So for me....I get they want grit and I love grit. I just believe you need grit that can actually play hockey.

Instead of Reaves, why are we not looking at Hathaway for the 4th line? Wood on the 3rd line would also be a nice add in terms of speed and physicality while giving you anywhere from 10-20 goals.
I doubt Reaves would be a full time player. Just playing in games when we're going against a team with a guy who might try and run players and he'll probably do a lot of community work with the programs he's already involved in that the Leafs will help out with kind of like Simmonds. People will say why not just bring back Simmonds, well maybe Simmonds is done and also who do you fear more? Simmonds or Reaves?

I like Hathaway but he's going to be extremely expensive. He's this years Barclay Goodrow. The rangers want to get rid of his contract now just to give you context

Miles Wood according to devils fans is completely washed and is barely even physical anymore. He doesn't fight because of past injury issues. He was a healthy scratch mutiple times in the playoffs

Reaves played all the playoff games and is still one of the toughest mofo's in the league by far. I still agree that he shouldn't be an ideal 1st target to beef up the bottom 6

I was hoping maybe 2.5M x 2 years

Failing that, would Adam Erne be a possible target, cap hit is low?

These are valid points
This whole summer has been bizarre. Everyone thought that there were two options to move on from Dubas and shake things up. Or keep Dubas and core. Now we got rid of Dubas and keep doing the same thing. Who could have anticipated that.

I don't know what to think.

You can’t look at the UFA list and soft by weight?

oh it's that easy lol ok ... JVR is 6'3" and 215lbs... does that fit?

Why is it so hard to type out a couple names you think that would elevate this team with the cap space available? You seem to know that Smith is soft and terrible so I'm sure you have a lot of player knowledge. I'm just curious from your eyes what players would be so much better than Smith and whatever else?

For starters, 6’3” isn’t weight.

He's 210lbs.

Ok so just sign the top heaviest players and we're good to go?

I have so far: Buddy Robinson (236 lbs), Dylan McIlrath (231), Milan Lucic (231), Nick Ritchie (230), Julian Gauthier (227), Jack Johnson (227), Luke Schenn (227). And then of course can't forget Ryan Reaves (225). So that's 3 D and 5 forwards. Good to go with 12M? Not soft and good upgrades?

Between what came out after Dubas left (wanting to make big changes) and what has come out and transpired under Treliving it seems pretty clear that the "keep the core together" plan is coming from above the GM.

Maybe it wasn't Dubas who was refusing to shake up the core after all. July 1st is still a couple days away though. We will see.

If he come like spezza at minimum salary, or 1m and less why not

Personnally I would prefer something like exemple
jvr at 1M
Comtois at 1,5
Puljujarvi at 2,5M
Vs
Smith at 5M

At the same cap hit

Smith is a superior player in every way. Puljujarvi just had double hip surgery and he's out for a long time. JVR and Comtois scored a combined 21 goals... but yeah, they'd be awesome with the Leafs for sure.

Comtois would be an interesting addition based on age and pedigree.. JVR... no thanks. Puljujarvi is injured.

I don't know what to think.

I think Dubas wanting more autonomy on the roster and Shanny not wanting to give that up indicates why Dubas left.

And while Dubas isn’t perfect I think it shows that Shanahan has had a lot stronger influence on roster decisions than we think.
