How Dave Rogalski still has a job is beyond me. Not a single goaltender has looked NHL level under him. Not a single friggin' one.
I think it’s worth seeing how another NHL goalie plays here, because there weren’t any that had ever been NHL caliber for long term, other than Blackwood and Bernier. Actually, not even Blackwood, as he was only even in the league for two years before he came in. And Bernier was hurt 10 games in.Especially considering all the other assistants got fired last year, but they kept the one guy whose position performed the least efficiently of all. I know maybe they wanted to blame the goalie thing last year on the top two guys getting hurt and everyone else being desperation patches but still.
But guys like Gillies have never had any NHL success. Aaron Dell had such a short shelf life, just like a Keith Kinkaid and it had expired by the time he ever played here. Wedgewood never had NHL success before last season, other than his 4 games in 15-16. And even last year he was merely average and was 29 years old.
Hammond had about year’s worth of success, but had washed out of the league by 2016.
So it probably can’t be confirmed quite yet, but firing Melanson was no good. It was fixing something that wasn’t broken.
Looking like a big fat swing and miss on that one from Marty.
I’ve been saying this since Cory stopped being a good goalie, but I wonder if he ever be interested in coming aboard? I think he could be a good resource here on the goalie committee or even as a goalie coach. He’s still playing pro hockey this year, so it’s a conversation for this off-season at the earliest.
