I'll be honest, I do not think we missed out on anything. I would have actually rather we did absolutely nothing except the depth signings + bringing back Kampf.

Reaves and Klingberg are not exactly needs nor strong fits in our lineup.

So we are left with a weird 4th line that may just be unplayable, and a defenseman who doesn't fill a need and does not fit on any pairing.
Disagree on Klingberg assessment; Toronto lacked the ability for a defenceman that can move the puck and put up points, it would have been nice for the price tag to be less then 4m, but he can and hopefully be effective for us.

Toronto has lacked the ability to move the puck up to the forwards effectively.

McMann cannot keep up to nhl pace. I don’t see him as anything other than a depth piece I’m more hopefully on Abruzesse

Bertuzzi is very injury prone and has had back issues in the past. My guess he wants 6 to 7 years if he can get it.
McMann is a better skater than most of the current leafs roster. The issue with him is mental not physical. He has low hockey sense.

That means the Leafs will have zero interest. Would have cost $9 ish million to keep ROR, Schenn, and Acciari, but instead they decided to blow $8 million on Klingon, Reaves, and Kampf.

They couldn't sign before noon today no matter what. I think they have the numbers or they would have been traded.
It's been confirmed all three players were willing to come back?
Essentially 0 cap space with a Sammy signing and Murray still on the team. Maybe 1M

This is also assuming Muzzin is on LTIR
If the Leafs go QO with Sammy, it will be 3.5 maybe 4 million for the one year taking him to UFA. Likely how they may approach it with uncertainty next year regarding the cap and new contracts.

If we could somehow get Bertuzzi that would change the perspective on how this team looks on paper. Lost some good players today(Acciari, Schenn RoR) but also lost some not so great ones (Holl, Kerfoot) so all in all, meh..

I don't hate anything we did today. I don't love any of it either. Reaves is too long but the dollars are nothing concerning. Klingberg is too high but it's one year so who cares.

There were some absolutely horrifying deals signed today in other cities and I'm glad we're not in that boat.
Similar boat. Reaves should be almost fully buriable (pending the contract meets the conditions) and Klingberg is a 1 year deal. I don’t really see the fit but it’s early and a 1 year deal.

Still lots of good quality out there… and probably for cheap. Toronto is the place to come to get paid. It hasn’t changed clearly.

Klingberg's not a transition Dman, this signing did little to address that.

But hey, he's a name.

Fischer, Suter, Fjallby

A few interesting players around

According to cap friendly:

based on last year's production

top 25 forwards still available (UFAs only)

Doubtful, they have literally zero secondary scoring at all.

They will have to play 30 minutes per game at this rate. The Leafs just spent nearly $4 million on two bottom 6 players who scored a total of 12 goals in like 160 combined games.
BUT RYAN REEVES CAN FIGHT BRO!

I mean like the Klingberg deal, but Kampf and Reeves, yeah.

Suter doesn't seem like their cup of tea.

No body in the history of the leafs has f***ed up a team as fast as our new gm willy will get the f*** out of toronto asap he will be asking for a trade before the season starts

I feel in my gut nylander is going to get traded. I dont think BT is going to mess around as nylander and gudreau have same agent. I dont think BT is going to give him benefit of doubt.

Matthews i think is lesser issue as he is going t9 get signed. We all know it is going to be a shit deal for the leafs and matthews will waste another 3-4 years of his career not winning.

My crystal ball says,
Nylander gets traded for pesce and a 2nd.
Leafs send murray and 2nd somewhere for future considerations
Leafs sign Toews for 2 x $1.5 million
Leafs sign Bertuzzi for 6 x $5.5 million
Leafs sign Domi for 1 x $3.5 million
Leafs extend Sammy 1 × $3 million

Bertuzzi. Matthews. Domi
Knies. Tavares. Marner
Robertson. Toews. Jarnkrok
Lafferry. Kampf. Reaves

Rielly. Pesce
Brodie. Klingberg
Mccabe. Lilly
Gio. Timmins

Sammy

The Treliving era is beginning exactly as expected

Inherited a Team trapped in Cap Hell :madfire:, with big contracts, that are coming due that are expected by the President Shanahan to run it back and re-sign them with those new #'s unknown.

The Matt Murray contract that has not yet been bought-out or disposed of, with those proceeds going towards your #1G an RFA in Ilya Samsonov that needs a new contract to bring back with his amount unknown., but could file for Arbitration by July 5th.

Where bringing back your depth #3C David Kampf, signing a tough 4th liner making $1.3 mil and adding a $4 mil Dman on a 1 year deal that has put the team at the new Cap ceiling with less than < $500k left in free space, other than the potential LTIR recapture of Jake Muzzin contract to overspend the upper limit by, IF Muzz does indeed fail his physical at camp and can be placed legally on LTIR.

With the 2024-25 Cap in 2 years projecting a +$4 mil increase, but the NEW Matthews and Nylander extensions going to eat up potentially all that and even more based on rumoured #'s.

Until the Leafs can get out from under the chokehold of the $11 mil Tavares deal in 2 more years, Leafs are going to be in for tough sledding and ride out the storm.

We get told every year we lacked depth scoring and still make the playoffs so what's changed?

Ultimately, I'm hoping this is just the first part of a two-part plan. Management could potentially have a few trades up their sleeve in the days to come. Not even talking about Nylander, but they could move out Murray for example and then opt to pick up a couple new players. Maybe trade Timmins for someone ect

I’m happy that they didn’t re-sign Holl and Kerfoot .. will help refresh the look of the team (for better or worse).

Reaves seems like just an odd signing but he’ll provide some entertainment.

Klingberg will hopefully help the luck movement on the back end but there will be some defensive gaffes. Hate the AAV.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Next August Tavares gets shipped to a team trying to hit the floor for a buy out and then we can resign him at a reasonable deal.

Then the cap goes up on top of it. Matthews locked in, Nylanders future determined and Marner extension under the works. Tavares comes back on a team friendly deal and we are in a good position for the new cap era.
