Jiricek since returning from the WJC has a whopping 1 goal in 13 games and is a minus 5. After a hor start he’s tailed off considerably. He’s not a great benchmark at this point.
Well that happens to young players. Hot and cold that is....he's .8 PPG, imagine if he didn't go cold

with A young player id suggest what they do when they start isn’t nearly as important as how they finish. If his scoring evaporated completely something is up. Maybe he hit the wall or got hurt or maybe he isn’t as good as his start suggests.

He has cooled off. Over his last 10 he still has 6 pts compared to Nemec’s 3. Even a cooled off Jiricek’s had the more impressive production

And 3 of Jiricek’s points were on the PP and he was minus four. Nenec’s points were all even strength and he was only minus one on a terrible team. I’m not saying Nemec is better. I’m saying they are both works in progress and using Jiricek as a benchmark of success is misplaced. Neither is NHL ready and whatever advantage Jiricek might have is seemingly pretty minimal right now.

I was expecting a little more production from Nemec so far this season...but Utica kind of sucks in terms of production...so I can't read too much into an 18 year old just turned 19 Dman with 18 points in 43 games.
I think a .41 ppg for an 18 year old in a new country, playing in a new league and adjusting to a smaller ice size. I think he has done well considering the slow start he had

To be fair, if both productions this year were reversed you’d be downplaying Nemec as being a PP merchant with 62% of his points on the PP and praising Jiricek for having more EV points.

"I was expecting a bit more" is the tamest of all Jim put downs. Even says himself "I can't read too much into it."

People need to relax, these players aren't your children being bullied by an older kid.... older intoxicated uncle maybe... but still

Some people get hilariously set off when someone suggests one prospect isn’t perfect right now or another team’s prospect is good.

He made an observation about Nemec’s scoring and then even pointed out an obvious explanation/excuse for it (the team’s offense has completely disappeared).

I also believe guys performing worse after the U20 is a common thing.

We just need to see progress next year, he’s a teenage defenseman.

So you are saying it’s only teenage wasteland?

Fully agree with all of this.

My fear is that they move him onto the Devils roster next year.

IMO he is not ready for the show yet. I constantly read "Let his dominate inthe AHL 1st".
He hasn't done that for a moment in Utica this season. He shows more "promise" than any D-prospect the Devils have placed here in their 2 seasons in Utica. However, the promise has yet to be reached.

I am high as a kite on this kid, but "kid" is the main point. He needs to cook some more. His powder puff shot at least is accurate. Something prospects like Thompson, Walsh, and Foote should take note of.

Brodeur made a comment at the beginning of the season (maybe it was over the summer?) that with NJ in a good spot now they don't have to rush prospects. Hopefully they are true to his word and Nemec is given as much time as needed with Utica to round out his game. I know it is frustrating as a fan of the Comets to have to watch these young players fumble and bumble their way as they mature but there must be some satisfaction when they do turn the corner and make it to the NHL and you can take some pride in knowing you were there before anyone else saw them. The Utica fans deserve a real effort from NJ to put together a sold team in Utica. They botched that this season. I will say that NJ is paying attention on some level to building the organization based on this past draft where they woke up and loaded up on right defenders with promise while still finding a pick to draft a late round promising forward in Filmon. Utica's defense may be young next year but it could be insanely talented. Now they just need to add a couple of centers and with a year of maturity the young wingers can progress better than this season.

The most frustrating thing to me as a hardcore AHL/Comets fan is to see the parent club fail to give a prospect their best chance for success by taking them to the NHL ahead of their time.

I felt Holtz needed more time here and the pitiful amount of ice time he has seen this season in NJ supports my opinion. I too am very familiar with Brodeur's comment and took it to heart. Hopefully, we see that as more of a commitment than a comment when it comes to Simone.

Subsequently, Teenage Defensemen are opening for The Rouging Minors at the Polo Lounge. Singapore Slings for everyone!

I'm a firm believer that if you can see the flaws and foibles of what is good and bad with the Comets someone somewhere with the parent organization has to see it as well. Whether they choose to accept reality and act on it is a different issue.

From my only eye test, Nemec had a nice WJC, Jiricek had a fantastic WJC. He was a threat almost every shift. But my bigger concern for a D Man is relieving pressure and transitioning....like give all Marino's over all Seversons.

I can see his basic numbers but how is his defensive and transition game coming along? Hows his skating looked? And im curious if he uses his body a lot or a little or in between

Thanks in advance whoever can help!

He looks very good as 2W D on thr pretty bad team. Comets doesn't have good drivers.its effecting his overall numbers.
