I’m actually with Hayes, MacKinnon’s deal is only going to fall 1 year short of Matthews if he signed at 8 years but apparently he won’t.

So MacKinnon’s 12.6 aav kicks in next year

Matthews has more career earnings already most likely.

Or maybe it's a fanbase with a history of scapegoating or turning on players? I'm not sure I'd want to play for this fanbase. But as usual, I could be wrong.

We as a fanbase went though zero playoff hockey between 2006 and 2013 and didn’t win a single playoff round between 2006 and 2023, and we’re the bad guys for being unhappy with certain players, coaches, GM’s and teams? Yes, we should be more appreciative, and have a better attitude handing over $500 for reds and buy more merchandise with a smile on our faces. How dare we chat amongst ourselves and call into the radio show and tweet silly things.

Can you imagine not being a Leafs fan and watching TSN. It's literally been us like 50% of the time lmao

I actually don't blame the rest of Canada for being resentful
They gotta do something to add Leaf content to the program. Especially when Treliving is sitting on his ass, waving at players signing with other teams.

You have to remember, MacKinnon took a huge discount cause he wanted to win... or so he says.

Also, do you trust the GM to not waste the extra cap you give him? Early return on our cap is not good.

I wouldn't give up 10 million over a contract to sign Reaves and Kampf.

This is a miserable way to determine value on things. Obviously the goal is to win, but only 1 team wins each year. So there’s 31 other organizations that are losers and have nothing positive to take from the previous seasons?
Your not wrong but come on even you have to admit after 7 yrs of the same its a little harder to be optimistic that this core will figure it out? If there was some growth and if we could see they were getting better it would be one thing but we have plateaued and are treading water at this point.

This is Free Agency people. Players have to want to sign here for us to get them on deals you see other teams get them for. So before complaining how we couldn't get this player for that maybe think that they didn't want to come here. Look at O'Rielly, money and term wasn't an issue for us but he chose Nashville over us.

My prediction is Hathaway, Dumba and Domi.

Domi would be unbearable with his bobble head of a father and his ego but he is fast can provide complimentary scoring so I suppose as long as we can trade him if he's a locker room cancer, I think he is worth the risk.

I dont think anyone said toxic.

There is toxic, and then there is compete level when the grind kicks in. Finding that next gear.

Sometimes it can take a while, sometimes it takes a certain blend of personality etc.

We have seen teams take years (Washington) to find that formula.

Leafs dont seem too close, but you never know with the right pieces brought in. But its certainly more difficult in todays cap era when you have a salary structure like the Leafs.

How are you bringing the right pieces in if they apparently don’t want to waste their time here unless we overpay?

Hayes has a point every other Star player has sacrificed on money except our Stars.

Rantanen didn't, Landeskog didn't, Makar didn't, MacKinnon didn't, Eichel didn't, Stone didn't, Pietreangelo didn't.

Tavares did.
