It really sucks if we do infact trade Nylander but it feels like this is something that has been decided for awhile in that if we did reach a point where the core needed to be broken up, he was always unfortunately going to be the one jettisoned.

He has recieved a ton of negativity in the media and by some of the fanbase but he's never really complained and just kept getting better.
He has not ''kept getting better''.

He's still the selfish, points-only player he always was.
Nylander is above average on offence as a winger, that's it.

He's nowhere near a complete PLAYER.

I’m having a hard time figuring a trade out with Nylander. He plays a key second line role in driving offense and there isn’t an internal option to step in at RW that could come close to that production.

If I’m moving him I’d look to be bringing in a RW that can be strong two ways and score 20 goals at least. This on top of other assets

I keep thinking Nsh for Nylander, they are solid defensively and need scoring. Something like Fabbro and Kemell for Nylander

I just hope Trev gets the best overall package to maximize value. In ok with futures for Nylander. Those assets can be used to a replacement or down the line.

In the interim there are some stopgap options in UFA: Kane, Tatar, or Bailey
It seems to be dragged out atm tbh... I don't think we'll see anymore signings until trade front is fixed.

Nylander + Brodie for Bjorkstrand (20 goals), Larsson (physical, big, RHD capable of top pair minutes), Wright + 1st.

Brodie and Bjorkstrand are about equal, maybe favouring Seattle, Larsson, Wright, 1st is about the expected for Nylander I’d guess.

Helps with our cap, gets us a top D, 2nd line RW, future potential 2C who can be mentored by Tavares/Matthews and a first round pick.

Seems to hit all of the needs, and Seattle gets their impact player.

Lindholm would be an excellent target for a Nylander trade, imo. With the recent additions being notably weak in their defensive game, having an excellent two way center would be a real important addition. If we can get Zadorov in that trade, then I would be super excited!

By trading for Lindholm, we could move JT down to the 3C spot. I know, having an $11M player playing on the 3rd line is crazy, but it would really strengthen our top 9. You could have Bertuzzi playing with Matthews, Domi playing with Lindholm and Knies playing with JT.

Just try tontell me whats nylander doing than those player not?

Fiala stats 2 year before is signing
5v5: goal/60 and 2,68 pts
Pp :1,28 ppg/60 6,23 p/60

5v5: 1,07 g/60 and 2,37 pts/60
Pp : 2,45 ppg and 6,58 ppp

Did he deserve 2M over fiala because he played pratically 2X time fiala played in pp along side 2 of 10 best offensive player. Did he really deserve a higher salary for the only reason he was producing more when he was playing with matthews and marner during his 3,14 minutes/ game in pp? Because its exactly what it is

You can do the same exact thing with Bratt
now tell me how that compares to the playoffs and if fiala and bratt can carry their own damn line. They can't.

Oh in the playoffs, there PPG is 0.55, 0.54 and 0.80. You can call small sample size all you want but the fact of the matter is william nylander brings it when it matters and you're losing a 40 goal player. Fiala is also injury prone and his career high of 33 goals has been eclipsed by william twice.

At least with bratt you can say hes younger and he might be better than william fine. But Fiala? Very poor example.

It's easier to target a futures package to me. Get a ton of future potential value and then evaluate the market to replace him with a cheaper alternative, or acquire a defensive upgrade, or whatever fits the narrative.

I've said it a lot but Seattle has a lot of prospects and young players, and an itchy finger to get a top end player. I really do think they want to emulate Vegas and get aggressive. They are also very into analytics, so someone like Nylander would probably stand out greatly to them. And Seattle is far away from Toronto so we don't have to deal with Nylander torching us 4-6 times a year.

Keep Nylander. Hopefully at no more than around 9M. Make it work for a year until Tavares is up, where JT either takes a massive discount or is gone from the books entirely. We can figure out the cap squeeze for one season.

Another pending UFA looking for a big raise in a years time. And he's a LHD. No thanks.

And rumor is that he specifically asked to be traded to the US

If I’m moving Nylander to Calgary I’m hoping it starts with Hanafin. We need better too 4 D.

Hanafin is not the defenceman you think he is. He can be very underwhelming at times

Nylander is a 40 goal scorer wanting 10 million. While 40 goal scorers team wants but only handful of teams can fit that in 10 million

Lindholm is a very good return option. If we can lock him to 5-8 year contract then teams like Calgary, Winnipeg will be an appeal. Since they have problem retaining players

And nylander should carry his own line in playoff ? He had 1 goal at 5v5, 2 primary assist and 3 secondary assist in his last 18 game

And do you realise than the difference between 40 season high by nylander and 33 season high by fiala its the 2 3v3 nylander goal over fiala and his 73 of pp time over where he scored 4 goal over fiala just resulting of a supplemental pp time.

The fact leafs used nylander more than anybody else on pp in toronto and played 1 minute over fiala of pp by game + fact he scored more 3v3 goal... thats what justify a difference of 2M? Are you really serious

If you went with something like Bjorkstrand, Larsson and Wright + 2024 first for Nylander and Brodie, the cap would be fine... and I appreciate the comparison to the Hall/Larsson trade.. but we'd be getting back more of course.

I personally don't think Wright is going to end up a #1C, but I do believe he's going to be a #2C, and would have the benefit of developing with Tavares and Matthews mentoring him, in a relatively sheltered role.
Wright needs a coach that’s going to make him earn his minutes. I don’t think that’s Keefe.
