More emails. Hope you guys don't mind the text wall, but I feel like its pretty relevant as it comes from within the organization.

You mind sharing that guys email address? I want to suggest 1) Playing the horn over "you suck" and 2) Giving the fans a chance to keep the song if the "you suck" stops

IMO.... RRP2(even without "you suck") >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything else

Now if the organization really wanted to stick it to us:

I'd enjoy it if they did that.

This is what our owners are used to in Philadelphia. They deserve the same thousands of empty seats in Newark.

That Gaslight Anthem song is really all im looking for in a goal song. Cut the music before the lyrics start and keep "heeyyyyyy heyyyyy heyyyy" going in the crowd.

PS first post.....sup

I don't think most folks are saying you can't be upset about the change but to let a goal song be the pivot to the decision to boycott the team says a lot about how much a real fan you are of the team.

The players didn't make the decision - management did. You're going to not support your team and go to games and it boils down to a song?

Seems almost as petty as the folks who get offended by the word suck.

By choosing not to attend games at the Rock, I'm protesting the decisions made by the owners and management. It's capitalism 101. If you don't like a business' decisions or policies, you don't buy from them. I feel to complain and not be willing to put your money where your mouth is is more infantile. (But that's just my opinion and I truly don't care if anyone shares it or hates it)

I will still cheer for my team at home---but I won't give them any of my sacred dispensable income. It's a lot easier for me to save money by not spending $80ish on my ticket, food, and beer at the arena when the atmosphere is gone. The whole reason you attend a sporting event is for the euphoria that goes alongside the atmosphere. There was no such euphoria on opening night. And if there's no euphoria on opening night, why the hell would I expect there to be euphoria on some random Tuesday game against Carolina?

How does going to away games amount to not supporting your team? I don't support the new corporate regime that Blitzer and Harris have established in the last few months. They run Prudential Center. So, I won't go to Prudential Center. Not for hockey. Not for WWE. Not for concerts. Not for basketball. I own several Devils jerseys. What motivation do I have to hand them my hard-earned money, when they don't care about you or I? Vanderbeek was one of us. They are not.

I care about the players, and I'll cheer their goals in person. In New York and Pennsylvania.
Vanderbeek was also the ******* who got this team into financial trouble, and who pushed hard for Kovalchuk- that turned out to be a fantastic move!

Vanderbeek's mistakes might haunt the Devils for years to come. Let's also not act like he never took away the song.

If you've got philisophical issues with the team management, arena, etc, beyond the song to the point you won't give the team money - fine. But that's not the way it's coming off - it comes off as the song changing pisses you off so much that it changed your allegiance. That's pretty shallow to most. And if the goal song outweighs everything else in the positive column... well either there was nothing there or the song means too much to you from where I'm standing.

Plus this tradition stuff is pretty weak considering the last time we won a cup with it - from the clips on youtube, the you suck chant wasn't even a part of the song so how you can associate 3 cups without the chant and none with it and it becomes "tradition"... I don't get it.

He's also the only reason they're still in Jersey. He's a mixed bag.

This (and other policies) is just finger off the pulse corporate jibberjabber. Good luck getting families of 4 to spend $10,000 on season tickets, it should go well, especially when they can't sell their tickets because they had to skip out 21 times for various things.

Works for me. Turn up your volume.

I kid

Well this is weird then. Because I've been listening to the sound cloud edits suggested by everyone else in this thread, and I can hear them all. But the 2 songs on Kaoss's page don't have any sound when I play them.

Edit: you son of a lol

Yea I really think Howl has what it takes, as long as it's cut before the lyrics. It's got the guitar lead up to the "hey"s, giving it some sort of build up after the goal song, easily chant-able by the crowd, hard to fit "you suck" in between the heys (even though I like the Hey! You Suck!)...

I think if they edited in something to the end of the "hey"s...like a few "Let's Go Devils" or something else the fans could chant along to, it'd be good. Just to fill out the ~40 seconds needed for the goal song.

As are most owners. Obviously, these guys are pissing people off already, but I'm not going to sit here and act like Vanderbeek was some great owner because he allowed "you suck" to stick.

Questioning my allegiance to the Devils is hilarious. I've been a hardcore Devils fan for the past 20 years since I was 4. It's a matter of sheer economics. I pay to enjoy myself at games. For the first time since 2008 (the last time the Devils did not use RRP2), I had a miserable experience at opening night. It just wasn't fun. If I can't have fun, I'm not surrendering my money. I could just as easily watch from home, especially now that I live in South Jersey.

That's a fair point that it's not a tradition. However, it made the Rock absolutely rocking during our run to the 2012 finals. As such, it should BECOME our tradition---just like the Rangers have "Potvin Sucks" and Montreal has "Ole!".

It's just a poor time for a new ownership to be picking a fight with the fans. Although most won't admit it, most fans were heartbroken by Kovalchuk's departure and miss his electrifying play. So it's a double whammy in terms of excitement loss. You've lost your superstar who was supposed to be the face of your franchise for the next decade---and now you've lost the most deafeningly loud part of a gameday experience.

And ultimately, having been a philosophy minor in college, I can't accept any poorly rationalized argument like the one the press release stated. The use of the word "sucks" pales in comparison to far worse chants at the games that will now happen even more so out of spite. Additionally, hockey is among the most brutally violent sports on the planet. So there's an apparent contradiction in what some parents want to shield their children from. Saying the word "sucks" is terrible! But, let's cheer as the enforcer beats another player bloodily! Woohoo! Make some noise!

Lastly, any business should seek to please its majority customer base. Given the amount of boos on opening night, I think my opinion is that majority (but I certainly cannot prove that).

guyincognito beat me to this, but what he said - Vanderbeek (with a big assist from Chambers) is the main reason there is still a 'New Jersey' before the Devils. I understand he had to go and it is nice we have really rich owners now. However, I definitely appreciated having an owner who was a New Jerseyan long time season ticket holder and viewed the team as more than an investment.

Regarding Kovalchuk, it is completely unreasonable to pin his 'retirement' to Mother Russia on Vanderbeek. The Devils having to forfeit pick this year remains, in my opinion, one of the most arrogant displays of GM hubris ever committed in this league. I love Lou but that was a moronic decision the moment we selected 29th that year.
