Yeah, I thought the official effed them over on that. According to the retired official they had on the broadcast, though, Decker was also uncovered, and there was a third element DET screwed up, too. So it sounds like if the ineligible hadn't been called, either other foul would have negated the play anyway. Will be interesting to hear post-game comments about that f***ed up ending. They showed footage of 68 walking up to the ref before that conversion. What would he be saying to him if not reporting as eligible?
I stand corrected, thanks for the research.Brad Allen's officiating crew has been at the center of the bad call controversy recently. From earlier this month:

From last night:

No mention of the formation being illegal beyond that. Decker says he reported and he looks like he reported from the video I saw.

I think he reported, Allen only heard #70 report (or thought 70 instead of 68 because that had already happened several times) and that's all he told the d-line. If all these guys say is "report" and not their number then 68 and 70 could report at the same time and the ref might just assume he only heard 70 reporting again. Then maybe they asked the d-line and they told him he only said #70 so in his mind #68 never reported.
edit: in fact I just found an account that claims exactly the above:
Roger Goodell’s so-called better-than-ever NFL officiating blew the end of Cowboys-Lions, then doubled down
Whether it was a miscommunication or an outright error by the officials, Saturday's controversial finish is another bad look for the league in a high-profile spot.sports.yahoo.com

Here's another link where Allen clears up the shit Buck and Aikman were talking about regarding the formation being illegal anyway. It wasn't. Not for #68.

Goff tells 68 to report and is seen sending him to the ref. The coach tells 68 to report. 68 says he reported. 70 says he did NOT speak. Ref hears 68 and thinks it was 70. Then 68 lines up as eligible but 70 doesn't...why would they do this if they hadn't reported correctly?
Basically this inept or corrupt officiating crew screwed the Lions and handed a win to the Cowboys.
I just hope we can keep it closer than Florida State did last night.View attachment 793303
Howell starting. JB out.
Sam is being fed into a meat grinder.
I wonder if he'll just play one half of this game.
Meh. I hate the Cowboys AND put down a large ML bet on the Lions when they were down 7-3 in the 2nd Q. So I got doubly screwed on this one.Brad Allen's officiating crew has been at the center of the bad call controversy recently. From earlier this month:

That said, Campbell is an idiot. Once it got marked back to the 7 yard line, you kick the XP and go to OT. Regardless of why, you take your lump and move to fight another day. Odds were very much stacked against them at the 7 vs the 2.
Coach botched it
College Football powers reaped what they sowed on that one…..the Orange Bowl sponsors should get a massive refund…..total farce. Waiting to see a lot more top, but non-playoff teams start to lose starters for these now (pretty much) meaningless other bowl games.I just hope we can keep it closer than Florida State did last night.
Lol I like the sled vs sled strategyAfter seeing the Bro Shove enough times I think I've figured it out.
All the pundits talk about Hurts' squatting power and his legs but it's asinine to believe one guy's legs are driving that entire pile. Or even one guy with 2 guys helping him push the pile.
If you watch carefully you can see Hurts actually picks up his feet and is pushed along the backs of the O-line, who get low and push as hard as they can, while the shovers push Hurts along this human sled.
If you're a d-lineman trying to stop it you can't get any leverage on Hurts because your own legs are being driven back by the O-line.
I'm not sure how you stop it when done correctly. Maybe you have to focus on the shovers and dive over the pile to stop them. Maybe you have to quickly and somehow get lower than the O-line so they can't establish that runway for Hurts to be pushed across. Or maybe you just have to create your own human sled to oppose Hurts and have one more guy shoving than the Eagles do.
