New GM Trades and Signings Part 2

Yeah for sure.. they'll probably use him in flex though. Think late in games when the bench needs to get short and have Jarnkrok or Lafferty, maybe Holmberg, as guys who could take a shift here and there in games.

Robertson-Domi-Jarnkrok might work ok.

Really depends on how Knies and Bert gel with the top 6.

Kerf was good on the PK, but was he really effective defensively 5 v 5? Especially in the playoffs, he looks bad in our end imo, hustle but nothing comes out of it, especially pucks along the wall. Domi will have a different role too.
 
Curious on your teams cap situation.

As per Capfriendly looks like you guys have 600K in cap space factoring in LTIR.

This includes 12 F 6 D 2 G

With Domi still to be added and Samsonov without his next contract.

What do you guys think the leafs will do? I am a sens fan so should I be hopeful the Leafs are going to buyout Murray or are they going to explore trade? A Murray buyout will add 4M in space this year.

That would be a nightmare line defensively. Domi and Robertson both have to be insulated. Signing Klingberg made it so we won’t have a single safe shutdown pair so we need to cover any defensively weak players up front.

Most likely needs to be a Murray trade. Buyout wouldn’t give them enough cap space.

.. I can't see Reaves being in as a regular on the fourth line if Kampf if used in a checking line scenario though.

Sounds like a Murray trade to somewhere is the likely move. Maybe he goes on LTIR, although he said he was healthy at the end of year interviews. Not much is clear right now.

There might be a Nylander trade at some point if his extension talks don't go well.

They probably trade him with a sweetener.
I don’t see the team wanting the cap penalty next season when Matthews extension kicks in

I think Domi only works if we are moving out a sizable contract. I know we might be able to fit Domi in if/when we dump Murray, but it will be with a 20 man roster and the defence still lacking a bit.

To me, Willy is moved D man (Pesce? Parayko?) or for picks and prospects so we can sign a D man (Dumba?).

In this scenario we are moving Nylander for a Dman, Domi and cap space...probably a little more actually.

Nylander for Pesce (+ something from CAR to even it up)
Murray and Hirvonen for SJ Future Considerations (maybe we toss in a bit more)
Domi 1 * 2.5M
Toews 1 * 1M

Can anyone explain why the Leafs are giving away Nylander?

Look at the Dubois and Timo Meier trades for his value.

There's also the chance for something unexpected. Like a Jarnkrok trade for example

Yes but they can’t trade Matthews now. Full no movement clause. They can ONLY trade Nylander and that’s to 22 teams on his list.

They're all about culture etc, would Trotz want one of his favorites back in Jarnkrok?

2 3rds or a 3rd and a 4th? They honestly have a glaring hole at 3rd line that he could fill for them at a reasonable cost.

For Leafs cap situation they could always look to bring a 3rd party in to help

Maybe call up Hawks to retain on Nylander to help Leafs fit him on contender (Before his extension) to maximize value in trade or to retain on piece going back to Leafs (Who only has 1 yr left on current deal) while Hawks also take on Murray

Hawks can also take Muzzin + Murray off Leafs hands

Should merit Hawks a good asset or two back if they helpe out Leafs here
