We have shown interest in Reaves? If we are going down thar route, why not just get Lucic then?

Both suck? I guess Reaves can skate a little better? I assume Reaves doesn't mind being depth and signing for league min for a chance at the cup. If the Leafs offer more than that... they deserve every ounce of criticism.

Ideally the Leafs would target more efficient players. Great teams don't employ pure fighters. There's a few good physical players out for grabs... just do that instead.

In theory, they really only need 1 top 6 forward (20+ scorer?) and 1 bottom line forward. They also probably need a good RHD to replace Holl in some capacity. The other positions can be filled internally. Is that good enough overall? Probably not but I don't think it should be too hard to fill 3 spots for ~9M (after re-signing Samsonov).
My problem is, with a weaker class, you’re forced to get into a bidding war for the higher end free agents, like Bert and higher end 3rd liners to improve your team, that’s where mistakes can happen.

We will see, but I’m not feeling too good about some of the moves that will come in FA unless they go big game hunting on the likes of Bertuzzi or Dumba etc.

who is out there that would be a better upgrade on ROR for us that we can sign as a ufa?

Imo ROR gives us a lot of options and also leadership and experience. I would not give him a 5 year deal but 2-4 years depending on the cap hit. He may like Toronto and the opportunities here. We also have a great support team with doctors, trainers, nutritionists, etc. And are a competitive team.

Yes he isnt quick but he is still a solid two way center/winger with some offensive upside. If it was up to me I would also go hard after Toews.

Team lacks character and leadership. Bringing in players like ROR and Toews would go a long way to fixing that. I think they would be hungry to win and given their age leafs may represent their best shot.

Knies. Matthews. Marner
Tavares. ROR. Nylander
Robertson. Toews. Jarnkrok
Holmberg. Kampf. Acciari
Lafferty

Imo ^ is an upgrade from last year both in skill and leadership/work ethic.
I personally like ROR, and think finding a player better then him for the 3C role is not possible, but I don’t think Toronto is in the business to be handing out 3 or 4 year contract to him at 5m, paying any 3rd liner 5m is a steep price.

I also think the writing is on the wall for ROR after the Kampf and Holmberg signing, seems like Kampf was plan B to be the 3rd line Center unless they have plans to use ROR as a top 6 winger.

Sure as hell would have been nice to have been able to add a Reilly Smith for a 3rd round pick right about now.

I'd take Hathaway over both Lucic and Reaves lol

I’d offer 6x6.

Maybe go to 6.5.

64 point pace over his last three seasons (99 pts in 127 games) while largely playing with some pretty mediocre players.

For me it's really the injury concerns. If we were confident he'd stay healthy, I'd have no problem with 6-6.5M. He certainly brings more of a high energy/physical element that we lack among our top forwards, and I think if you give him icetime, PP time, etc with some of our forwards, pretty good chance he puts up 70+ (again, if healthy).

If we could get that locked, then trade Nylander so that we could have Bertuzzi + Nylander's trade return, great.

However, the injury history is a real problem. Would depend on our medical staff thoroughly reviewing his history and being confident it won't be a consistent problem.

Those first 4 points are terrible. Why wait until now to gauge his trade value? Reaves is deemed important to pitch too? What in the hell is going on.

Matthews wants more and more money? "Ill help you guys by not taking 8 years... every 3 years you can keep giving me the highest contract in the league... deal? Cool."

Have mercy... please...

Idea should be to keep Nylander as well.

Nothing with Marner?

We can't negotiate a new contract with him for another full year, and he gets a full NMC this weekend.

I don't think there has been the slightest rumour suggesting we've even considered moving him, and with only a few days until his NMC, I would assume it's like 99% not happening.

Nylander is more based on his contract demands, so if those go sideways, he'll get traded. He only has a 10 team NTC, so even in the summer, we don't need his permission.

Oh, I know. The lack of talk I suppose is the issue.

Comtois and Kostin would be good physical adds to the bottom six that provide some potential upside that can maybe be brought out. Hathaway would make a great 4th liner. If we’re looking to add toughness that can play, they’re decent options.

Might have to improve the defense by trade.
