Because of Leafs cap management strategies of top heavy spending on 4 forwards it becomes a Haves and Have Nots society.

Toronto simply becomes a short-term opportunity for players among the annual reshuffling of deck chairs of depth players that come in to help bump their next contract potential earnings and Leafs can't afford to keep them anyways. Its a constant musical chairs of bottom 6 and depth players where the core has proven time and time again they can't win and carry a team in the playoffs.

After the Leafs top 4 forwards their 5th highest paid forward is Kampf at $2.4 mil and he is considered overpaid to stay, and everyone from that done needs to be priced below them as dumpster diving and finding value in bargan bins to round out the roster.
Its pretty clear that this was Kyles strategy and he was pretty good at finding cheap projects but it has proven to be a non winner in the grand scheme of things....it happens, however, someone in charge needs to be made aware of that.

Hayes has a point every other Star player has sacrificed on money except our Stars.
Or as a smart broadcast, Hayes knows that that is a popular narrative amongst fans, so they're playing into it. I'm strongly of the opinion that the media simply gives the fans what they appear to want.

And as usual, I could be wrong.

Im pretty close to just switching to being a hawks fan with bedard if this shit ass GM and President dont get things together

I'll be supporting Bedard heavily as is, might as well cheer for the hawks from when they are a tank worthy team

On tsn MJ is ok with matthews getting 14.5
That is exactly our stupid problem

Trade this greedy prick as soon as you can.

Just as the board comes out praising how bright MJ is compared to the rest of the cast he comes out with that complete and utter rubbish and proceeds to get buried live on the air by Hayes.

Quality timing

There was growth, they found a way to win when not at their best and beat a 3x conference champ and 2x cup winner. Then they ended up running into a goalie who was playing at like a .960 clip for the series before and after them along with their match up.
There’s work to be done for sure, and no one should be satisfied with the end result and change should be expected. Just the overall tone and outlook of some is a little much sometimes
Take out the extreme views on both ends of the spectrum and therein lies the most likely answers....its like that with everything but difficult to weed out sometimes.

Haven't heard anything on Toews. Leafs being quiet, could mean they are focusing on a few UFA rather than casting a large net. Dumba would make sense, can't see Domi being a target. Plenty of time and UFA's for the Leafs to sign.

Drouin and his trainwreck of a career for 1 year at league min to play next to Matty.

SCOUTING REPORT
The tools for stardom that made him the No. 3 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft are still there, but he is still trying to put everything together at the highest level. He can play all three forward positions, has terrific puck skills, excellent vision and creativity, and can be a world-class playmaker. However, he still has to prove he can get past the injuries and inconsistency that have marked his career, and his play off the puck remains a work in progress.
Long Range Potential: Supremely talented playmaker with major consistency issues.

How is it a narrative ? It’s a straight up fact our star players bent the team over on their deals.

Take a peek at how other teams have structured their salary caps. It’s becoming a league of having your core group locked up and filling out the rest.
