They failed once with this and they're going to fail miserably again.

Just keep R&R Part 2 and call it a day.

This is so annoying.

The "oi, oi, oi" in TNT or some Pinhead "Gabba Gabba Hey!".

Personally, I really don't care. RRpt.2 was great in its day but I can do with out the "you suck". No offense taken just not necessary. You're still going to get the whistle and the Ranger chant 2-3 times a game, no?

The fans that post here are a very very small minority of the fan base. There are 622 comments on Facebook, about 1000 Tweets - all for RRP2. And this is day one of this.

I've changed my tune. It's going to be fun on Saturday. I'm excited to see what will happen.

It wouldn't shock me if they start cracking down on that at the arena too at the rate it's going (of course being the Devils they'll start ejecting people without warning and really tick off the steerage on the Titanic...it'll be hilarious if they do that Saturday).

And I won't miss that chant, well not the Flyers Swallow and Crosby's watching part of it anyway. But since we're going back to the '50's and suck is now considered a four-letter word too...

A Saturday of a Ranger game, at night, leaving an entire day of drinking to be had by many, factored in with a potentially win-less team and a new goal song which many are unhappy with - could provide for an interesting game to say the least

I don't know whether to be relieved or annoyed I won't be there to witness the trainwreck in person.

I kinda hope it isn't a gong show cause my friend is trying to get his wife into hockey (and he's not the world's biggest hockey fan himself), and they'll be at the game in my seats. But I do feel a bit like 'boy, I want to be a fly on the wall for this' right now too.

If you've got philisophical issues with the team management, arena, etc, beyond the song to the point you won't give the team money - fine. But that's not the way it's coming off - it comes off as the song changing pisses you off so much that it changed your allegiance. That's pretty shallow to most. And if the goal song outweighs everything else in the positive column... well either there was nothing there or the song means too much to you from where I'm standing.

Plus this tradition stuff is pretty weak considering the last time we won a cup with it - from the clips on youtube, the you suck chant wasn't even a part of the song so how you can associate 3 cups without the chant and none with it and it becomes "tradition"... I don't get it.

It's mostly about the song, and how they've handled it, sure. I'll admit that much.

Parise's gone.
Doc's gone.
Chico's likely gone after the year.
Marty's gone soon.
Patty's gone soon.
Who knows how long we have left with Lou.

They're talking about resetting traditions and starting over. I like the Devils that I grew up with. I like what this franchise was, and is. Lou's been GM for as long as I've been a fan, and RRP2 has been the goal song since the team's been in existence. Symbolically, getting rid of the goal song is more change than I'm willing to accept.

Do I like "you suck"? Yes. Is it essential? No. The song is essential. The chant is not. Is it realistic to say "If you keep the song, we'll promise not to chant you suck anymore?" - no.

But for the franchise to say "We don't like your chants, so we're not going to play the song anymore" - screw them. I can see how this is going. No more chicken dance, etc.

They bought the team primarily because they wanted control of the arena. For me to patronize the arena would be to give them what they want. They have declared war on the fanbase. People tried to defend the team and say it was about Glitter being a sex offender, but the emails team reps have sent to fans have made it clear that it's about the chanting of the paying fans, which the new team management doesn't approve of.

Owners come and go. Without the fans, there is no team. So, you don't punish us unless you want us to punish you. The free market at work. Newton's law at work as well.

Vanderbeek was also the ******* who got this team into financial trouble, and who pushed hard for Kovalchuk- that turned out to be a fantastic move!

Vanderbeek's mistakes might haunt the Devils for years to come. Let's also not act like he never took away the song.

Kovalchuk gave this team some sex appeal so to speak. It was a great signing. I blame Lou for thinking he's some kind of hockey god that doesn't have to follow the rules.

The team with Kovy was a playoff team. Maybe even a cup-winning team. We made it to the finals with him. We haven't won a game without him. Blaming Lou and Vanderbeek for bringing him here is silly. The one thing I criticize Lou for is that blatant cap-rigging attempt to keep him here.

His arrival and departure caused more bad than good. It set off a chain of events that cannot be undone. If he did not leave, maybe I wouldn't be as harsh, but the facts are the facts. Kovalchuk's whole involvement caused stupidity from top to the bottom in this organization..

Edit: Lou is also 71 years old and Brodeur is basically finished. Things change.

I'm assuming some tongue-in-cheek here but realistically it's not as profane/derogatory as shouting "you suck," i think it is a legitimate candidate as a compromise to the change.

haha yea i was being sarcastic, its not bad at all....but neither is "you suck"

Oh God not this again. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

"You suck" is not a profane word for the 100000000th time.

Agreed. I could sympathize with them if they were trying just to discourage the use of the "Flyers swallow" chant, but the dilemma we've all found ourselves in is the PC police gone amok. The team has actually said they don't want to hurt opposing fans' feelings as a rationale for the song change.

Its going to be an absolute hoot. There are SO many things that can go wrong throughout that night, its hilarious. Another awful choice of a goal song that leads to the fans booing even more than last time IF we score, a Lundqvist shutout with Ranger fans celebrating in our building, another 3 goal lead blown, another shootout loss, the typical D-Zone clown show starring the usual suspects, "You Suck" chants still be heard audibly throughout the arena, people getting tossed for doing certain chants, the usual drunken fights, etc. The possibilities are really endless

When I'm there, I don't care about opposing fans feelings, and neither do the majority of the other 15,000 people wearing red and black.

The old regime weren't looking out for visiting fans. They actually went out of their way to make sure that Devils fans filled the building instead of Ranger fans. But I guess that's what happens when you get bought out by guys from Philly, and Comcast wasn't looking to sell them their arena or the Flyers.

I have to admit that I am eagerly awaiting this game for all the wrong reasons - most of which you listed above. Fully expecting the fanbase to completely revolt against whatever song is played IF given the opportunity (yes I know, that may be doubtful). Also, in a delightfully ironic twist, there should be a solid increase in both the amount and volume of 'Rangers suck' chants.

This is a perfect storm of the league's sole winless team coming home to a crowd who has just been unnecessarily riled up by the new management. Pretty confident there will be more than enough entertainment throughout the stands to make up for the lack of the same on the ice.

I think most fans would definitely agree with you. Management is blowing a lot of hot air about people that are offended by the RRP2 "you suck" chant, and it's not going to solve their problem by changing the goal song because there are still other chants that will remain. I personally am all for giving stiff resistance to changing the goal song.

But, if we are powerless to keep it, and they are giving us an option on what to replace it with, I think Hell Yeah by Rev Theory is an awesome way to keep the attitude/new jersiness inherent in the you suck chant, remove the tackiness aspect, and sass management at the same time. :yo: I like Howl by Gaslight Anthem too, and I'm glad it's gaining momentum, but imho Hell Yeah is the epitome of what a goal song should be and I'd like to know what some other fans think, so I can make a legit campaign out of it.

Link: http://youtu.be/7LuSP4QaXiQ?t=3m7s , queued to time goal song should start (3:07.)

BTW, nice avatar. Queen Lunny misses his big pads lol. :devdance:
