Why do we believe that Seattle's #5 D in TOI, will work with as a top pairing with Rielly?

It is similar to schenn, very simple game, good along walls and short quick defensive plays and great compete. Borgen played himself into a long term plan for them imo last half of the season into the playoffs.

It's hard to say because they are most certainly not done there. I'd be shocked if they went into October with these 7D. Whoever they get will likely change the roles and depth accordingly. The whole defensive core does miss another element of toughness and physicality after McCabe.

I think Klingberg replaces the Sandin role of adding a player that you probably want to play in softer minutes but that hopefully can give you a lot of offense in those minutes. The big X factor is if he can find his game that he had with Dallas a few years ago... he was not that bad defensively.

I don't think the Leafs really replaced Holls role right now. For me, Liljegren gets an increased role and he's the one that gets elevated to play with McCabe. He skates well, he's got skill and can make plays at both ends of the ice.

Klingberg played primarily with lindell who has always been underrated .. lindell cleaned up after him

I don’t think we can sign anybody over a buriable cap hit, until suck time as we sort out the Matty and Nylander situation, not to mention Murray. It’s a hold until we do.

If they trade one of Nylander / Matthews, otherwise they have no impact on signing someone.

It's really Murray and Samsonov who have to be sorted out.

The cost of Murray being moved is what's in the box.

I’d say…
Nylander to Nashville for
Trenin + Fabbro + Askarov

Or

Nylander +Liljegren + Timmins to Calgary for
Lindholm + Hanafin + Zadorov

Nylander would come with an extension, as would Lindholm and Hanafin

Your Calgary - Toronto deal just needs tweaking.

Take out Timmins and Hanafin.

Nylander - Liljegren
Lindholm - Zadorov

Look for extensions or just do 7 year extensions after the trade.

They do though. It gives them the long term numbers that they are working with, so that they know who they could afford to bring in, given their contract.

No, Dvorak is just not good enough

Its like bringing back puljujarvi with aho and try to recreate the laine-aho-puljujarvi line... that didn't work and will not give better result with Dvorak

If I'm trading Willy to Detroit I need Lucas Raymond back as the starter. You cannot go into next year with Jarnkrok/Lafferty/Reaves as 3/4 of your RW group.

You basically give up 80 point Nylander now for a guy that will likely get there within the next few seasons.

Very similar to the last contract dispute. They were 1M or so apart and met in the middle at the last second --- what people said to do from the start.

But his agent has a long track record of long dragged out negotiations.

Zadorov's name has been brought up.

His size and physicality would definitely be a nice add to our blueline but what is his skating ability like? Can he be an effective 3rd pairing LHD?
