Ok, I'd give Treliving a B- today.
Kerfoot gone, yay
Holl gone, yay
Schenn gone, meh
ROR gone, meh
Bunting gone, meh
(the meh indicates they were all grossly overpaid in free agency, got too much term, too old, etc.)
Klingberg is only a one year deal, he may work out, who knows. Neutral, probably ok.
The negatives:
Kampf, too long and too much
Reaves, totally inexplicable.

Even though neither of Kampf or Reaves makes sense, they are not cap killing, Kampf is an overpay but not huge, Reaves can almost be totaly buried in the minors.

Can you imagine signing Engvall to a 7 year deal? or Kerfoot 2 times 3.5?
Or that genius Yzerman signing Holl to a 3 year deal at 3.4? Almost as good as his Chariot signing. What on earth is he thinking?

For all of the moans and missed opportunities, much of the free agency concerns come from GM's killing their teams with really bad contracts.

We haven't.

The real grading will come with the Matthews and Nylander signings, or lack thereof.

People discount that Toronto is not the top location for a player like Acciari who is American, and ROR can beef all he wants, but I am sure him wanting to escape the spotlight in Toronto and just take it easy and retire with diminished capacity in Nashville drew him away.
I disagree. Some good FA's were available and Treveling didn't do anything. The team isn't any better as of now. The contracts handed out weren't even that bad. Alot of them quite good. I've watched a lot of hockey these last 7 years and this offseason is making not want to watch naything this upcoming season.

Not taking care of Murray and Samsonov kinda makes things muddy for sure.

If we read between the lines, seems like defensively the Leafs are likely done but they really need to add scoring. Whether it's 1 big scorer or a few depth scorers, we'll see.
So Tre wanting to make the D heavier and harder to play against is replacing Holl and Schenn with Klingberg ?? I hope you are wrong and he is not done defensively.

Isn't Patrick Kane a FA?

what's his asking price for 1 year deal?
A friend who is a Hawks fan says he needs surgery.

I really can't see how you sign him to a 2.5 year a contract when we are paying Kampf 2.4
Rod has had 19 goals the year before and 16 this year with 40 points

That's 4x the output of Kampf. I am sure his agent will remind anyone on the Leafs brass of that

I would love for that to happen, signign him to a 3 year deal for 2.5. But he's 29(30 in july) , he's looking for a last good contract.

I can easily see Tampa taking a fly on him after losing Killron and Colton

Yea but you want money...or some times guys get tired of moving.

I would give him 3x3 or 3 years 2.5-2.75M

Feels like we need another LD if we're going to do something like...

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Klingberg
Gio-Liljegren
Timmins

I'd want to upgrade on Gio so he's 7D and Timmins at 1.1 is even too expensive for us as a 7 with this cap structure. Timmins could even be apart of a package to entice a team to take on Murray.

Not sure, he might be ready Nov-Dec and once he's healthy might sign with someone he thinks could go deep, doubtful he'd sign now but if he wanted to sign today and get access to our healthcare etc, I'd go 1 year 2M and throw him on LTIR but honestly see him sitting out for a bit.

"The Leafs aren’t done shopping yet.

As of late Saturday night, they were showing interest in forward Max Domi.
The son of long-time Leaf Tie Domi is coming off a solid season with 20 goals and 56 points but had seen the market shift away from him.

They were also among the teams engaging with Tyler Bertuzzi, although sources felt he was most likely to land somewhere else."

Bertuzzi almost certainly will sign with an American team IMO.

He might do a trade to address that further but from free agency they are likely done. There isn't much out there anyway right now.

There's plenty of good forwards to add scoring

The two names I'm surprise that Treliving didn't get are Soucy and Hathaway. Both are Treliving type of players and are the players we need. They both chose non-playoff contending team over Toronto. I would have chosen both of their contract over Klingberg.

I wonder did Treliving not have any interest in them or did they both chose non-playoff contending team over Toronto.

so, so far we've lost 76 goals of our roster and replaced it 15 so far.... thats 61 goals short. Even if u wanna pencil in Knies and Robertson for around 30 (maybe that's modest) that still leaves us 31 goals short from last year. There's gotta be more moves to make yet, can't see the Tam rolling out with the forward core they got right now.
Matthews will score 40 goals again with a busted wrist?

Makes sense why the Leafs have been linked to Domi more in the last 12h. He'd be a good Bunting replacement probably... fills the rat quota and can chip in.

He'd need to be an ROR replacement.

We can't be in the market for expensive offensive wingers. We don't need one that bad, and there are cheaper alternatives.

He is arguably the only guy available to be a center.

Want nothing to do with Bertuzzi the melon head. Domi at the right price is a decent replacement for Bunting.

The team is worse today, how anyone can give us anything about an F is scary. I blame Tre, but man of man Dubas sure left a complete mess, the apex of his mistakes coming to roost. Murray is an albatross, we have zero wiggle room, the farm is empty and we had no picks.

Still time, but this isn’t a cup contender anymore, not a serious one anyways. Now brace ourselves for overpays on our two spoiled UFA’s.

I honestly don’t like this team right now, it’s the bizarre allegiance to the crest that keeps semi invested atm.

Ferraro said our D was not SC worthy on his podcast with Dreger. Is our D better today than it was after losing to Florida ? Maybe, maybe not, but it is far from SC worthy.

I dunno but it's the same D except that you change Holl to Klingberg, and the Leafs were great defensively. You also have McCabe for the entire season.

Also, I'd bet a ton of money that there's no way Ray Ferarro thinks Florida's defensive core at the start of the playoffs, or even at the start of the season, was worthy of the SCF.

I think Keefe returning is what drove ROR away, especially if you go by his words after the Leafs were eliminated by Florida.

You give up your 1st+ to bring in a SC winner and leader and in his exit interview he voices concerns about the coach and you ignore him and rehire the coach. If that is truly the case, it is concerning.

There are still quite a few options out there, even if we strike out on Bertuzzi. It's going to be tough to fit him in but it can work.

I wouldn't rush to sign Domi either. I think he wants the Leafs with term but I definitely don't over term/spend on him here.

I am still shocked we weren't able to sign Garnet Hathaway. He seemed like a good fit based on quite a few things.
How do you see Bertuzzi fitting in $ and term ?

Leafs currently have less than <$500k in free cap, the Murray contract is still on the books with most if not all of the proceeds going to re-sign Samsonov, so the only potential wiggle room the Leafs have is the potential Jake Muzzin LTIR.

Excluding Domi and assuming Bertuzzi won't come here, I wouldn't mind signing Rodrigues if we can get him for cheap on a 1 year deal like he has previously.

Other potential bargain candidates I would be interested in for our bottom 6:

- Andreas Johnson (has had a lot of injuries last few seasons, but still think he could be serviceable for our bottom 6, has a decent shot)
- Toews if he comes cheap
- Pius Suter
- Danton Heinen
- Maxime Comtois

Apparently Calgary is looking to clear some cap of sign up FAs. If we can offload Murray somewhere, maybe a deal can be made with them to bring Zadarov in for cheap as well.

Bertuzzi will get $6+ for sure.

Well first off I don't expect Murray to stick around, not sure if they can clear his full contract but I'd expect a portion of it gone in some way. Leafs currently have 6M of cap space with Muzzin's LTIR contract.

If the Leafs were in on Bertuzzi, they probably have a good idea to be able to fit him in and then re-sign Samsonov as well, which I suspect will be around 3M or so.

It doesn't sound like Bertuzzi will be signing with the Leafs anymore though so it's all moot.

How do we know we werent in on this player?
Maybe players didn’t want to

We gotta get on these 1 year prove it deal for next 2 seasons until tavares deals dies

With our team guys coming here will get allot of points and earn contract in regular season

Must be a reason why dumba, tarasenko aren’t signed yet? 1 year deal, cap goes up allot next year
Win win

Only thing I truly want this year is Murray out and hallabuyck in
