I don't no. When there are leaks that they are planning on making a pitch, it's a priority.

But maybe they'll do a bunch of good moves over the next 48 hours and sign some good players that fit in well. We'll see.
I mean, not really.

Whoever reported it reported it as 'making a pitch'. That may be the reporters interpretation. The person that let the reporter know many have said "yeah, we'll take a run at Reaves". It could also be that someone in the Leafs brass has let Reaves agent know there is interest and the agent told the reporter that.

Seems you're getting real worked up about the wording of the tweet. I imagine it all comes down to word play.

Oh yeah definitely. Quite clearly.

This sounds like one of those baseball pitcher gambles. Sign a pitcher who just had Tommy John surgery to a very low 2 year deal. High risk high reward.

I'm intrigued too. I just dont get it with JPul. Guy is so talented, just can't seem to put it all together.

Late bloomer?
Be interesting if they created a cycle line Tavares, Knies JPul.

I find it hilarious that with everything happening, one of the headlines right now for the Leafs they plan on making a pitch to Ryan Reaves. That's a priority. Ryan Reaves. 36 year old 5 goal scorer Ryan Reaves. And people are happy with that.

We're heading down a path...
Wait i thought we were getting Lucic? Was that nonsense that was made up?

The rising cap will help with that though
People keep saying this but if you just swallow up the extra cap, does the team get better?

Really jealous of other orgs that locked up their key guys on 8 year deals. Were going to look like suckers when they all have 20 million/year more to play with.

It’s too bad with what happened to Amirov (for lots of reasons obviously)… who knows what he could have amounted to but the Leafs could use another player with his upside.

He could have made moving one of the core 4 a lot easier or packing Robertson in a deal

2024 3rd rounder (which is what Pitts traded). We have 12M in cap space and a need for a top 6 player.

Here to help!

12 million and multiple key spots to fill. That doesn’t include upgrades that need to happen on the blueline. Adding a 5 million dollar luxury piece isn’t a real option.

Yeah... He'd fill one those spots. Exactly. Are you adding players with league min cap hits to fill key holes? I'm confused. I don't see how adding a 25 goal scorer at 5M for 2 more seasons is a luxury piece or completely destroying the cap space we have to fill other holes.

12M to fill 3-4-5 spots isn't really that complicated or hard. But if you think it is, then alright. That doesn't even include just opening even more cap space by making a trade.

Much More easier find someone to replace bunting in top 6 along side core 4 at low cost than find an #2 D who will stabilize leafs D at low cost

Yeah... it was so easy to find. Should be easy to find again.

As far as the moving Robertson part goes I doubt there's any relationship there. The main reason to not move Robby now is he has no value so you might as well keep him.

You can take a shot with a comtois, gurianov of those kind of player in a prove it deal and can work perfectly...

Just try to find a top 4 D just for fun under 3M? What you will get its a Justin Holl. Maybe a Erik Johnson or Ekman-Larsson if youre lucky

He’s simply not the kind of player that compliments the players we have. He doesn’t mix in the top-6, so he’d end up on the 3rd line and we still need to add a top-6 with 5 million less in space to do it. Then we have a butter soft bottom 6 again. He doesn’t fit as anything but a luxury scorer in the bottom 6.

Then we have to upgrade the blueline…..

I completely disagree. But that's fine if you don't think he'd fit into a top 6 role despite being a consistent 25 goal scorer. He'd be a great fit to me. That option is gone since he was given to Pittsburgh anyway.

Who should they add for their available cap space? Who are these big tough not-butter soft players to upgrade with? I want to be optimistic, so I'm hoping you bring forth a nice upfront list of upgrades and targets.

So for me....I get they want grit and I love grit. I just believe you need grit that can actually play hockey.

Instead of Reaves, why are we not looking at Hathaway for the 4th line? Wood on the 3rd line would also be a nice add in terms of speed and physicality while giving you anywhere from 10-20 goals.

We don’t need more soft skill in the top 6. He’s a slightly more skilled and less aggressive version of Kerfoot. That’s fine if you’re desperate for some skill. We aren’t.

We’d be better to add a way less skilled player who is going to bring something we don’t have. Miles Wood is one of the least creative players in the league, but he’s super fast and attacks fearlessly to the net. We don’t anyone who does that… except Nylander two games a year.

I like Hathaway but he's going to be extremely expensive. He's this years Barclay Goodrow. The rangers want to get rid of his contract now just to give you context

Miles Wood according to devils fans is completely washed and is barely even physical anymore. He doesn't fight because of past injury issues. He was a healthy scratch mutiple times in the playoffs

Reaves played all the playoff games and is still one of the toughest mofo's in the league by far. I still agree that he shouldn't be an ideal 1st target to beef up the bottom 6

Reaves is one of the targets *dear god help us and not get him and let oilers sign him*

Hathaway is another one that they are looking at for sure.
