When you have players that are asking for AAVs as much as Nylander and Matthews, we need young players to setup. So.... might as well give it a try. I'd rather throw Minten in and hope for the best, than some veteran that will make the team slightly better, but no where near a cup contender. But saying all that, Nylander, Matthews, Marner needs to carry their own lines and dominate, given their cap hit.

It's just not realistic. Minten isn't even a high end WHL player, and you think it's feasible to throw him straight into a Centre role in the NHL? I agree the greed of our players is limiting us, but throwing non-NHL players into a role just for the hell of it doesn't make any sense either.

I don't think Tre did as bad as people think. If Reeves' contract can be buried after a year or 2 then all good. Klingberg is a risk but he is the point shot you need on the PP and it showed in the playoffs. The PP couldn't get going as teams knew how to defend them as they played them every 2nd night vs a new team rolling in without huge advance scouting.

Kampf got a 900k raise so sure maybe a lot for on paper is a 4C but he plays more than a 4C.

He didn't do crazy things like Dubas and Lou did today both GM who people built statues for.

Right now to me for the next 2 years, you fill in the roster with what you can then once the Tavares deal is off the books then you can build properly around 34, 16, and 88 if they are all still here.

Actually don't mind the start. There are still a few decent fillers left out there and hopefully the prices come down a bit and maybe snag a deal or 2 in the next few days.

Let's look at our own division and who really got better? The Bruins should be worse next year if Bergeron and Kreijc are both retired. Tampa is worse off than last year. Florida wasn't really good and goalied there way to the cup finals. Buffalo with adding Connor Clifton and Erik Johnson did they vault ahead of us? Ottawa is Korpisallo the guy to move them ahead of us? MTL is still behind us. Detroit any better?

So at worse we are still top 3 in the division and if the core 4 produce again very well might be the division winner.

Compare the rosters excluding the Trade Deadline UFAs. It's not realistic to include them.

So a moderate downgrade instead of an extreme downgrade on the team that got mopped by the Panthers, who got steamrolled as bad as any team in the SCF in recent memory?

Who the f*** is playing forward for this team? McMann, Steeves? We're a mess.

Ultimately, I'm hoping this is just the first part of a two-part plan. Management could potentially have a few trades up their sleeve in the days to come. Not even talking about Nylander, but they could move out Murray for example and then opt to pick up a couple new players. Maybe trade Timmins for someone ect
It looks like they have no clue what part 2 will be

If you’re referring to the UFA players that left, that was all set up before the current GM was hired.
It's all on the current GM for not resigning. Your feelings aren't facts.

As of right now, this team's depth just got decimated and that depth was already subpar.

I don't know how he's going to fix this but I have a strong sense we're looking at a two-year downswing here until Tavares is done. A few changes around the edges is not going to cut it since the team is an even worse situation now than it was a week ago.

Bro go cry in the corner or something. There’s always a few that will cry over everything. The team will be fine next year.

We can realistically work out a move to Tavares off the books and resigned next summer. Using an August buyout window, his bonus will already be paid and he can be moved to a team looking for dead cap. 10M hit for 1 season at like hardly no real cash. We can then resign him at a more reasonable deal on a term that works for both parties.

I'd run something along the lines of this:

Matthew Knies - Auston Matthews - Mitchell Marner
Max Domi - John Tavares - William Nylander
Maxime Comtois - Pontus Holmberg - Calle Jarnkrok
Sam Lafferty - David Kampf - Ryan Reaves
Mason Shaw

Morgan Rielly - TJ Brodie
Jake Mccabe - John Klingberg
Mark Giordano - Timothy Liljegren
Conor Timmins

Ilya Samsonov
Joseph Woll

------------------------------------------------------

Nick Robertson - Semyon Der Arguchintsev - Zach Sanford
Nick Abruzzese- Roni Hirvonen - Bobby McMann
Alex Steeves - Ryan Tverberg - Ty Voit
Kyle Clifford - Grant Cruikshank (AHL Deal) - Max Ellis/Dmitri Ovchinnikov
Marc Johnstone

William Lagesson - Topi Niemela
Marshall Rifai - Maxime Lajoie
Mikko Kokkonen - William Villeneuve
Johnny Tychonick

Dennis Hildeby
Keith Petruzzelli
Luke Cavallini (AHL deal)

Dump Murray -) Murray + 3rd or whatever it costs to Anaheim for nothing.

By dumping Murray we have close to 11 mill...

Re-Sign Samsonov - He's clearly our best option at this point, had a great season | Estimated Cost - 4mill similar to Korpisalo
Sign Max Domi - A guy who just put up 56 points. He's explosive, fiesty, tough to play against. | Estimated Cost - 3.5/4 mill on a short term deal
Sign Maxime Comtois - A 6'2 forward with skill who can skate. While he has struggled to find his stride, this past year I think he's a good bet to rebound. | Estimated Cost 1.5 Mill
Sign Mason Shaw - smaller competitive guy. Great puck skills, strong on his feet despite his size. Good guy to take a flyer on. | Cost - 1Mill
Sign Zach Sanford - A 6'4 frame, who plays with energy. Could easily fill in as a call up.
Re-Sign Nick Abruzzese and SDA.

I’ve seen a lot of concern over the last few pages about Tavares. I think this is a 1 year issue.

Next offseason during the August buyout period we can move Tavares to a team who is looking for dead cap. They will have approx. a 10M cap hit for the season with hardly any cash owing and a 300k cap hit the season after.

We can then resign Tavares at a much lower rate. Win-win as far as I am concerned.

This time we're actually lacking it, instead of people just saying that we lack it. Looks like we're going to have to rely on Knies and Robertson for it.

Why is that a bad thing though? At some point we were going to have graduate them. The time is now. Both can be full time NHLers.

JT says I’m not leaving. Your plan isn’t realistic.

bunting, kerfoot, holl out

reaves, klingberg in

that is significantly worse

Meh. Holl has awful at defense and offense. Klingberg probably moves the puck better and should score at least as much and possibly a lot more given our offensive talent.

Bunting got too much. Kerfoot as well. I'll miss Bunting a bit but won't miss Kerfoot at all. He was paid three times his worth.

And we're 9 hours into free agency. None of those guys were roster breaking losses.

What about all those AHL guys who some said should've got a legit shot last year? The guys who would've been better than guys like Lafferty and Acciari and would've made us faster ad younger. We literally signed 1 4th line player and brought back Kampf and have open spots for all those guys now, so I really don't see how our depth scoring is much worse. Still got almost 6 mil in cap since Muzzin probably isn't playing again. Samsonov probably gonna get the money we get from moving Murray out. Bertuzzi seems to be the most rumoured to us still at this point and even Domi. Bertuzzi helps the top 6 and Domi would help depth scoring depending which one we get, unless we somehow get both.

You're always the voice of sanity in here!

You're a great poster that sees both sides of the coin.
