They got significantly worse today.
Welcome to reality of the Salary Hard Cap.

Leafs resigned their #3C checking/PK center Kampf for $2.4 mil, brought in a tough 4th liner for $1.3 mil and added a RHD puckmoving Jon Klingberg for 1 year at $4.15 mil,

Those 3 moves alone moved the Leafs to 6th in free cap space with only $443,550 left & Jake Muzzin potential LTIR space. Leafs are still not 100% certain on IF Muzz will qualify for LTIR until training camp and he fails his physical.

Still need to re-sign Samsonov Leafs #1G.

All the departures could not be prevented as there was no cap space to keep them, nor force them to stay for less $ if they're wanted to leave.

Bro go cry in the corner or something. There’s always a few that will cry over everything. The team will be fine next year.

Brilliant response, as always when presented with facts.

I'm sorry I don't blindly d*ck ride the team while they're clearly getting substantially worse directly in front of the eyes of everyone with half a brain in their skull.

The Leafs already had major issues, the vast majority of which became significantly worse today, point blank.

Here is a reminder of what happened last year under the former GM between now and start of training camp.

This came after trading for Matt Murray prior to free agency began.

Ilya Samsonov (1 Year, $1.8 Million AAV)
Jordie Benn (1 Year, $750,000 AAV)
Victor Mete (1 Year, $750,000 AAV)
Nicolas Aube-Kubel (1 Year, $1 Million AAV)
Adam Gaudette (1 Year, $750,000 AAV)
Denis Malgin (1 Year, $750,000 AAV)

Then a few weeks later

Calle Jarnkrok (4 Years, $2.1 Million AAV)
& PTO camp signing
Zach Aston-Reese (1 Year, $840,000 AAV)

That is a recap of last years July 1st until opening seasons transactions that included Mrazek and Campbell OUT and Murray and Samsonov IN.

What about all those AHL guys who some said should've got a legit shot last year? The guys who would've been better than guys like Lafferty and Acciari and would've made us faster ad younger. We literally signed 1 4th line player and brought back Kampf and have open spots for all those guys now, so I really don't see how our depth scoring is much worse. Still got almost 6 mil in cap since Muzzin probably isn't playing again. Samsonov probably gonna get the money we get from moving Murray out. Bertuzzi seems to be the most rumoured to us still at this point and even Domi. Bertuzzi helps the top 6 and Domi would help depth scoring depending which one we get, unless we somehow get both.

Bunting
Kerfoot
O'Reilly
Acciari
Holl
Schenn

That's a lot of NHL pieces gone from the playoff team. And even that team got manhandled so it was already average.

Yes, we can argue about the quality of those depth pieces (i.e. Holl/Kerfoot) but they are still losses when the replacements are rookies or Reeves. Adding a Bertuzzi or a Klingberg is not enough.

I don't see any reasonable changes that can be made here to get out of the situation Treliving is in. He's kidding himself if he thinks a few changes around the edges will get the Leafs deeper into the playoffs.

Who are you sad to see leave?

I'm not losing sleep over any of them ... at all.

We'll never know what we got in those rookies if we never play them. What did that depth scoring do in the playoffs scoring wise btw? People complained because we couldn't score more than 2 goals for like what? 7 games straight? People think we're gonna miss that depth scoring? Really?

Pretty sure the next add is a Bertuzzi level.

He saw we have a fake enforcer. Signed Reaves.

Saw how pathetic defence transition is that dubas left him. Signed Klingberg.

Saw how vanilla the team is overall and bigger moves take more time to make (Reaves (quick) < Berg(later in day) < Bertuzzi (must have 16 teams on him, will take longer) etc

No cap for both Bertuzzi and Samsonov

And for the record, Klingberg is not a transition D...at all. His points don't come off the rush. Should have kept Gustafsson for 1/5 the cap hit, because he was good in transition....and a better defender.

The fact that they have zero depth scoring now.
We didn't get it last year either. After all the moves people were getting upset with Dubas because they said he made us worse offensively in the bottom 6. I didn't mind the moves because I want us to be a more physical team but I also want us to be a faster team who finishes checks and competes. We went like 7 games in the playoffs with only 2 goals so that depth scoring we just lost wasn't here so I'm not torn on losing that and starting fresh.

Is this surprising to you? lol

We have *unproven depth scoring options but its not zero.

The main two guys will be Robertson and Knies stepping in. Both unproven but have offensive track records. If both are healthy they may be able to replace what Kerfoot brought. I think both will adjust and provide scoring. Only place we are truly weak is at the 3C spot. We probably need to find someone to step into that spot.

Wait are you pretending to be a dubas fan now?

Why is that a bad thing though? At some point we were going to have graduate them. The time is now. Both can be full time NHLers.
Oh, having Knies and Robertson isn't a bad thing. They are good prospects and should be good NHLers for us. But it would have been nice if, instead of overpaying 4th liners and Klingberg, we could have added one of the many available pieces with some scoring touch, so that it didn't fall on our rookies to immediately replace everything that's been lost. For years, we've found a bunch of cheap, effective depth pieces, but we were missing those ELCs that good teams tend to have, because Lou drained the prospect pool and never re-filled it, and then we had things like our top prospect get cancer. Now, we're finally seeing ELC depth our of our more recent drafts, and we switch to a GM who can't find cheap, effective depth elsewhere... God forbid we actually have both for once.

Not sure who you're referring to, that's going to be immediately better than our depth from last year.

Luostarinnen for Liljegren

Would you, who says no?

Leafs, easily. Luostarinen is a decent enough winger, but we do not need wingers or we can find them easily enough in free agency.

We can't find a Liljegren replacement in free agency.

No I think he's pointing out all our day 1 signings were a failure while our better signings were later on. Went 1 for 6 on Day 1 signings is what I think he's saying or that they were mostly AHL signings.

I'm not sure, I think he can be moved to the middle that's why he's appealing.
