9.5 x 8 would be an easy yes from me. Weird that it’s a difficult one for them to get done

It’s because he asking for $10m. Plus comparable players like Meier and PLD got something in the mid or high 8s. High 8s Seems fair considering Meier and Dubois are both younger than Nylander (Dubois by 2 full years).

Dubois’ contract comes with 35% in signing bonuses and 50% for Meier. Nylander’s last contract came at 55%. Presumably, Nylander is going to get more in signing bonuses than both players.

Both PLD and Meier signed with new teams. Nylander has been with the Leafs for 8 years, you would think he would take what’s fair now with a team he knows and who he bent over last contract negotiations by risking injury or a down year.

Nylander maybe worth $9.5-10M next free agency period, but he isn’t worth that today.

The truth is that none of these players are soft or just perimeter players. All I was saying is that it definitely applies more to Barzal than any of our stars, so if people already make those false claims about the guys we already have, it would just be worse with Barzal. Also no, their point totals would not flip, but I do agree that it's a trade that would never happen. Hopefully we're not trading any of our stars.
You are reaching that conclusion based on incomplete information. It's clear that you simply haven't watched Barzal play to the extent that you have watched Nylander play. That is to be expected. At the same time, it's foolish to make definitive statements with incomplete information. It detracts from any argument you are trying to make. Justifying a contract for Nylander doesn't require you to impugn Barzal or any other player. Simply make your case for Nylander and your opinions will have more credibility. If you believe that Nylander is a better player than Barzal, no problem. But have the courage to preface that opinion by saying that you have watched one player substantially more than the other player.

I think it kind of goes without saying that everybody here would have watched Nylander more than Barzal, but I've watched Barzal quite a bit. I didn't "impugn" anybody, or even mention contracts. I noted the fact that Nylander is a better player, and made a comment on how Barzal would be perceived here.

You made an incorrect assessment of Barzal, and used that to conclude that Nylander is a better player. It was poor analysis.

I wasn't even doing an analysis lol. I acknowledged the fact that Nylander is a better player, and made an accurate comment about Barzal and how he would be perceived here that wasn't used to "conclude" anything. Move on.

Interesting to have Ottawa send DeBrincat to a divisional rival after the price they paid to acquire him from Chicago. I'm sure DeBrincat is pumped to be playing at home though. Good contract for the player as well. My early observation is that the return for Ottawa does not seem to jump off the page. Mind you, DET may potentially be giving up a 1st round pick under somewhat similar conditions to what OTT did when acquiring DeBrincat themselves (the pick being outside of those that are within playoff range).

Pretty sure Dorion wanted to take less if it went to the other conference... Still didn't work out for them as much and it turn went to a divisional rivals.

If DeBrincat is getting 7.9Mx5, it’s pretty hard for the Leafs to argue Nylander should only get 8.5M or whatever lol
Why?

Debrincat had 56 in 52 and 78 in 82 his past two years in Chicago playing #2 to Kane.

He had a down year this year on the sens with 66 pts.

Nylander has had 42 in 51, 80 in 81, and 87 in 82 the past 3 years, playing as the #3 behind 34 and 16 here.

Nylander is better but not hy some absurd amount. 8.5-9M on a 7-8 year deal is what hes worth

7.875M x 4. Hoping this contract isn't going to be used as a comparable.

This trade is super eye opening to anyone who's in the trade Nylander camp. I'd imagine our return would be similar to that, if not a tad more which would be super disappointing.
