Even if he's a slight improvement, we're dealing McDonagh to wait 3-5 years to get our 1D back. That sets us back.

Then the alternative is either losing him for nothing in UFA or extending a 30 year old defensemen to an 8 year contract at $7 million (Vlasic comparable) and probably looking at a Girardi situation 3 years into that deal.

I see this attitude all the time now, especially with what the Yankees are doing.

"Oh look the Yankees rebuilt, and now they're great again!"

The Yankees traded replaceable players for overpayment at the deadline. It wasn't "hey let's trade Tanaka, Sabathia, Gregorius, Gardner, and McCann and lose 100 games!!"

He's not generational.

Every 1st overall since Crosby has been massively overhyped except for McDavid.

He projects as a #1D. He doesn't project as a multi-time Norris winner.
Kane has 3 Stanley Cups, over a 1 PPG for his career, Hart, Calder, Ross, and Smythe. I wouldn't call him overhyped.

We also have to think, maybe this team doesn't know how to develop top prospects when we do manage to get them. I mean, how does this team EVERY TIME we get a high pick, they 99.9 percent end up being busts.

This team hasn't had a top 15 pick since 2010, so our development isn't the problem. The problem is that Sather traded 4 first rounders and mutiple second rounders from 2013-2016 for playoff rentals.

There is no Girardi situation. Girardi sucked when he was 24.

Yes, extend him. We could be f***ing great in four years. Compare this roster to the 13-14 roster. You never know what's going to happen. You don't get rid of franchise players when you already have them for the hope of maybe replacing them.

He's generational, unless there's literally only one generational player every 10 years. And even then, I'll put his game up against McDavid's, I think it stacks up pretty well. Some won't give him that credit because he's not North American. I would be shocked if he doesn't win multiple Norris, we can revisit this in a few years. I might already be right about that. McDonagh is like the 10th-15th best defensemen in the NHL. Dahlin is the most hyped defense prospect since Bobby Orr. He's a big time bust if he's not significantly better than McDonagh.

Our brother Chosen was voted our official "board curmudgeon" or hadn't your heard that PB?

After 12 years of not having said one positive thing about the Ranger team itself or anyone here on the board , it was actually pretty easy for our boy Chosen to win this dubious award....lol.

I kid..i kid so no coronaries Chosen. Once in awhile tho bud, it might not hurt ya if you once in awhile didn't sound so dour or negative...ya think?.....:)
Funny stuff.

We have posters here who do nothing except knock AV, Staal, Hank, etc. That is not an exaggeration, but if I dare speak a negative word against one of the beloved, I am all negative.

Double standard, anyone?

Nothing is working for this team - try 4 different lines, AV - horrific 5 v 5 entire season so far, and for the remaining of October he will shuffle lines for sure.

That's pretty much what the word means, yeah.

We were hearing about McDavid when he was 14. Crosby was in Sports Illustrated when he was 12. That's generational prospect hype. I hadn't heard about Dahlin until this calendar year, and there hasn't been any more hype surrounding him than Patrick/Yakupov/RNH.

They should call up Chytil as well - he has taleent and give him more than 11 minutes to prove he can play hockey.

When the coach loses the players, it's over. It can happen, even with a good coach.

In 2014-15, Jose Mourinho, one of the best managers in the world, coached Chelsea to a comfortable title win in the English Premier League.

In 15-16, he completely lost the team, they spent the majority of the year near the bottom of the league, he got fired, and the interim replacement brought them to a middling position.

In 16-17, a new coach came in, and they easily won the league again.

What stayed consistent during those years? The core of the team. There were a few small changes, but certainly nothing separating a bottom tier team from a title winner.

It's easy to scapegoat coaches and demand a change, but that's because it's a far more realistic solution than getting rid of every player, and it certainly works far better.

That's because Sid and McDavid are Canadian.

MacKinnon was getting the same treatment when he was still a few years away from his draft.

Whether AV is the problem or not (for the record I think he is), firing the coach sends one hell of a message to the team

At age 16, Dahlin was a PPG player in J18 in Sweden.

At age 16, Erik Karlsson was a PPG player in J20 in Sweden.

And Karlsson went 15th.

Problem is that Lindy Ruff is not a better coach.
Exactly. Although we do need another coach, we also need to light a fire under the teams ass. Similar to the Capuano situation last year. The team plays with lots of heart after a coach is fired

When have the NYR EVER done what ur saying here?!?! When?????

You said specifically, "Every 1st overall since Crosby has been massively overhyped except for McDavid."

Ok, arguably not Kane.

And RNH, Yak, MacKinnon, Hall, and even Ryan Murray were all getting the same hype Dahlin is getting. They've all been disappointing to varying degrees.
