They didn't trade assets for an extension. They traded assets to win a round and hopefully the cup. At least they accomplished the first thing.
yea, if they win the cup of go deep nobody cares about the assets. If we didnt spend assets while taking a run at it people would have lost their shit.... and Im not a Dubas fan but I understand why he did what he did. Guess there could be an argument on the types of players he gave up assets for re foligno but this year it seemed like both sides of the Dubas debate agreed that the players brought in were the kind we needed and overall was a pretty good tdl for us?

I think there's a trade in works. Nylander gone for a dman and than sign Tarasanko and domi
Unless that d man is a retained karlsson then this is a brutal idea.
They need to score more from more parts of the line up.

Saying Toronto isn't a desirable market is too much of a cop out and takes agency away from our shitty GM. Even as a worst case scenario, Toronto should be enticing players to build their value up in a big market with a chance to play with elite players. If we can't sign anyone other than Ryan Reaves, it's because our GM is incompetent

Don’t think Ryan Reaves turned the tide on the reputation of Toronto or that Treliving drove the team into the ground in 30 days.

It just goes back to the core players sullying their own reputation with immature playoff efforts year over year and they’ve crossed over from the hot young team on the cusp to a team that isn’t that desirable to play for.

Why would John Q Free Agent want to join a playoff underachiever making team friendly money to support an elite group at the top. Get tarred and feathered out of Toronto?

So Bunting gets about market value. Good for him to get his payday.

Even though it is one of the more pricey deals signed this off-season, I think it will work out for Carolina.

40-50P/15-G20G plus an effective pest game that he is actually free to play without the refs hounding him as they did here.

(Edit: To be clear, I wouldn't have signed him to that deal. I was thinking he needed to take the Kerfoot contract [$3.5M]) to stay in Toronto).

Nope. I think it is more likely that Yzerman is not quite as bullet proof as most people act like he is.
Lets wait and see how he is used. I had no problem with Holl if were down the lineup but there seemed to be many nights that he was played as a top pairing dman.

Beyond that I don’t think it’s attractive to play with this core group anymore. Feels like the reputational damage they’ve wrought on the franchise with their play might be more real than sports radio chat and fan dissatisfaction.
Or maybe it's a fanbase with a history of scapegoating or turning on players? I'm not sure I'd want to play for this fanbase. But as usual, I could be wrong.

Ya I'm not being serious. Just wanted to feel worse so I typed it all out.
Makes sense.

I just finished a round at Parry Sound, tried not to check my phone until I was done. Depressing seeing ROR and Schenn leave. Now just sitting on the porch with a drink watching this shit lol

Bertuzzi-Matthew’s-Marner
Tavares-Domi-Nylander
Knies-Holmberg-McMann
Lafferty-Kampf-Reaves

Would be pretty good

I don't necessarily disagree but why would players come to Canada? Especially those that have families and lived in the US for a number of years.

Higher taxes, completely different educational system, prices much lower in the states, and far more choice. usually better weather and not getting bugged by fans off the ice. Just a few reasons, there's more.
