Drouin and his trainwreck of a career for 1 year at league min to play next to Matty.

SCOUTING REPORT

The tools for stardom that made him the No. 3 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft are still there, but he is still trying to put everything together at the highest level. He can play all three forward positions, has terrific puck skills, excellent vision and creativity, and can be a world-class playmaker. However, he still has to prove he can get past the injuries and inconsistency that have marked his career, and his play off the puck remains a work in progress.

Long Range Potential: Supremely talented playmaker with major consistency issues.

I followed that guy since he was in Halifax and I think he's just a shell of what he used to be. He would be a lot of work IMO and I dunno if we have that patience.

Your not wrong but come on even you have to admit after 7 yrs of the same its a little harder to be optimistic that this core will figure it out? If there was some growth and if we could see they were getting better it would be one thing but we have plateaued and are treading water at this point.
Ottawa and Montreal are building their teams the right way and in the long run will be great teams. I wish that we had continued along that path but we didn't.

I'm pessimistic about the teams future but I still have hope. It's tough for us older fans we've seen a lot of losing over the years.

We could go on about all the reasons why but when you combine higher taxes with higher cost of living/real estate, rising crime, poor health care and a very active cancel culture including anti-Christian sentiment led by prominent people including corporations then no it’s not desirable to live in major cities in Canada. This is why Nylander wants 10M AAV to stay when he might accept less stateside. All of these ongoing problems have effectively driven up the cost of labour in Canada. We are just now seeing it spilling over into the sports arena.
What countries have you lived in other then Canada?

Jesus.

"Cost of labour spilling over into the sports arena" has got to be the most agenda driven comment I've seen in a long time.

Maybe some of these millionaire hockey players should play for teams in China or Bangladesh.

I really wanted the Leafs to try to get him signed.

Can't blame him though. See's our players give lackluster effort on the ice, sees the dysfunctional front office.
Taxes, weather, family (kids) all use to the American way of life (school especially). Lower prices for almost everything. Not being bothered by fans off the ice. etc etc etc

Not just American players that prefer not to play in Canada. Plenty of Canadian players prefer not to as well.
Thats fine. If a player cant handle the pressure or whatever else goes along with being in Toronto I get it but I dont want them here. There are players who will welcome it and those will be the ones I will cheer for.

Im pretty close to just switching to being a hawks fan with bedard if this shit ass GM and President dont get things together

I'll be supporting Bedard heavily as is, might as well cheer for the hawks from when they are a tank worthy team
If that's what will make you happy, you absolutley should.

Sticking with following a team that makes you angry and unhappy just seems so silly. So what if you've been a Leafs fan all oyour life and have fond memories. You can sitll have your memorioes, changing teams does erase them. Just like you can have a fond memory of a past job. Or fond memories of a past romantic partner. Life is too short to put yourslef through misery.

Of course, there's always the possibility that some on here just like whining on the Internet.

Me to Tre right now:

How is it a narrative ? It’s a straight up fact our star players bent the team over on their deals.
Nylander has been surplus value the whole time aside the first year when he got in way late. Matthews deal is exactly in line with what every other elite/generational 1c top 3 pick signed for coming off their elc relative to cap% in the cap era.
Only mcdavid went 8 at the time.
Sid, malkin, staal, toews, stamkos, Tavares, Nash, Kane, Kopitar all went 5-6 years at similar cap% relative to the year they signed.
Natural cap increases would have Matthews 11.6 looking outstanding Vs a 90-95m cap.
Marner was a whiff

Take a peek at how other teams have structured their salary caps. It’s becoming a league of having your core group locked up and filling out the rest.
Maybe so but its got to be the right core and for the right price no? Half the cap on 4 similar forwards doesnt seem like the best use resources.

I'm in favour of getting rid off all religions. They've done nothing but caused grief and death all over the world.

I'm not talking God here.....religion and NO, God did not start any church.
It's not a religion problem, it's a human problem. Also getting rid of religion only exists in communist countries with dictators, surely that's not what your advocating for ?

How many teams have 3 forwards averaging 11 million each?
Maybe if that 33 million was spread out over Forward, defence and net it might be workable

Our D is pretty bare at the moment.

It's not terrible... but we should definitely try to add to it.

Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Liljegren
Gio - Timmins

Brodie is still good despite a bad playoff.

Would be nice to push down one or both of the second pairing (or one of the top pairing)
