you say have been good value wise so far?

Perry - yes.
C. Brown - maybe, it's at least average.
Henrique - no.
Janmark - no.
J Skinner - no.
Arvidsson - no.
J. Brown - no.
Dermott - no.

How anyone could argue that the Oilers had a good summer, UFA signing wise, is beyond me.

My favourite part about the UFA signings is the one guy people complained about (contract) has by far been the best

It was not exactly a banner year on the FA side. Its perfectly fair to be critical of how the signings have played but aside rom perhaps keeping Holloway and Foegele who would have realistically been your target.

Going into the summer, the night before free agency weren't we linked to be signing Jake DeBrusk and retaining Holloway/Broberg?

Sure wish they had gone that route instead. We spent more money to have a shittier result, lol.

Bottom line is Jackson/Bowman have no business feeling too good about themselves, you haven't done your fair share to improve the team yet and put-up or shut up time is coming. You better get something done that actually translates to tangible on ice results.

true. Perry has earned every penny of that 1.4 million dollar deal.

I'm not saying that most of the UFAs signings have been even bad or horrible, but, for a team that is in the mix for the Stanley Cup? they haven't even been close to good enough.

big time, that would of been a lot better. When, people were saying not to match on Holloway and Broberg, they were saying that, with a big assumption that Arvidsson and Skinner, a combined 7 million per were going to perform and produce a WHOLE LOT more than they have so far. One of the main arguements for not matching was the Oilers could not afford to gamble that Holloway and Broberg @ a combined cap hit or 6.871 million per could produce enough while taking up that much cap space.

Boy, were people wrong about that?

so far...

Holloway and Broberg (a D man) - 91 GP 19 Goals 24 Assists 53 Points

Arvidsson and J Skinner - 81 GP 15 Goals 18 Assists 33 Points

They make more, they are older, and they have produced less. Not ideal, not a good look, not a good outcome. Also, don't forget, the guys we signed over them, are both older, slower, and smaller, and have a combined ZERO Cups as well. This swap out of these 4 players has gone horribly for the Oilers, so far.

They may very well have tried to get Debrusk but he signed a 7 year $5.5M deal on July 1. Would you have paid more for him?

Without resurrecting the debate here I would have been ok with retaining Holloway back then and of course in hindsight would be more so. But I actually think retaining Broberg would have been a set back this year even if they could have got his to sign at $2M.

No one here that I can see feels that the Oiler management should sit back and be content. I won't be happy if they do nothing going forward but I actually like where they are. But let's be honest here. Its not like any of their moves have significantly hurt the team this year or for the long haul. There are teams out there that can't say that.
