I like a Bouchard++ base from the Oilers and a Batherson++ deal from the Senators. That's the closest starting asset they can table that would be similar to Vilardi in the Dubois trade. A good player, that could be a star or remain a good player who is no longer on an ELC and will demand a cap commitment + a couple quality replaceable assets for a player with a significant track record of star level play.

I could also see a Nurse or Debrincat straight up.

With Detroit it would be a futures based deal. They don't have a mid-20's player of interest as a center piece. But, they have a lot of recent high picks and future high draft picks.
Nurse?
Oh yuck

If nylander is asking for 10-11 mill a year then we are screwed. No team will want him and wont trade for him. And we cant afford him either. So he will walk to free agency
Taxes will all of a sudden matter again

Bjorkstrand + Wright + Borgen. That’s the package from Seattle I’d be looking for for Nylander.

From Nashville, Glass would 100% need to be included. Along with a few draft picks we can maybe flip over to Philadelphia in a package for Konecny.

There aren’t many good fits for Nylander where he might actually RE-sign. I wouldn’t be shocked if NYR are a fit. I could see some combination of Laf, Miller, Schneider, Othmann. I could also see Tre willing to take Goodrow back to increase the return.

They don't have the capspace. I think it would need to be something around Trouba, with them adding Laf for example.

Trouba would certainly fill a need for us, and Laf is really intriguing, but Trouba is also overpaid by probably 2.5M or something like that. Big physical guy who can move the puck reasonably well, but who isn't as good defensively as you'd expect/hope. I'd be curious what his playoff impact specifically would be like, because D like that can just run nonstop interference in the playoffs without getting called, usually making them more effective.

Trouba (1M retained) + Laf - is that with it? I think it's at least a discussion, though we're still taking a slightly overpaid Trouba, but at least he fills a big need.

Doubt the Rangers are willing to part with Miller. I could see them offering Lafreniere + Schneider + Goodrow. Which isn’t great but not terrible either.

I'm not making that bet. I think it's better to aim for something tangible.

In your trade scenario, there is a decent possibility that we are left with nothing with the level of prospects coming back.

Ship his ass to Edmonton.
You make “ship his ass to Edmonton” sound like a bad thing when he gets to play with McDrai and some of his old buddies.

Jonah's evaluation of the latest media storm regarding Nylander:

Take it for what you will but Jonah has been plugged in to what message the media is trying to push for a long time.

So there is no trade market for a 40 g 80 pt winger making 7 million?

After July 1 he would be making like 2.5 million

Zadina, Willander and 2024 conditional 1st
Zadina should be a non-starter. Not only is he a borderline bust but he's just more of the same type of player the Leafs have had in their top 6. Rasmussen has actually been very good and should be the target over Zadina. The likelihood of Zadina turning into nothing is high. Rasmussen is at least a good 3C for the next 5-8 years.

From Detroit I'd be looking for Rasmussen, Kostin, Wallinder and a Brodie for Perron swap.

That is what that person believes the message is in the media.

Yeah, that’s Toronto media at its finest. A 80 point centre has no value on the market, yeah okay.

It was like when Marner was in contract negotiations and guys like Dreger kept on saying ‘leafs better start the offer at 11m

Nylander?

To be fair, the messaging is the same for Scheifele who is actually a center and had 6 consecutive seasons above P/GP before this year and he makes less than Nylander.

They wouldn't move Trouba. He's literally their captain and has a NMC.

Goodrow+Laf+Schneider is probably 7M off the book for next season. They'd only be taking on ~1.4M in cap if they replace Goodrow/Schneider with Jones/Cuylle.

That’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve read in quite some time. Nylander has no value lmaooo…
Does it say that? I thought it said there was no market for him. If I had to interpret that I would say teams value him differently than the Leafs do.

Nobody is saying that about Schiefele. Dreger himself said that Schiefele will be in demand.

It's been said about Hellebuyck, a goalie.

I’ve been prepping for an underwhelming return. I am hoping we do a swap for an expiring deal which fits a hole and we can re up for cheaper next year.

Its very clear how valuable cap space is. I still wonder if a Nylander Schiefele swap is possible. Winnipeg could try and sign him long term or ship him out at the TDL for a boatload.

All the reporting I have seen around Scheifele this week is that there is no market for him. I'm 90% sure Dreger said exactly that on Overdrive yesterday.

I'm praying Treliving gets a return that helps the Leafs now and in the future. Scheifele's next contract will be terrible - I am hoping the Leafs don't touch him.
