That was a 'we know our season is over' effort...maybe they know something we don't about Jack
Friedman said tonight (I only saw it posted here off Twitter) that he’s hearing it doesn’t involve surgery. So that’s not worst case.

Fun that the only updates we get are from him, Weekes and posters on this board that have plugs. We never get anything from the horse’s mouth.

Until a player is shut down for months like Dougie was.

LOL wins also includes 3v3 and shootouts. I think regulation losses are a better barometer of how a team is performing.
Yes, winning in the 3 on 3 is better than losing in the 3 on 3 or shootout.

Seems like a silly way to look at things. We are a way better team than the Islanders or Capitals are, your barometer is broken.

We will miss Jack most on the power play. You could see at the end there that zone entries with possession are no longer going to be automatic. Bratt and Luke are going to have to make the entries.

As to tonight, I do not understand Ruff’s basic decision to slot in Mercer for Hughes on both the top line and the power play. On the power play no way Mercer can do anything like Jack’s role. Mercer doesn’t skate particularly well, isn’t going to make entries by himself, and isn’t going to rag the puck and draw the defense to him top left. If you are thinking originally maybe you move Bratt up there and let him wheel and deal and exchange the puck with Luke. But not Mercer there no way.

I don’t blame Lindsey for us coming out with no legs after last night. But the personnel adjustments without Jack, that I just don’t understand at all.

I mean this isn't the same Vancouver team, they're legit good this year. This game was toast after they had to expend way more energy v Rockford Icehogs last night

8-1 in the first half of back to backs, 1-7-1 in the back half of back to backs...
Well the positive with that is in the playoff follow that formula and we would win the odd numbered games which is the most important!

This Devils went to the Cup final in 11-12 with an absurd number of shootout wins, it means nothing once you get there. Panthers were average on the road last year and went 8-4 in the playoffs.

The PP had some good chances they just missed on. Obviously a big problem is there is no second unit to speak of so if they don’t get a goal in 1:15-1:20 it is killed off.

They are going to keep putting that bum out our season is over. I'm looking to next year already with no Vitek or Ruff
I told my friend this the other night over the phone. Maybe even a week ago.

The end of the season press conference from Fitz will go something like this if we miss the playoffs

''Well, it was a tough season, no doubt. But Rome wasn't built in a day. We knew this season was going to be challenging and we set a high bar for ourselves after last season. Teams took us more seriously, they played their starting goalies against us. They brought their best effort. Because that secret is out that the New Jersey Devils are a good hockey club and we had the target on our backs this time. We weren't catching anybody off guard.

And we had a very unfortunate season with injuries when you look at it. Nico and Jack both missing I think 8 or 10 games at the same time in November? Timo was in and out of the lineup all year. So was Jack. Palat had that injury. Dougie didn't play a game after November. Siegenthaler missed a bunch of time. These are big pieces, I don't care what team you are. Vitek was dealing with mental health issues all season. I know they'll be corrected over the offseason. And we'll be back next season and we'll be better. We are moving on from Dave Rogalski. We wanna thank him for his time here''.

And everybody else will be retained lol.

Yeah win however you have to get to the race then worry about playoff hockey I’ll take 40 3on3 overtime wins

Marino was a -4 and Bahl a -3 !

JT Miller was a +5 , Boeser & Pettersson +4.

That means 1 line straight up dominated us tonight.

Nico was pointless with only 1 shot on goal. His game has really tapered off this season.

They should go with Dawes next game but even with that the saves he made he still let in a few killer softies.

Fitz really has to be worried about the cap and that’s why he hasn’t pulled the trigger yet for a goalie. SMH if he doesn’t make a move and try to salvage the season this team is out in 5 in the playoffs. Probably get the game 4 win to avoid a sweep

I'm not sure you can say that when shitty efforts in the back of back to backs has been a consistent thing all season.
This wasn’t a shitty effort so much as us being blown by last night and not having the personnel to match up with them. With 4 of our best 5 players out the difference in skill the two clubs had out there tonight on certain shifts was depressing. And Ruff’s management of our personnel to try to paper it over didn’t help either. Add to that simple exhaustion after last night and there we are. We did well to make it that close.

That non call on the trip on Luke at the end was really bush league. The trip was as blatant and dramatic as any I’ve ever seen. The defender literally launched Luke in a 360 degree dive at full speed. The ref is standing there looking right at it.

Especially with Jack out.

He's got to look at this like "Okay...Jack's out so I need to step it up and start throwing pucks at the net more and less of this fancy-shmancy razzle-dazzle stuff".
Preach on my man! I know bowl is going to be pouncing

Of course it's better to win in OT than lose LOL thanks. I'm talking about what this team does in regulation. 5v5 hockey. They have as many losses there as the Penguins, and the only team in the conference with more is a basement dweller.

Say what you want about the Islanders...they can at least get the games to OT, unlike this squad. I don't think the Isles are a good team, but I am saying that our team hasn't been good either.
