That stuff about how Brock Purdy looks like an MVP candidate when Williams is at LT, and then looks very ordinary when Williams is out (which is backed up by Purdy being 12-0 with a healthy Williams, and 0-4 without one) should be kept front of mind in deciding (1) how to evaluate Howell this season and (2) whether to pick a QB in the draft. Not saying Howell is the guy or don't pick a QB under any circumstances - but if any of the QBs have flaws (and especially if they don't have a lot of experience playing under pressure and with collapsing pockets), then maybe press pause on it.
The point about OL making the QB, not vice versa, is a good one. TW was a 4th overall pick. But that 2010 draft was maybe the worst ever for QBs. LT is the most important position on the OL, but I still wouldn't pass on the QB at 2. If we were still drafting 4 or 5, then I'd go Alt or Fashanu, but at 2, they gotta go QB.
