How banged up Drouin is nowaday. Reklamaation to our top 6 cheaply ? Sincerely I have no idea of his health and value nowadays

Sure it would

If he bounces back to being a top 5 player next year and beyond

His last season ge was 15th-20th best player in the league. 12.6M for that is gross

12.6M would be a steal for Matthews at any capacity. Literally his worst season of his career playing injured and he’s still a top 20 player in the league at an absolute low?

Give me a f***ing break, take a lap bud

I would be willing to bring Reaves in for a year. He is better than the broken-down Simmons they brought in. People in the league still fear him.

I can tell you Gudas wouldn't be running around smoking Kampf after the whistle if Reaves was on the team. Reaves allows the big guns the ability to play their game and not worry about rats taking cheap shots on them during the play or in scrums.

I go back to the Wendel Clark story. Odjick was running after Gilmour one game and Clark went u to Bure and said Gino runs Dougie one more time I am coming after you this game and the rest of your career. Bure on the bench told Gino to stop it.

Reaves can bring that calmness to the big stars and maybe in the playoffs with less fear they can actually play. I know sucks that they can't do it on their own but that is where they are. Caps stars had Tom Wilson, Gudas did that for the Panthers this year.

Reaves can still play a role on the 4th line.

Why would a top 20 player be worth 12.6M which is the highest AAV in the league?

He hasnt been a top 5 player outside of 2021 and 2022.

Paying him again crazy money is a risk. His lingering injuries and inability to perform in the playoffs make that a gross deal

Your attached to matthews so your putting aside the risk in paying him that for his most recent level of play

The reality is that in order to hit homeruns, you gotta be willing to take on a lot of risk in "underappreciated/developed" players. Drysdale for me fits that bill. I would be ok with him being a main piece in a Nylander deal.

I would be 100% on board with a soft retool over the next 2 years to run down Tavares' contract while accumulating some ELCs for another run in 2025 or 2026.

The whole "going for it" era has been a disaster. Lou left us with nothing, and I thought Dubas would be different, but he got a little too comfortable trading picks and prospects for rentals in the last 3 years.

I never said they had to ALL be top notch super appreciated prospects or players.

But Nylanders value should be held to a very highly, especially if the team acquiring him gives him what he wants for his extension. The Leafs should not and will not settle because the Leafs are capped out. It's hard to score goals in the NHL and many teams will be inquiring for sure.

If Nylander was playing for say Colorado or Florida or Anaheim, we'd be talking about Knies, Liljegren and probably a couple 1st rounders at the minimum to even enter some form of conversation. But he's on the Leafs so we're talking about taking on questionable valued players? Nah.

If nylander wants 10-11 mill then trade him. If matthews wants 14-15 mill for 4/5 years then trade him. Trade marner as well since he is the worst of them all.

Im tired of seeing every other player take reasonable contracts while our players ask for insane amounts.

More than just his most recent, injury-filled season - where he was still much better than most people give him credit for - will be considered. There's been no indication that his injury is permanent.

That's a great story...

I actually wouldn't mind him on a cheap deal, but he probably has other options and has no reason to take a cheap deal with Toronto.

I kind of like him for Tavares' wing.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't take a cheap deal to play for Florida or Dallas or Tampa or a southern team. Maybe even go back to Boston. I don't see the fit with us after that.

I don't understand why the Rangers are among the teams being pitched in here. It makes no sense to me. Can someone explain that one?
They are a team that probably feel that they are close to a cup and their biggest weakness is RW. Based on everything I know about Nylander I could see him RE-signing there.

Yep. Punt them and move on. Just like Carolina is doing with Pesce, and SJ with Meier.

Wouldn't be able to get a good enough return unless it was a sign-and-trade.
