When you don't clear the zone when you have a chance...(Tatar) when you don't know how to play a 2-on-1 (Severson), when you don't know how to block a shot (Mercer), when you don't know how to cut a pass (Nico+Sharangovich) - you give up opportunities that are FAR more dangerous than just distance or angle are going to account for.


Absolutely. It's culture too. I mean, we want to be a high flying river hockey team - and when our guys are at their best, we probably can be. There were games we outscored teams 6-5 and shit. I'm a believer - except when you have the Flyers or physical teams take away the center of the ice and we cannot get a sniff because no one will go there.

Both very good points. It’s true. Our systems we have in place with the roster we have , is not working. I’m not sure if it will or can work?
I’m going a little overboard with this , but name me one forward group that is as softer and easier to play against than us. I cannot think of one. I’m sick of seeing Tatar cough the puck up because he is scared to take a hit or can’t take a hit and loses the puck or panics and turns it over.
Or see us get hemmed in our own end for almost two minutes because we are too soft on the puck. Or leave guys 100% wide open in the slot for all the time they need.
I can go on and on but I’m tired of stressing out about how much we suck.

No one outside of Vasilevsky or Shesterkin is making a huge difference here so long as the skaters in front of the goalie are a gong show.

It's bad enough this org has zero culture when it comes to holding players accountable for playing careless outside the O-Zone...how is it that they also haven't managed to draft a single above average goalie in more than a decade?

Yeah the history of the Rock hasn't exactly been filled with winners. They've made the playoffs five times in fifteen years in Newark with a grand total of three playoff series wins - ALL in 2012. So one year out of fifteen where they actually did better than 'first round exit'.

fitz needs to do it in the next week and give brunette time to get things going and eat some losses of his own while doing so.

Can’t put AB him in a position like the Nucks did to Bruce B where they just missed the playoffs due to waiting too long to fire a coach and the position they tried crawling out of was too deep.

I think we are kidding ourselves if we expect an unproven guy like Brunette to come in and make significant improvements. Florida last year was not exactly known for the defensive prowess...their success was largely a result of their excellent ability to simply outscore their opponents. If he can pull that off here, then more power to him. But I'm skeptical that this group is anywhere near talented enough to outscore opponents to that extent on a regular basis. They need a balanced system that is simple in the d-zone and relies on counter-attacking off of turnovers. Is Brunette the guy to bring that? I have no idea. He'll just be another question mark until proven otherwise.

I just don't think it's going to hinge on whether or not the goalies perform. If the team gives them a chance, they'll put together a .950SV% over a period of time whether or not they are playing any appreciably better and everyone will point to the great goaltending we are getting.

The team has alot of holes, but it's very capable of winning games against other teams with their own holes.

How Dave Rogalski still has a job is beyond me. Not a single goaltender has looked NHL level under him. Not a single friggin' one.

Especially considering all the other assistants got fired last year, but they kept the one guy whose position performed the least efficiently of all. I know maybe they wanted to blame the goalie thing last year on the top two guys getting hurt and everyone else being desperation patches but still.

Just about every expansion team over the last 3 decades built up a better team than this in less time. Completely ridiculous.

Goaltending is the hot topic the last couple of years, but rarely is there discussion about how it is this org hasn't managed to pluck a decent one from the draft despite being hot ass for a decade.

The talent of these kids we've drafted and developed supposedly lies on the offensive side of things, yet we are two games into a "prove it" season and we've mustered up a whopping 4 goals and our prized center has 0 points. Built a team led by a coach designed to outscore opponents, yet the offensive output is too mediocre to make up for the shit goaltending and D. Naturally this has bene conveniently ignored as we squabble about whether or not the shoddy clown fest in our own zone is contributing to the embarrassing goalie performances.

Because there's no real accountability in the org?
Or they don't know what the f*** they are doing.
