Based on size alone?
Comtois had a pretty good first full season in the NHL as a 21YO, 16G-33pts in 55GP. Then he ran into some injury issues. While also providing the size and physicality.

Zadina is a scorer and nothing else, who has never shown any scoring ability at the NHL level.

Both are 99s so you can compare them year to year pretty easily.

Granted I havent followed Zadina that much in the NHL, save for maybe a handful of games, but his underlying offensive numbers seem to suggest a player who is either a)unlucky or b) underutilized. Seems like a prime breakout candidate.

I'm not opposed to Zadina, but for me he's more a minors guy who could spot into the top 6 if you run into some injuries and maybe after some solid time in the minors he can show himself as a viable NHL option.

Comtois is a guy who can be a forcheck abd energy guy in the bottom 6 with potential for more. But health is a question mark for him.

With Kopitar signing 2 years 7M

I think JT wont get much of a cut on his next deal if we bring him back.

Think he gets 4 years 34M (8.5M).

I would hope to stay away from that and hopefully wr acquire a 2C via trade or Cowan/Minten over achieve

Yeah. I don’t think there’s any world in which we pay him more than 4.5-5M per. If he can’t live with that he won’t be a Leaf and that’s the way it goes.

Looking like the leafs badly need to start preparing for a new 2C (and 3C it seems) very shortly. Looking like it was have to be via a trade or a UFA

Saying we are so much better and in fact are an elite team in comparison, but cant get out of the first round (til this year) makes me laugh yes.
Well when u usually get knocked out by the teams that make the finals or win the cup makes getting out of the first round very hard but yes you are right

We’re usually top 5/10 in regular season every year. Us making playoffs amisnt even in discussion but if I’m bringing laughter into your life that makes me happy so your welcome

I know of a guy, who was over PPG last year, has taken over 1800 faceoffs in his career at over 50%, become a good two way player, good skating. Do you think he’d be a good 2C? Worth a try?

Extended Willy for Lindholm and Zadorov would be a great deal for us.

Extend lindholm long term at 7-7.5 per year, becomes our number 2C.

Murray plus Robertson for cap space and a late round pick
I really hate buyouts but I highly prefer it to giving up a high pick or one of our top prospects to get rid of Murray

Wonder if Walman might be available from the Red Wings. Solid top 4 D from Toronto, signed to a reasonable deal, was pretty solid defensively last year.

Maybe Liljegren+Murray?

Ideally swing a Timmins+(Robertson/picks) for Zadorov.

Rielly-Brodie
Walman-Klingberg
McCabe-Zadorov
/Giordano
Can’t see him being available, a few of the popular analytics guys rate him in top 5 in NHL in defensive impact. He’s a gem.

I think JT will be more concerned about leaving town than a guy like Kopitar whose not originally from LA.

Yup.. Nylander can, and does play C. If we come to terms with him, and the mgmt agrees with much of the board sentiment, then he should be the answer. Or given an extended opportunity.

That was the one thing that I never understood, why not play him at C for 10-20 regular season games with reasonable linemates just to see what you got? I know we’re trying to win and don’t want to experiment but if Hollowell and an EBUG get ice time I’m sure we can survive a handful of games of Nylander at 2C while Matthews was out.

Other teams keep their Robertsons......
IF they want to keep a dime a dozen player, so be it....but heads up; they don't.

Roberston types are the most common trade fodder because someone always thinks they can fix them/get more out of them.

You have to keep in mind that Schenn came in to the line-up and played well, but he was only on the team for a 15 game stretch for the regular season, where he missed a handful of games with the birth of a child. And then he played 11 playoff games.

Playing Schenn for 82 on the top pair is not going to look like he did in the playoffs. Then the Leafs get themselves in the same situation as they always do when they try to extend where players should actually be playing. Schenn would look great on the 3rd pairing. The problem is, how many other guys in the system are we saying that about? xxx player would be great if he was sheltered on the 3rd pair. You can use that for Timmins, Giordano or Liljegren. They need legit top pairing guys.
Might depend on how you use your “top” pair.

l'd like for his next deal to be with a different team regardless.

I'd definitely be using willy at 2c next season. Hes capable especially with a solid two way winger on his line like Marner.

Tavares. Matthews. Jarnkrok
Bertuzzi. Nylander. Marner
Knies. Domi. Holmberg
Lafferty. Kampf. Reaves

Any decent third string goalies available? Assuming Murray is gone we'll need a reliable guy from the Marlies should Woll or Sammy go down. None of our other goalies under contract have seen any NHL action.
