You kidding me
Ty smith has been franking terrible this season.

And he was really good last year. Truly bizarre turn around, but not unprecedented. His draft year, he came into camp and a lot of people thought he looked so good he should have made the team. We sent him back and people thought he'd come back the following year and be a lock for the roster, only to have him put up arguably the worst camp out of any player and get sent back again.

Then he finally gets a crack last year and was really good, before being awful this year.

If we aren't moving him dollar for dollar, we should keep him to try and re-establish the value next year. If we can get what we feel is dollar for dollar value on him (or at least something very close to it), we should be willing to move him in the right offer.

The problem with a Zacha for Boeser trade is that we lose the more valuable skill (goal scoring) for a more well rounded game, further down the line up to be sure. Boeser's QO doesn't scare me either, if we aren't able to negotiate a cheaper, longer deal, it at least buys us a year for about 1.7 more in cap space. If any of the guys listed, aside from Walsh, were right handed, we'd have a great fit for a trade, but we have Hughes, OEL and Rathbone filling out our LHD for the forseeable future, so I don't think the LHD, as good as they will become, are a fit for us. Walsh is the right fit for handedness, but we have a lot of puck movers too, and I think size and physicality or toughness are what we're looking for, similar to Schenn for longer term.

Boquist isn't someone I'm too excited about, mostly because he's only 2 years younger than Garland. Certainly not a bad prospect, but I think we'd need someone younger, so we can sort out our Miller/Horvat/Pettersson/Dickinson/any fourth line player center situation we have. I don't think we'd need someone that can step in right away. We also paid a kings ransom to get Garland on the team this offseason, and he contributes stuff most of our guys don't, so I don't know that we're in a hurry to move him either.

I agree my view is thrown out if Rutherford or some of the new management really like what they see in someone mentioned, but without seeing something through their perspective, it would seem a lot like moving assets we're short on for assets we have in the system, to varying extents, already.

Zacha is in no way well-rounded. He's a liability at 5-on-5 and most Devils fans will tell you that. Zacha as the main piece coming back would be horrible. Boquist at this point is just a ho-hum fringe NHLer who might develop into a middle-six player.

I don't see Devils fans really being willing to part with their top prospects, which is fair enough.

I wouldn't trade Boeser now. His perceived value is at its lowest. Sign him to the QO, watch him get back to his usual 60 points per 82 pace next season, and then look at a deal.

Smith + Zacha + Protected 2023 1st (top 10 maybe) for Boeser seems like a fair value trade and a win-win.

Ryan Graves should be the target here. Canucks PK is horrible and he’s 26 6’5 and signed two more years at 3 million. I can see the Canucks trying to convert him to the Right side beside Hughes. A fan and I have already agreed that:
NJD: Boeser + Poolman + Dickinson
VAN: Graves + 22 2nd + 23 2nd
Vancouver saves around 8 million in cap and gets a young Defensive D that was +40 two years ago. The two picks should be relatively high.
NJD get the best asset in the deal and take on the caps of Dickinson who has value, just isn’t a fit and Poolman.

Graves isn't going anywhere besides on the pairing with Dougie Hamilton

I'm not saying that Zacha is on the same level as Boeser but if you look at their current stats for this year and include the fact that Boeser is clearly given more offensive opportunity to have better numbers, then I don't see why adding Smith or a first makes sense.
Boeser 43 14 13 27
Zacha 47 12 11 23

Is smith and/or a first really worth the upgrade?
You do know Smith is still only in his second year and has yet to play a full season and still has the potential to be a top pairing offensive defenseman? Lets not forget that Boeser is making $6 and is an RFA that is probably going to request $8 and currently not worth that.
I think you would be crazy to make a trade that involves Smith or a first

we would have Hughes, OEL, Smith and Rathbone. Unless maybe one of those pieces is flipped for something else. But you take the best players you can get and then work from there

Graves would be an awful centerpiece for Boeser.
