This thread reminds me of Youtube and Facebook when they make changes.
Right. Not wanting to give these assclowns my money is infantile, but Drunky McOwner screwing over all of us to appease a few soccer moms is mature. Last I checked, kids don't buy jerseys or season tickets.
I'm still a fan. I'm still going to games. Just not in Newark. I'll see everyone at Yankee Stadium.
Also, as someone who hates Springsteen, that Bruce cover band Gaslight Anthem can rot.
I go to roughly ten games a year, including playoffs. I'm a male, 25-34, have a wife, make a decent living. I am 100% their target demographic and I am truly embarrassed for the entire arena whenever we score a goal. "Rock and Roll Part II" and its accompanying chant is, for starters, uncreative and unoriginal. As for "a few soccer moms", you're delusional. Families account for a large percentage of ticket sales, and thats the primary reason this dumb song is finally gone. Yes, kids don't buy tickets or jerseys, but their parents do. They also buy soda, popcorn, Italian hot dogs, and parking spots. Follow the money, my friend. You won't be missed at any of the home games. I plan on going to more games now, if anything. Good riddance.
I don't want to single you out but this attempt to trivialize the goal song is a very small example of how a lot of fans here have a tendency to seemingly disregard the merits of an opposing (maybe unfamiliar?) viewpoint. I'll reiterate, again, that I'm somewhere in the middle. While I'm very upset with the way the Devils are handling the situation, I'm ok with the change as long as we get something good that we can chant to - so I'm not coming from any sort of bias when I say this.
Calling someone who doesn't see the world like you do "a crying baby" is pretty childish in its own right. And I hate to single you out, you're a great poster and make great points but I wish you would - at the very least - acknowledge that people can feel strongly about things you feel are insignificant. And just because you feel these things are insignificant (or maybe insignificant is a bad word, maybe trivial or unimportant) doesn't mean these things really are insignificant.
Not going certainly sends a powerful message. But booing the goal song repeatedly sends a very powerful message as well. It shows that the nonsensical excuse that a majority of the fanbase doesn't like the goal song is ********. This wont ignite a "fan civil war." The split is very much 80/20 at the very best. It's likely more than that.
Oh it happens in college all the time. It's happened in football too. It happens a lot with these "traditions" and not so much with money because, believe it or not, fans really do get into these traditions. I read the facebook comments for laughs last night and some of the comments really showed the connection some of these fans have with the song. Chanting it when they were 3, associating the song with Cup wins or even most recently the Henrique goal - these moments are made a bit more special (to some) by that song.
Look - we're still a very young franchise. We're just now seeing a growth in our fanbase (necessary growth). You give the fans what they want. Are we immature as a whole? Maybe. But that's what happens when you build a fanbase in New Jersey in 2013. The kids going to the games now pay the bills a lot more than you or anyone else. And they will pay the bills going forward. It's bad business to pull the song period. Pull it when it's closer to a 50/50 split.
No tradition will be a tradition that 100% of the fans are proud of. One of the reasons I'm not 100% for a new song is the tall task of starting a new one. It sets the franchise back 20 years.
I rather have our "sophmoric" goal song and have it be something that stands the test of time. Have it be something that I can tell my grandkids I chanted X number of years ago.
This is what's going to ruin the vote. Gaslight Anthem is retweeting people saying "I don't even know what sport the Devils play, but I'm voting for Gaslight Anthem." It's just going to be a bunch of fanboys for a mediocre band ruining our goal song. This is why we can't have nice things.
On a side note, "Howl" sounds like a mid-90's Goo Goo Dolls song that a depressed teenager would listen to. I get that he says "hey" 50 times in a minute, but the song has no energy.
The gaslight anthem stuff is incredibly weak, but I don't care anymore. They can play Britney Spears after a goal at this point, and it wouldn't phase me.
this has been beat to ****.
Yea, the song has no energy, unlike the incredible energy in the ACTUAL RRp2 song? (not the goal song version of it)
And lol @ "mediocre band"
Is there a list of songs to choose from?
Was hoping this thread would help create one, but that hasn't happened.
Reddit is voting for Howl so theres a chance it will be one of the final 3
probably a good thing. with no organized effort, some randomass songs will get into the finals by like 2-3 votes

Na Na Na Na is still one of my favorites on here. Simple, but still rocks.
Hearing Howl with the horn let it jump up a few spots. Considering its a local band, I can see that growing on me.
Hell Yeah sounds really good.
We should use this as the first list and start a poll on here.
Actually thinking about it more. I really liked Hell Yeah
They won't use Hell Yeah because it has the word "hell." And I'm being completely serious.
