As I said in the Reaves thread, I am trying not to get too worked up about a $1.3M deal, although 3 years is an absurd term.

But those are some really affordable contracts for top 9 forwards, even accounting for their aging curve.

Hopefully Treliving has something up his sleeve, because this is off-season is going bad, quick.
I can't believe there's a Reaves Thread. FML

Brought to you by the former leafs gm
Because of Leafs cap management strategies of top heavy spending on 4 forwards it becomes a Haves and Have Nots society.

Toronto simply becomes a short-term opportunity for players among the annual reshuffling of deck chairs of depth players that come in to help bump their next contract potential earnings and Leafs can't afford to keep them anyways. Its a constant musical chairs of bottom 6 and depth players where the core has proven time and time again they can't win and carry a team in the playoffs.

After the Leafs top 4 forwards their 5th highest paid forward is Kampf at $2.4 mil and he is considered overpaid to stay, and everyone from that done needs to be priced below them as dumpster diving and finding value in bargan bins to round out the roster.

Beyond that I don’t think it’s attractive to play with this core group anymore. Feels like the reputational damage they’ve wrought on the franchise with their play might be more real than sports radio chat and fan dissatisfaction.

I think there's a trade in works. Nylander gone for a dman and than sign Tarasanko and domi

Saying Toronto isn't a desirable market is too much of a cop out and takes agency away from our shitty GM. Even as a worst case scenario, Toronto should be enticing players to build their value up in a big market with a chance to play with elite players. If we can't sign anyone other than Ryan Reaves, it's because our GM is incompetent
Our last GM had no issues bringing in guys to round out the roster on value deals. Pretty much exactly the mandate shannys gave Brad T and now it’s the excuses of “not desirable, what can he do?” Never change hf.

Michael Bunting just got the bag after playing in that top 6

Very interesting to hear Duchene flat out say teams are being tied with the purse strings because of the cap for the season.

I'm waiting for Zeke to come back and say we aren't making the playoffs. And provide the stats

Well, based on guys under contract…

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
Robertson - Kampf - Reaves
McMann - Holmberg - Lafferty

Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Liljegren
Giordano - Timmins

Murray
Woll

I don't buy this at all. I also met ROR at the RBC Open that I recently volunteered at and he was very complimentary of the Leafs. People need to let the offseason play out before they complain that the sky is falling.
Yes, but the current story that a lot of the board is running with is that the core sucks and is a bunch of lazy greedy pigs. So, they're viewing everything through that lens.

Maybe they're right. Maybe they're wrong. Time will tell.

That's a 111 point team

In playoffs the light on you shines the brightest and you are under the microscope where your every shift is looked and analyzed.

when UFAs probably see that and see how these same players are all about money, less about effort and expect the others to put in the hard work for less money....

welll.... i see the issue here
