New GM Trades and Signings Part 2

U know how optimistic we would be for next year if we had lost in the finals? We would all want the core to come back instead of trading one or two

When was the last time we had a legit top notch goalie? I hate going into every season wondering if our goalie situation is good even

100% our D needs to get better still but even Vegas had great goaltending that did take them all the way hence the extension now. Ur a nobody until you become a somebody

He can't go to the Marlies without clearing waivers first.

He should go to a non-contender for sure. But hey maybe he sees Toronto as the perfect spot to develop better, who knows.
 
I'd be looking at Zach Sanford for 4LW. I don't see any world where Kampf fits as 4C next to Reaves so I'd look to run a defensive 3rd unit and a Sanford-Lafferty-Reaves 4th line.

For the record I hate having that 4th line over a defensive 4th line centered around Kampf but that appears to be the direction they're going.

The likely way they do it is Lafferty-Kampf-Reaves taking on the fly shifts and matching 4th lines. But for defensive starts or in a situation where they need to shut down a line, bench Reaves and double shift Marner.
 
Extended Willy for Lindholm and Zadorov would be a great deal for us.

Extend lindholm long term at 7-7.5 per year, becomes our number 2C.

Murray plus Robertson for cap space and a late round pick

Brodie was competent in that role for a while until late last season but at this point I agree.

We need another Schenn type defenceman to pair with Rielly. Hopefully someone younger and more agile.

I loved having Schenn but to be honest, I think Treliving did the right thing not overpaying him for 3 years at this stage of Schenn's career.

I would do that in a heartbeat.
 
I know people are up in arms and want a core player moved and I understand, but if I were in charge I am simply not sacrificing Nylander to keep Tavares.

Get him extended to a number we can live with, hopefully no more than $9M, and battle through the cap crunch for one year until Tavares’ deal comes off the books.

Every team in the league knows how badly we have to move away from Murray

We have a 2024 first rounder(??)
It will come down to that and/or Robertsson

You may want to hold on to that draft pick as that will be premium come during trade deadline

He's horrible on D. For sure
But unlike Holl, Klingberg is good at one thing. Point and Powerplay
Has a decent shot and can move the puck

Something we have been severly lacking from the days of dare I say Dion Phaneuf

One emerging question for Brad will be if it was more impactful for them to re-sign a prime age Kampf at C or an older Schenn on D with all the residual benefits of stabilizing Rielly and being a good leader, tough guy for the new looked Leafs. Assuming the $2.4-$2.75 million range for Schenn in Toronto would have gotten it done.
 
Alright, so we're $2.4m under the cap without Muzzin and Murray. What about this:

Murray + our 1st somewhere for a 2nd rounder.
Liljegren + 2nd rounder for Zadorov with 50% retained (move adds $500k to cap)
Jarnkrok for a 2nd or 3rd. Pontus replaces him in the lineup with $1.3 mil cap saved.

Sign Samsonov to 1 yr $3.2 mil we'll have left under the cap.

Maybe I'm a bit high on Zadorov and low on Lil given that he lost his job to Holl, but that series of moves rounds out our roster and gives us an extra mid-round pick to play with at the deadline to pick up another Schenn.

Honestly sounds like a terrible game plan. That 4th line has legitimately no purpose.

Leafs have been clamoring for a legitimate top 4 RHD for 20 years. Trading Liljegren for a rental would be brutal asset management. If they're trading Liljegren+ they should at minimum target someone with term and ideally a RHD.
