No coach will survive long if their team keeps having epic defensive lapses the way this team has. I’m not sure who is at fault but something is broken . Not sure if it’s Ruff , shitty roster or both or ???
Our D “ should “ be very good . On paper it is very strong … maybe it’s the forwards are shit ? Defensively and weak on the puck doesn’t help matters much either. We play good for 90% of games but the other 10% is giving up glorious scoring chances against and being hemmed in our own zone for too long because we are soft on the puck
I’m done with Tatar . He is useless out there. He is worse than that , he is a detriment to the team

Do we still do the Rangers suck Flyers swallow chant because that is peak moronic.

we have too many fans who would rather do that chant then actually cheer/chant their own team on. big brother syndrome at it's finest.

Honestly this feels a bit like the ‘15 years of lousy football, we’ve had enough!’ snapping point for a fanbase that’s actually been pretty patient (the live audience anyway) till now.

I was actually thinking about that during the game. That was a plane flying over Giants Stadium, right? No consequence for a fan there. Unfortunately being an indoor event, someone would need to take the fall for it by sneaking a banner into the arena.

That and he never got booed once for the vax stuff so it ain’t that, at least not solely. In fact I know a good chunk of our crowd thought more of him for that.
I’ve never judged him for it. I know there’s certain things that people have a paranoia about when it comes to medical stuff. I know people (elderly people at that) that won’t take certain meds because they think the meds will kill them before whatever the meds are supposed to treat will kill them. However irrational that may be. And if he had long covid, he may have had fears that it would counteract or something. It’s hard to know what was going through his head, but I always respected his decision and in the end he had it done anyway and missed no games because of it. I’m much more offended by his on-ice performance than I could be over anything else.

So I have never judged him for that. Do I think it may have caused a rift in the locker room or a distraction, being that he was just only one of two players in the league that didn’t have it done before the start of last season? It might have. But it was never an issue with me personally. It’s all about his play with me and his play has been damn near the absolute worst at the position in the entire league over the last two years and especially the last year.

This guy is the only good thing about this season so far, nice to have a reporter give 0 f***s about annoying our front office full of absolute frauds and used cars salesmen...

What was the response?

Sal said tonight we've got a top 10 defensive group.

Good defense is the responsibility of all five skaters you absolutely can’t just blame the D just because it’s in their title. These forwards can hardly win a puck battle, they routinely make stupid decisions with the puck, zone exits appear improvised with guys flying up the ice without a goddamn care in the world for providing support to the d-men who are left to fend for themselves, to go along with sloppy handling and careless possession at the blue lines constantly resulting in turnovers and inability to clear their own zone. Oh and did I forget to mention how frequently players are floating around in no man’s land while an opposition player hangs out in the slot/circles/front of the net with no devils players within stick’s reach?

My new mantra that I’m going to be constantly repeating is that we have mediocre goalies trying to cover up for gong show play in front of them.

It’s only 2 games. The goalies won’t be this bad every game. There’s got to be some regression to the mean. I understand the frustration cuz I feel it too but can we be a little more measured?
Fair enough. Even Blackwood had a very good isolated game against Columbus in January of last year where he allowed only one goal on 30-something shots. It was the only game in his last 13 regular season starts where he allowed fewer than 3 goals.

I don’t think he’s bouncing back to what he was though. And I’m not sure what Vanecek will be here. He may not be THE guy, but now we’re committed to him for the next 3 years (including this one) so he deserves more rope. God knows we’ve been patient enough with Blackwood.

And we’ll start scoring more than 2 goals a game, but patience is certainly wearing thin.

Tonight might be the loudest we hear of the crowd for a very long time, as the turnout won’t be so good on a Tuesday night game against the Anaheim Ducks.

There was a helicopter on the roof when we left, something I've never seen before. Dream scenario it was Harris or Blitzer coming to fire Ruff lol

LOL two of those garbage goals weren’t even high quality chances…that’s where the it’s all the D crowd and the system loses me. The D and the system has nothing to do with junk like goals #2 and 5!

Goaltenders just want defenders to do what they've been taught. To play deterministically. I'd have been happy to face 50 shots a game if they were all typical chances.

Look at goal 1. Our defensemen and two wings are all screening Vanacek. Where is a forward to get a stick on that shot? It goes through Mercer's legs bc he doesn't know how to block a shot.
Look at goal 2. First, WTF is Severson doing on that 2-on-1. Second - who CARES what HDC says. It's absolute bullshit stat? It is Lucas Raymond and he picks his frigging spot on a 2-on-1 bc Graves coubhs it up.
Look at goal 3. Classic Severson. Don't tie up the puck, don't make the pass. just turn it over. It's a broken play and Vanacek does something stupid with it bc that's about all he could do with it.
Look at goal 4. Vanacek makes a good blocker save, then Nico and Sharangovich are lazy on their check, Siegenthaler and Smith are nowhere to be found, caught out of position.
Look at goal 5. Tatar doesn't make the safe play and instead tries to lob it it Hughes. Everyone is caught out of position and reaching.

It isn't just D. It isn't just system. Like Seattle and Grubauer, we're a frigging expansion team with REALLY young players who make mistakes and don't know how to play. Our team is chaotic and unreliable in all zones. It isn't really obvious. There's a subtle difference playing behind a team that doesn't know how to cut passes, block shots, clear their zone, and NOT turn it over at the blueline. If you guys would frigging shut your bitching for a second and actually think with your heads - you could all see that our team cannot do any of the above well. And they haven't for years. Partially because they have young guys like... well everyone, and partially because they have some vets like Tatar who get scratched in playoff games for shit like goal5.

But we're 9 bad goalies in. I think we should just keep shopping for goalies because then Vasilevsky or Shesterkin could come here and suck too.

I don't love that we are losing but I love the fans response, so happy to finally have others as pissed off as I've been for the last bunch of seasons.
