Alex Kerfoot signs with Arizona. 2 years @ 3.5 mill.

Surprised he didn't get more TBH, but I have a feeling he wants to cash in with the cap rise.
It is funny that the trade board told us for years that Kerfoot and Holl were negative value assets and we would have to include a pick to move either of them.
1 of them got the same salary and the other got a significant raise.

McMann cannot keep up to nhl pace. I don’t see him as anything other than a depth piece I’m more hopefully on Abruzesse

Bertuzzi is very injury prone and has had back issues in the past. My guess he wants 6 to 7 years if he can get it.
Perfect. Bertuzzi could go on ltir every year and come back for the playoffs. Like stone did and many others. About time we flex some financial muscle.

Honestly Im still happy we didn't sign Holl or Kerfoot. Atleast thats over with.

Go get Bertuzzi

It won't help. Everyone will just pick new players next year that are "the cause of all our issues"

Would much rather have Sandin right now than Klingberg...

you know what McCabe said after the first few games he played with the Leafs?

"Forwards here backcheck so it becomes easier to play defense"

he was a -27 just a year prior with the hawks. I find it hilarious people are losing their shit over 1 yr of Klingberg. And from what I've seen it seems like most of it is coming from dubas fans

There goes Toronto’s real captain. On the bright side Kerfoot is available in 1.5 seasons, I bet we can steal him for a 2028 1st.

We've been lucky the past few years with the core 4 not suffering many serious injuries. Matthews or Marner go down for a while this season and we're competing for a top 5 pick.

which is not that bad given we still have the '24 first rounder.

and we deserpeately need a re-tool and some ELCs on the roster with quality to compete

And that was even light compared to what similar guys got. Those teams did well getting them where they did.

I actually like the Klingberg signing. I wish it were a 2/3 year deal instead. We needed a puck moving offensive defenceman and Klingberg provides that.

With Rielly and Klingberg we’re set offensively from the blueline. Now we have to fix the defensive physical side of it.

Brodie for Zadorov ;)

I know we’re being alarmist, but are we really or is this bizarro world? I’ve never felt this low on a July 1st.

Think of it this way...

the last time you've felt really high on July 1st what did that season's result has been? ex: tavares signging

may be the opposite will happen this year LOL ;)

TORONTO – As the most frenzied hours of free agency rolled by, and the signings pushed well past 140, and the total contract dollars eclipsed $600 million, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ roster gradually got worse.

Now, that’s not to say the Maple Leafs will stay worse.

New general manager Brad Treliving — pressed by salary-cap constraints and drinking from a firehose of urgent situations with star players, his coaching staff and his own brass since accepting the gig one month ago — still has open contract slots, UFA targets and trade options to rebound from a sluggish, ruggish start to Toronto’s off-season.

Treliving is interested in edgy forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi, two of the best UFA options still on the board, poking around the defence market, and maintaining dialogue with Alexander Kerfoot, who is weighing options.

............

More optimism: There is still scads of time before training camp begins. Bargains will be had on the UFA market. And potential trade partners (Calgary? Carolina? Philadelphia?) are still out there.

Talks with Matthews and Nylander continue.

This is not a finished product, and Treliving believes the relatively flat cap stretches the business window past July 1. He’s hunting for depth scoring.

“I mean, five years ago, by July 2 you can hang the ‘Gone Fishing’ sign up. It's done,” Treliving said earlier this week. “I think you're gonna see an elongated timeframe. ... You could see that [signing] period probably slip into later in July.”

Not a chance Treliving reaches for that rod and tackle box just yet.

He’s still busy trying to reel in his metaphorical big fish.

Surprised by that contract as well. Could understand if it were a matter of taking less to be/stay on a contender, but...

That literally means nothing here... Sandin is a better defender, provides the same or better offense, and still has many years to go in his career. There's no comparison here.

And if you think my comment constitutes "lose their shit", you're probably better off staying off the internet.
