That's pretty much what the word means, yeah.

We were hearing about McDavid when he was 14. Crosby was in Sports Illustrated when he was 12. That's generational prospect hype. I hadn't heard about Dahlin until this calendar year, and there hasn't been any more hype surrounding him than Patrick/Yakupov/RNH.

You probably didn't pay close enough attention. He was taking regular shifts for the SHL's best team in his age 16 year, and doing damn well, making a fool of pro players. Was excellent at the WJC's as Sweden's youngest ever player at that tournament, Sweden's youngest National Team player in nearly 60 years. You didn't hear about him because he's from Sweden, instead of North America, which is my point. But we can let this go. I can guarantee you that a lot of teams will be tanking for 1OA in the same way they did for McDavid a few years back. If we are in a position to do so in a few months, I think Gorton will do so, also.

The last part is flat out wrong. Anyone who pays close attention would tell you thats ridiculous.

And hopefully that works about as well as it did for the Edmonton Oilers and the Kansas City Penguins until the NHL fixed drafts for them.

Doesn't Ruff run the defense and work with them? It's really hard to believe the regression shown by McD, Skjei and Smith.
I don`t know what happen with them - is that on AV?
I thought Lindy Ruff was hired to improve the defense, and u mention 3 defenders who are struggling? :)

Funny stuff.

We have posters here who do nothing except knock AV, Staal, Hank, etc. That is not an exaggeration, but if I dare speak a negative word against one of the beloved, I am all negative.

Double standard, anyone?

Just playing with you. You and I are one of the rare one's here who have been thru it all, have been thru quite a few of the dark days and the good times as we've been fans since the early 70's...you might even be older than me now that I think about it.

I just notice that I don't notice you typically even when things are going good, normally post a positive comment or two. It's possible I may have missed them seeing admittedly I'm not on here all the time nor read every post. But for most part, you aren't exactly "Mr. Positivity" or a ray of sunshine.....ya think?...lol

I guarantee you nobody will tank for the first pick because as I've said several times already even if you are the worst team in the league you still have only like a 50% chance to even pick in the top 3. Tanking is a mathematically horrible strategy now. I don't really know what is so complicated to understand about this.

If you argue for blowing it up/tanking you should just go to take a math class instead.

Then we are just going to be stuck in mediocrity. Not good enough to win the Cup, not bad enough to pick at the top of the draft where most of the franchise changing talent is.

Blowing it up would at least signify some sense of direction.

And now we're back to they should have traded players at the deadline who were upcoming UFA's (like Yandle) despite having the best or second best record in the league at the time.

So the NYR shouldn’t trade replaceable players at the TDL?

Had they done that the past few years we would be a significantly better (or at the very least, stocked farm system) than we are now which is 1-5 w a BARREN system.

Misread what you were saying.

Yes, the Rangers should sell what they can realistically replace at the deadline if they continue to perform this way. You're right that they failed to do this at times. Grabner should have been dealt last year when his value was absurd. That wasn't going to make or break our season anyway.

No, the Rangers should not be selling franchise players that they have no replacement for in the organization.

Even if Dahlin is a generational talent, it's beside the point. Us getting him is a huge "maybe." Even if we have the worst record, it's a huge "maybe" with the lottery system.

Many people here seem to be perfectly fine with that.

Just a quick reminder for everyone:
If they didn't get lucky in the lottery, the Oilers would have Dylan "back to the minors" Strome, instead of guy who is pretty clearly going to end up as one of the best to ever play this sport.

Because they understand that getting that pick is mathematically unlikely, and the pick you do get is unlikely to be truly franchise changing, even if it’s 1OA

I honestly can't even tell you what the direction of the team is at this point.

A franchise that believes they are still a contender doesn't trade away their best player at the most important position in the sport, and a position you're already weak at to begin with.

A franchise that knows they aren't a contender starts to prep for the future.

Being stuck in the middle is the worst place to be.

I was backing up your point about Ruff not necessarily being a better coach. The defense is more in shambles than it was under Beuk. Those three are mentioned because they were expected to be solid. Holden, Staal, DeAngelo we knew were going to have troubles. Kampfer is Kampfer. Shattenkirk has been pretty much as advertised.

In case anyone was wondering, the Western Conference champion Nashville Predators were 4-8 through their first 12, and 2-4 through their first 6 last season. This is not a time to panic. Give it time.

Players I have complimented at times are Nash, Fast, Lindberg, Zibanejad, Zuccarello, to name a few.

I have gotten on Kreider because to me he should be a far more productive player than he has been. The Kreider fanboys don't like that.

I like sticking ito PB, because I have found him to be condescending to lots of other posters and because he often accuses posters of being pro- North American and anti-Russian and European, which I think is bullshit.

When you constantly tell me how great a player is and he isn't producing like a great player, I think it's fair to point it out.

We have three or four posters who say something negative about Hank after every single goal.

How many negative posts have you read about Girardi, Staal, Holden etc,.

I have been a fan a long time and the one constant is fans shitting on defensemen.

Forsberg got off to a really slow start and an adjustment period was expected after the biggest trade in franchise history. Can't really compare us to the Predators.
