Watch matthews games 1-4 vs 5-7, by the end of the series he was skating slower than joe. Honestly it wouldn't hurt to play him less.

What Matthews are you watching? Clay Matthews? Dave Matthews Band?

If you think Matthews should get less ice time you are maybe stoned at a Dave Matthews Band concert.

oh my bad i forgot we won a playoff round and Matthews didn't get shut down the past 2 years

I don’t think it’d hurt to dial back minutes a bit, but let’s not act like their mins just suddenly caught up with them game 61-63 of the campaign when they’d just gone up 3-1 vs Montreal and looked good

The whole team got shut down.

His line didn't give up a goal until game 7. He was still effective when he wasn't scoring.
Thats my point LOL. If Matthews is neutral we aren't winning any playoff rounds. We tried stacking his line and playing him all night, it hasn't worked, 2 series in a row his line had a hard time scoring. It's not like he was canceling out MTL or CBJ scoring lines either.

Matthews = Riley Nash under Keefe. Thanks Keefe

He had 11 points in 12 games in those 2 series...

I would not have Kampf above the 4th line. By all accounts, he is not strong offensively. I don’t understand the reluctance by our coaching staff the last few years to give Spezza anything beyond 4th line minutes 5 on 5. The guy has been stellar since he arrived. Give him 3rd line minutes this year, at least!

Mirtle has mentioned the Leafs seem to think limiting his time keeps him fresher when he's out on the ice given his age.

Ritchie - Matthews - Nylander
Mikheyev - Tavares - Marner
Bunting - kerfoot -Kampfs
Simmonds - Engvall - Spezza

Then why did they give much more ice time to the much older, slower, Thornton?

Forward lines will be all mixed up in camp and exhibition schedule .. tons of experimentation going on both forwards and defense .. only thing solid is tenders and Soup will start as #1 to open season

Id love to see less Mikhayev and Engvall with more Gusev and or Ho-Sang
Disagree on Mikheyev. Agree on Engvall. Depending on how Gusev does, he could be a good scorer in the bottom 6.

I have a tough time understanding the love Ho-Sang seems to get. He's 25 and has done nothing at the NHL level, puts up decent numbers in the A and had 3 points in 9 games last year in Sweden. None of that tells me he'll be much of an NHL player.

I think a lot of this type is still from his minor hockey days when he was projected as a top end talent.

Dilutes ice time of your best players...
No it doesn’t. This is some sort of urban legend that guys on HF boards who forgot that special teams exist keep preaching

Won’t be an issue getting all the stars around 20-22 when you include power play time together, loading up a line for the last min of each period or 2 minutes of 6 on 5 together

Has Keefe finally learned about spreading out the offence?

This could look like
Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Kase/Ho Sang
Mikeyhev-Kerfoot-Nylander
