7.875M x 4. Hoping this contract isn't going to be used as a comparable.
And he didn't get any signing bonuses either.
I hope it is used as a comparable.

Fair enough regarding that. I'm not crazy about it for the lack of term relative to that AAV.And he didn't get any signing bonuses either.

Less than what Ottawa gave up to get him, no?
Has anybody said what the conditions on the pick are? Doesn't look like a great return.
Not necessarily. Removing Floaty for a top 4 RHD would make the team better. His contract is also easier to trade. This trade is super eye opening to anyone who's in the trade Nylander camp. I'd imagine our return would be similar to that, if not a tad more which would be super disappointing.
Nylander still has 1 year left on his deal so we'd easily get a much better returnThis trade is super eye opening to anyone who's in the trade Nylander camp. I'd imagine our return would be similar to that, if not a tad more which would be super disappointing.
I think Willy is the better player and trending in a better direction but Debrincat has a better career points and goals per game and is a year younger. If DeBrincat is getting 7.9Mx5, it’s pretty hard for the Leafs to argue Nylander should only get 8.5M or whatever lol
Yeah Nylander had a year left on his deal but this was a sign and trade so it was for 4 years of Debrincat vs 1 of NylanderNylander still has 1 year left on his deal so we'd easily get a much better return
Ottawa gave up 7th overall and 39th overall for basically 1 year of DeBincrat and did not even make playoffs. Then get a crappy return for him signed for 4 yr term

Atlantic Division is once again going to be a really tough out though
Dorion really screwed up on that ordeal
Debrincat was a RFA so he could've sat out until he got traded. Wherever Nylander ends up if he's traded they are most likely getting him for 9 years as well.I think Willy is the better player and trending in a better direction but Debrincat has a better career points and goals per game and is a year younger.
Neither is all that strong defensively. Cat is a year younger and this contract buys out all his prime years and no older ones.
The gap may not be as big as some here are going to make it out to be.

And also to Nylander about thinking he can get more elsewhere.I don't think that Toronto ever wanted to trade Nylander anyway, but this trade should be a good example of why that type of trade would be a bad idea.
the new owner should fire him asap or if he hasn't taken over officially, id expect thats # 1 on first day dutiesDorion really screwed up on that ordeal
We also had this guy negotiating last time:Comparables with Willy don't work, or at least they didn't last time. We all looked at contracts like Ehlers' and Pastrnak's and in the end it didn't play into the negotiations at all, or if they did it wasn't in the Leafs favour. As much as we want the contracts of Debrincat or Meier to be a sort of baseline for a Nylander contract, I doubt he or Gross give two f***s.

Then follow that up with showing them a picture of Kerfoot in Arizona...Yep, it's going to be difficult to put the genie back into the bottle so to speak with these current and upcoming negotiations. All of the Big Three were overpaid to some degree, so getting a fair deal this time around will be a herculean task.
Really, the contract comparable Treliving should use is on the team already. Just point to a picture of Rielly and remind our star forwards that Mo took less to make this work, and they'd do well to follow in his footsteps.
They don't dump 21 year old second round picks who are shaping up to be a middle 6 scorer after 2 injury plagued seasons for no reason other than a fan is not really happy either.IF they want to keep a dime a dozen player, so be it....but heads up; they don't.
Roberston types are the most common trade fodder because someone always thinks they can fix them/get more out of them.
What was the salary cap when Crosby signed over 11 years ago with an illegal backdiving contract, and what has been his best season since?Crosby did it. McDavid did it. MacKinnon just did it.
Of course comparables work with Nylander, and they did last time, which is why Nylander fell right within his comparables. As much as we want to pay Nylander the same money as obviously worse players in Debrincat and Meier, that's unrealistic.Comparables with Willy don't work, or at least they didn't last time.
