With Kopitar signing 2 years 7M

I think JT wont get much of a cut on his next deal if we bring him back.

Think he gets 4 years 34M (8.5M).

I would hope to stay away from that and hopefully wr acquire a 2C via trade or Cowan/Minten over achieve
It will be less.

JT is nothing to worry about.

Best 2C in the league to follow up Matthews then he'll give us a sweet deal in his upper 30's.

I think JT will be more concerned about leaving town than a guy like Kopitar whose not originally from LA.
And I don't believe Kopitar has earned $77 million over the past 7 years. JT will likely leave a lot on the table for his next deal.

Actually Kopi’s earned $80 million over the last 8  he’s on the last year of an 8 year., $10 AAV deal

Still I wouldn’t re-sign JT unless it’s at a substantial discount. One his play will keep dropping off to becoming a face off and PP specialist. Two, the Leafs will likely have other big contracts on the roster and have to be smart cap-wise

I could’ve sworn Tavares just had a PPG season with nearly 40 goals.

Guess not
JT was 77th in the league in even strength goals and in the 30s for total goals/points while being almost top 5 for cap hits. When league scoring is way up point per game doesn't have the same meaning it once did.

Don't think I'd want to pay him 7.5 million in 2 years when he is like 34

As they relate to Treliving signings and trades?

No I ask this question because yesterday @Notsince67 posted this and it's pretty concerning that Tavares doesn't even rank in the top 100 in any of the three categories.

My ideal lineup for next season if Nylander is dealt probably looks like this:

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Necas
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Domi - Laughton - Jarnkrok
Boqvist - Kampf - Lafferty
Shaw/Reaves

Rielly - Pesce
Brodie - Klingberg
McCabe - Liljegren
Giordano

Samsonov
Woll

Though I’d love to also keep Timmins and somehow sneak Drury into a Nylander to Carolina deal. If not Boqvist/Shaw, I also like Heinen and Comtois.

I have no idea what they mean but the first thing that stands out is that each player has almost the identical ranking in each category which seems odd.
Maybe it's just a coincidence?

Seems off topic for this thread anyway, probably would make for an interesting thread for those that follow that stuff.

Big Tavares issue is Keefe/Dubas have used him as a grinder/forechecker on his line, which is not ideal.

He's either surrounded by floaters like Nylander (not an insult by the way), or ineffective guys like Kerfoot.

He needs a Hyman or Bertuzzi.

Some Toronto Maple Leafs notes from Pagnotta:

- Nylander is looking for a $10M AAV on a new contract, the Leafs are looking more at $8.5M

- Nothing is close between Auston Matthews and the Leafs, Matthews will not take anything more then 5 years

- Brodie and Robertson are potentially being shopped

- Leafs may include Nicholas Robertson as a "sweetener" in a Murray trade if they don't buy him out

It's so gross we have to give up a sweetner to get rid of Murray. Everyone knew getting him was a bad move. No idea what went through Dubas' head. Its unbelievable he didn't learn from the Mrazek debacle right before this.

Matthews not willing to take over 5 is a bad sign, clearly looking to maximize dollar earnings as his number 1 priority.

If the leafs shop Brodie and don't get a good top 4 defensive D the defense is going to be a tire fire. Add a horrible defensive player in Klingberg and get rid of by far the leafs best defensive defender? Sounds like a good plan.....

What do you mean nothing is close between Matthews and leafs. I thought they were close to signing?

In hind sight absoloutley.

I'll admit I was hopeful Murray would find some magic with the Leafs but he looks cooked due to being made of glass unfortunately.

It'd really suck giving up Robertson though to get rid of him for 1 season.

Hopefully they find a better compensation package to add on to Murray if needs be.
