They may want that, but that type of trade doesn’t get made. You get a low end top 6 players in these trades where a player is forcing their way out, not top end ones.

I think Carolina was insane trading Necas for him to start with.
I don't think this is a normal situation. In fact, it is almost unique. Carolina made the trade to win the SC. Setting aside the wisdom of a trade for a pending UFA, Carolina has essentially three options:
1. Keep Rantanen and have a legit shot at the conference finals and perhaps the SC
2. Trade him for a big return that helps them now. They would remain in contention for the SC.
3. Trade him for an inferior return that does nothing to help them now and probably doesn't help them much in the future.

Option #3 probably has little appeal to them. Option #2 may not be possible but it would be their preferred choice if they find a team willing to pay their price. Option #1 is the fallback but still not a bad outcome. We'll see what happens in the next 22 hours.

There’s no way their Gm risks guentzel 2.0
Again. Their Gm is completely off the hook with trading rats now “ I traded for him, wanting to sign him and to chase a Stanley cup not only this season but for the next bunch of years. I couldn’t risk our future on a guy who didn’t want to be here, the return we got for him will help us going forward and we still want that cup this year” etc… keeping him and not winning a cup+ him walking in the summer puts his job at literal risk

That’s the dream scenario of course. But I’m guessing this is making rattenan feel a little insecure and he would love to be sign and traded now to just get locked up etc and move on.
I thought it was the opposite. Sounded like he wanted to hit the market and I think the Ducks could do well in that scenario

I had a feeling they’d be in on Rakell. He’s had a great season.
I hope the kings get raks. He’s mostly a no show dude. Takes long vacations.

That may still be the case. But he may just want to get traded and signed already. Who knows. It would be amazing to see him go to Dallas/vegas as a pure rental(as long as neither team wins a cup with him) then sign elsewhere this summer.

I don’t argue that’s what Carolina would want, I think it’s an astute assessment.

What I’m saying is that teams simply don’t give up that sort of return, especially when the guy in question is 2G 4A 6P -2 in 12GP since the trade. It just feeds into the thought that he’s not elite, but rather a good player who was elite at playing with McKinnon. Necas is 4G 9A 13P +1 in 13GP since the trade. Terry, as the guy carrying the team too many nights, has been 2G 9A 11P+6 over his last 13.

I don’t want to be the second team in a row to pay premium assets for what’s maybe not actually a premium return.

My assumption is that a trade to the Ducks would only be done for a signed Rantanen. And a signed Rantanen would - IMO - cost premium assets.

Other teams like Dallas or Vegas or Florida may be content to trade for an unsigned Rantanen in which case the price would be lower. But I don’t see a universe where the ducks would do that.

I honestly hope he’s not in the NHL next year, barring the kind of muscle gain that gets you tested for PED’s. He’s going to get wrecked trying some of his dangles against NHL defensemen.

I think Verbeek is gonna do the Luneau program. Weightlift for half a season, get sporadic NHL games, a two to three week "conditioning stint" in the AHL, and then sent back to juniors by December. Possibly join the team Canada WJC-20 this time around. Luneau only played in 7 NHL games. Sennecke could see fewer games than 7.

The Luneau program worked on putting a lot of mass on Luneau because that's all he did and had ample rest. The Carlsson program was sheer bullshit b/c the rest period didn't exist in the weightlifting program.

I would say he’s set for the Leo program

He should realistically be nowhere near the NHL and certainly not in a top 6 role
We will see. Ideally he gets 3rd line duties and cutter gets a bump up next season

I highly doubt Sennecke is going to be an NHL regular next year. Better off just letting him marinate unless he takes some sort of massive physical strides this offseason.
I’m counting on him gaining 10-15 lbs this summer in muscle

I'd like to see him and Luneau tear up the AHL and get them on a serious playoff run. Then Ideally when he gets the promotion it's to a sheltered 3rd line role.

It's kind of tough to leave Luneau in the AHL though, he kind of deserves a promotion.
